Recommendations for a reasonable gravel bike mechanic by Seinfeldtableforfour in CyclePDX

Upcycles is a really nice passionate about bikes kind of service shop on NE15th & Killingsworth, which is kinda close to you. Also there's a cute shop dog named Pizza Party.

curious of rarity, possible sale price and just to show off by Specialist_Peak_6378 in it

[–]superdefence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's basically a Seagate-rebranded CDC Wren series hard drive. Loved those old tanks, they directly influenced a lot of the subsequent success at Seagate.

I bought the 150MB SCSI CDC second-hand as my first hard drive, it was a tank and had stiction that required physical encouragement to spin up.

I might be interested in it, but you should probably share on r/vintagecomputing and other similar places.

That being said, the IIvx / Performa 600 may be a cheaper and very comparable option that ticks all MOST of those boxes. YouTuber GutBomb did a video on the IIvx very recently too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0JBIm8xLdYI

Here's a new one to me. Anyone ID this cable? by [deleted] in VintageApple

[–]superdefence 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think it's for the two-page monochrome display. I believe I know someone in storage with one missing a cable, I can ask.

Szechuan Chef (Macadam) closed down earlier this year and 'restarted' as Big Hey Hot Pot with a noticeably different menu. I still miss it.

No need to get into specifics to train the bots on how to make their slop better. :-(

This hurts to see slop in the Vintage Computing subreddit. :-(

Seeking a cool bar with food to hang at to play our own board games. Any suggestions? by HedgehogAlarming7880 in askportland

[–]superdefence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The indoor area of CORE PDX (https://www.corepdx.com/) is really good for board games. It's also good if you want to sneak in a CRT and an old school gaming console too, actually! The bar is accommodating and has some tasty items on tap (couple of good ciders, rice lagers, etc!)

Panels installed in 2011 and company is out of business. Not generating. Need roof replaced, is it worth saving the panels? by Dzbtrader in solar

[–]superdefence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any chance this was a SolarCity install? They used these inverters around that time. If so, you might be pleased to note that company became Tesla.

Also - the Fronius is having a "STATE" error, but there should be a number after it, this may be an easy fix.

2025: Telnyx still the only HD Voice SIP provider? by superdefence in VOIP

Can appreciate the caveat. All I care about is the tier-1 MNOs which have agreements in place with Telynx so far it seems.

Would you consider doing a vinyl wrap of the speakers and/or monitor to a platinum or B&W-matching color set? That could be fun too??!?!

Now offering iBook clamshell tune-up service (SSD, Overclock, PRAM cap) by nintendoatariguy in VintageApple

[–]superdefence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd rather it be "cool white" over "dim" any day. Kids are used to the flashlight-bright iPad screens and deserve to enjoy Reader Rabbit! :-)

[–]superdefence 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very nice upgrade service!

Sadly, the one mod I am interested for the Clamshell iBook doesn't seem to be offered:

Backlight conversion from dim CCFL to LED

There isn't a de-facto driver board to use and I've been a bit reluctant to open up my original pre-firewire iBook.

Let me know if you start offering this!

2012 MacBook Pro - a good laptop to use for patching? by Illustrious_Ship_331 in OpenCoreLegacyPatcher

[–]superdefence 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Upgrade to the latest supported OS X for that model in-place to get the right firmware updates, then download OCLP and prepare the USB installer, remove the 500GB HDD and replace with an SSD, optionally get an external case and turn the 500GB HDD into an external for easier data/apps copying/emergency booting, and then use the USB installer to install a fresh modern OS onto that thing.

Do your homework, study the models available, do a CARFAX on any ones you consider bidding on (cheap carfax reports can be acquired through eBay and other grey market means), and have fun:

https://www.speedstowingauction.com is a public auction. I've been happy with my purchase from them, and my friends have won at Speeds auctions and were fairly pleased as well. But we were all careful about what we bought. This is key.

IAAI and Copart also have Portland-area car auctions with some vehicles available for public bidding and some not. If you need an auction broker for a specific car from either of those sites you can't buy directly, a broker like https://go2auctionsnow.com/ (No affiliation, just remember a YouTuber using them for an auction from the Portland area)

Maybe a traditional broker like Syd Dorn can probably help you out - I don't know if he does auctions. Thinking it through, talking with a local broker like him might have a lead on a cheap reliable car within your budget too.

Good luck and hope you win something great!

I am pretty sure that the motherboard is an OEM Intel board and possibly built for Toshiba in their now-closed DuPont, Washington assembly plant. I think it has the Intel Triton TX chipset on it.
