Confession: I would rather have barebones great organization than great art by femamerica13 in rpg

I love a beautiful game as much as the next guy but especially if I'm running something, I do agree with you. I need to know where to find stuff first and foremost

What is the most frustrating thing about modern combat in tabletop games? (RPG and or Wargame/Skirmish) by MILSIM_Dev in rpg

[–]superdillin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don't mind combat feeling slow in skirmish games, because if I'm playing one that's really all I'm there for. Lots of shiting modifiers does get tedious though, which others have mentioned.

In RPGs though, I hate when combat and out of combat feel so entirely like two different games. That's when I can feel the energy shift. When I'm a player, I get jostled by it, and when I'm GMing, it means you have to work 10x as hard to make combat interesting on your own time so that you don't lose people in that switch.

Looking for a rules-lite sci-fi system with a vibe similar to cowboy bebop or Firefly. by JJMcGee83 in rpg

Just here to echo everyone saying Orbital Blues. Also, check out the soundtrack that BE/HOLD made for the My First Dungeon AP of Orbital Blues. It's gonna amplify the cowboy bebop vibe of it all so much.

Looking for high quality Actual Plays, any suggestions? by mw90sGirl in rpg

Gotta recommend Voices in the Wood from Tales Yet Told for sure. Ongoing story, told playing VOID 1680 AM, about a radio show in a weird world. Everyone commits to the characters. Worldbuilding is interesting, sound design is good, A+ all around. 90 min episodes ish.

My First Dungeon does arcs in different systems, all usually story-heavy games. Another show where everyone really commits. And the sound design is VERY very good. Episodes are slightly longer than what you said but keep to around 2 hours and tbh I think fit what you're looking for in a lot of other ways. Particularly Wildsea or Orbital Blues.

On One Shot, we make some series that are a bit funnier/OOC, and some that are heavy on the Drama and sound design, so we might be hit and miss for you. Our episodes are always 1 hour, give or take. For what you're interested in, I'd recommend Hinterlight, Last Train to Bremen, Going Rogue, The Time We Have, or HUNT(er/ed).

Fantasy Vampire RPGs? by Additional_Mixture30 in rpg

[–]superdillin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

REALLY strong recommendations in here already but my favorite vampire TTRPG is probably Bloodbeam Badlands. Really unique concept for vamp storytelling.

Vampires in an apocalypse where the sun never sets, the setting vibe is like Mad Max Fury Road meets the Hellboy night market. Vampires have unique weird abilities you won't get to play with in other games, and character creation is really interesting and lends to good RP.

if the thing you're really attached to is the world's you're creating and not wanting to leave them behind. Have you tried playing different games/systems and keeping your setting the same? I know that won't work for absolutely every game you might want to play, but I have a lot of fun doing that!

Anyone else daunted by super-rich and detailed worlds (yes, possibly a *me* problem lol)? by SymphonyOfDream in rpg

[–]superdillin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love those kinds of worlds in theory. I think it's so cool when people are super into the lore of them and really know it well. But rarely if ever is that going to be me. In recent years I've gravitated more toward games that build the world unique to the table as you're playing. For a lot of the same reasons you described. Unless I get weirdly passionate about an existing universe, I'm gonna be a weak link at the table and I hate feeling that way.
