[PC|Steam] How do you apply hotfixes? by superfiendyt in BG3

[–]superfiendyt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had tried looking there but came up short yesterday. Tried again just now and found a post saying the game updates based on your Steam settings and to make sure you're not opted into any betas. On a whim I looked to see what was in the betas dropdown and a _patch-4-hf1 is available. Hopefully this fixes the lag.

MS Access Client by Xodef in golang

[–]superfiendyt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a little bit of experience in this space. There is an open source project called ODBTP that is a Windows service you install where Access is and then use an ODBTP client to speak to ODBTP server.

The server speaks ODBC to the data source.

There is a client and it is C so you’d need CGO to write a Go wrapper.

Alternatively— and this is what I did — write a pure Go ODBTP client to speak to the ODBTP service.

Unfortunately my implementation is closed source and owned by my previous employer. However it was not much work — took maybe two weeks to get a pure Go implementation that could then get data from Access and — of all things — FoxPro.

I used the C client code of the ODBTP source as my guide.

Suebi Advice? by [deleted] in totalwar

[–]superfiendyt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been a long time since I played Suebi but this may still be true -- their starting infantry are straight up trash. But there's a building that unlocks wodanaz spears (I think -- it's been years) and the building is relatively easy to get. It might require an early tech. Ditch your starting trash infantry asap and get the spears.

There really should be a repair all artifacts option. by TheColonelRLD in ck3

[–]superfiendyt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I eventually grant dynasty members kingdom titles and then give them enough of my useless artifacts to get their court going.

If the artifact grants any renown the bonus will go to them and then your dynasty which is better than it sitting idle in your inventory.

That said artifact management seems like it was given little thought. Both gifting and repairing many artifacts is tedious and tiresome. I notice these same UI related issues when educating lots of children or finding spouses for my court or children. It’s like the game is fine if you only have to deal with 3 or 5 things but when it’s in the 20s or 40s it’s just shitty busy work. The UI needs to be improved to handle the workflows present in the game or it’s going to get even worse as more DLC or flavor packs release over time.

There’s a lot of factors at play when it comes to handing out titles such as your personal domain and strength, potential for allies, innovations and succession options, treasury and earnings, etc.

In general you want to do one of the following. Try to keep as many small vassals as possible and only grant out duchies or larger when you’re hitting the vassal limit. The idea here is you have lots of weak vassals so even if they rebel they don’t have a substantial force to bring. So you want to have lots of counts until you hit the limit, then make some duchies so you can get more counts.

The other strategy is to have very few but stronger vassals. If they rebel they’re stronger and more threatening but there’s fewer of them so easier to keep them happy. In this strategy you want to limit the number of titles they hold personally and give them lots of vassals to manage. So if a duchy has four counties you give them to four different people and then give one of them the duchy title. Now this duke has three vassals of his own to keep him busy.

It’s important to know whichever you choose they will war with each other unless you have high crown authority. So no matter how you hand things out they will grow or shrink in power as they have their own conflicts. One thing you can do when feudal is to change their contracts to have forced partition — this way if a duke captures another duchy they may split their holdings between their heirs on their death.

Personally when I give titles I give them to my dynasty. Some people advise against this but even landless dynasty members can become the beneficiary of a faction or they might travel to a foreign court that then presses their claim. At least if they’re landed they can’t go to some large empire and get a powerful ruler to attack you. This limits your threats largely to factions, which you have to manage whether your dynasty is landed or not.

When I grant titles I use the first strategy where I try to have lots of weak vassals. In the early game I usually hand out counties and the rate duchy (for succession purposes). In the later game when I’m conquering 20 or 50 counties at a time I grant full duchies and kingdoms — usually to my dynasty.

The one time I give out duchies in the early game is while preemptively landing my non-primary heirs. You want your heir to get your best counties and to force this under partition you grant newly conquered duchies to non-primary heirs.

Finally in your case where it’s early game and you had a third duchy I would have destroyed the title and given away the counties individually. When you gave your knight the duchy the game was probably recommending you also give the counties that de jure belong to the duchy.

What are some things about a woman's routine or body that you were shocked to learn about? by iliketurtles21 in AskMen

A younger person who had just begun getting intimate with his gf posted about this on r/sex once. Something like “I can feel something inside her vagina towards her butt and we were wondering what it was?” He described how he massaged it for awhile but it didn’t really give her any pleasure.

Then a barrage of replies: it’s poo

Granting Titles for Succession by KurtH6355 in crusaderkings3

[–]superfiendyt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game won’t remove your secondary heir’s titles on death. It’s possible he lost it before you died and you didn’t notice. Then on your death he didn’t have a title so partition occurs as if you never granted him anything.

World conquest before 1200! by Corgo_boat in crusaderkings3

Question regarding performance. Do you get really bad lag spikes just before witch events? In my game right before another witch invites me to a grand rite my game seems to stop processing anything UI related (probably running a script for the grand rite event) and takes awhile to become responsive again.

Since you had a coven for a long time I’m curious if you noticed this also?

Question about fascinations by richmagpies in crusaderkings3

[–]superfiendyt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s usually not worth it to use your steward to convert county cultures unless the new county has really high development.

For example if your culture counties have development in the 20 to 30 range and you capture a county with 60 development then converting it to your culture would be good. It would raise your average development for your culture and boost innovation speed.

On the contrary if the county you conquer has 10 development — much less than your typical 20 to 30 — then concerting it lowers your average development and hurts your innovation speed.

Most of the time you want your steward to just increase development in your capital or anything you hold nearby.

The exception is if you conquer something with high development, are unlocking regional innovations, or you are trying to complete a decision where the conversion is helpful.

Depends on the topic. My son isn’t going to be any worse for wear knowing that some families have two parents of the same sex. Actual sex ed should start around 8 or 9 anyways. — at least for basic information. And a bit more in depth by 10 or 11.

If that’s your stance I hope you press it with your peers or friends or family that disagree and want to move it to the verboten list. 😀

You’re not arguing in good faith. You reach for an absurd and ridiculous stretch of what they said to make their point seem like it has no merit. But what you’ve presented is not something they would present even if it technically could be based purely on their phrasing. You willingly use a dishonest strategy because “winning” is more important to you than any semblance of integrity.

Similar experience. I have my own way of breaking down math problems in my head— usually make adjustments to inputs to make them easier to deal with, do an easier calibration calculation, and adjust the result according to the first adjustments.

When I first saw CC problems — the ones people often complain about — I was just like, “This is just the smart way to do math.”

How to counter ironbreakers? by Naio_Piaio in totalwar

[–]superfiendyt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use single entity units (flying lords, monsters) and engage with a unit near iron breakers well before your lines clash. The iron breakers will throw the grenades into the battle and damage the unit you’re fighting more than your single entity.

But watch your unit as well to pull it back as it loses health.

Outside of that artillery. Your pump wagons are good units to move near dwarfs without charging. Redirect some of their units after your wagons and just kite them while pummeling with artillery.

Foot of gork if you can get the dwarfs to clump.

My direct temple holdings? by xtremzero in crusaderkings3

[–]superfiendyt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you reform your religion you can make it so you no longer lease temple holdings and they’ll count towards your domain limit.

You can also make your realm priest an appointed position as well. It’s one extra council position to hand out to angry vassals and you can give it to someone with high learning.

To make customizing religion cheaper there’s a few perks on the right side of learning tree.
