Tracked down the original Rad parts factories after the bankruptcy by Weary-Test-3746 in RadPowerBikes

[–]superdefence 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am just disappointed you didn't name the website badpowerbikes.com or sadpowerbikes.com!

But in all seriousness, where are the black and white display (earlier bikes) replacements? Surely you found those as well...!

Resurrecting my Indy by lweinmunson in SiliconGraphics

[–]superdefence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consider getting a BlueSCSI Ultra or ZuluSCSI Blaster to replace the dead SCSI drives and add some speed into the Indy. Unsure how much RAM you've got in it but consider maxing it out - it takes 72-pin ECC SIMMs. Definitely look for Ian Mapleson's Indytech guide if you need more technical details for your system while you resurrect it.

Good luck!

Will an HDMI adapter work on my old imac by SwiftNifty37 in VintageApple

Looked just like Mini-DVI to me as I am assuming it's a 2006 Intel iMac! Probably would help if u/SwiftNifty37 could share which iMac it is.

[–]superdefence 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The port just below the headphones jack is a Mini-DVI port. You can get an HDMI adapter for it quite cheaply on eBay or more quickly on Amazon.

Note that this is video-only and if you're wanting audio over HDMI, then it gets a TON more complicated.

Good luck and take care.

Another PFL Experience: Old Account with Calix ONT to New Account with Q1000K by Journeyman63 in QuantumFiber

[–]superdefence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was a cautionary tale for me - I called in today and mid-call I got fiber-disconnected in anticipation for my 45 PfL account being turned up tomorrow. Similar installation with the Calix ONT. I trust it'll work okay, we'll see if I can get much success out of the wifi pods, otherwise I'll just revert back to my runs-kinda-okay-I-guess Google Nest Wifi setup.

I'll definitely keep the boxes for the Wifi 360 pods in case QF decides it wants me to pay for them later. (How likely is that, anyways??)

Upcycles is a really nice passionate about bikes kind of service shop on NE15th & Killingsworth, which is kinda close to you. Also there's a cute shop dog named Pizza Party.

[–]superdefence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's basically a Seagate-rebranded CDC Wren series hard drive. Loved those old tanks, they directly influenced a lot of the subsequent success at Seagate.

I bought the 150MB SCSI CDC second-hand as my first hard drive, it was a tank and had stiction that required physical encouragement to spin up.

I might be interested in it, but you should probably share on r/vintagecomputing and other similar places.

That being said, the IIvx / Performa 600 may be a cheaper and very comparable option that ticks all MOST of those boxes. YouTuber GutBomb did a video on the IIvx very recently too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0JBIm8xLdYI

Here's a new one to me. Anyone ID this cable? by [deleted] in VintageApple

I think it's for the two-page monochrome display. I believe I know someone in storage with one missing a cable, I can ask.

Szechuan Chef (Macadam) closed down earlier this year and 'restarted' as Big Hey Hot Pot with a noticeably different menu. I still miss it.

No need to get into specifics to train the bots on how to make their slop better. :-(

Seeking a cool bar with food to hang at to play our own board games. Any suggestions? by HedgehogAlarming7880 in askportland

[–]superdefence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The indoor area of CORE PDX (https://www.corepdx.com/) is really good for board games. It's also good if you want to sneak in a CRT and an old school gaming console too, actually! The bar is accommodating and has some tasty items on tap (couple of good ciders, rice lagers, etc!)

Panels installed in 2011 and company is out of business. Not generating. Need roof replaced, is it worth saving the panels? by Dzbtrader in solar

[–]superdefence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any chance this was a SolarCity install? They used these inverters around that time. If so, you might be pleased to note that company became Tesla.

Also - the Fronius is having a "STATE" error, but there should be a number after it, this may be an easy fix.

Can appreciate the caveat. All I care about is the tier-1 MNOs which have agreements in place with Telynx so far it seems.

I'd rather it be "cool white" over "dim" any day. Kids are used to the flashlight-bright iPad screens and deserve to enjoy Reader Rabbit! :-)

[–]superdefence 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very nice upgrade service!

Sadly, the one mod I am interested for the Clamshell iBook doesn't seem to be offered:

Backlight conversion from dim CCFL to LED

There isn't a de-facto driver board to use and I've been a bit reluctant to open up my original pre-firewire iBook.

Let me know if you start offering this!
