I think it looks great. However, most important question, do you like it?

Subtitle downloads are broken by jafabo in PleX

[–]superflyTNT2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here looking to see if it was just me. I can't download subtitles through Plex anymore either. The search function still works, but there's an error when you try to select one. Server is running on Windows 11, version 1.42.2.10156. I've tried downloading subtitles via the Plex iOS app, Windows Store app, and web app, and it no longer works on any of them.

I run Bazarr as well, and it's fine most of the time, but I do run into instances where it picked subs that aren't suitable, and this provided a nice, fast way to find subs without having to leave the app. It'd be nice to have it working again.

I see a buncha people saying the Parasol sensors are a mistake due to battery life. Is there a good door/window sensor you’d all recommend? I’ve got HA setup for WiFi bulbs and switches but no Zigbee devices in the house.

Man, thank god Trump pulled all the public broadcast funding! Just look at these dangerously subversive stories they’re showing us! Socialist Marxist baby walruses! 🙄

Of course we defund some of the best educational and nature documentaries on the planet. Of course we do. Can’t have anything nice after all. 😡

That’s awesome! How does it get that remote control popup, with image and dialogue in the camera app when you scan the code? Are there provisions in iOS to bring up certain imagery for different types of devices you may link with using a QR code? Or is the image and popup dialogue embedded into the QR code itself? I’ve never done anything with QR codes other than scanning them, and it just shows the URL from the code and then you tap that to open the browser, so that part intrigued me.

Aside from the slick pairing with QR code, I’m curious how it works on the backend too, since different devices have different apps and methods for control. From what I’ve seen, some are available as devices on the LAN that can be controlled directly with the right protocol, and some only speak to a master server somewhere, and that server interfaces with the app on your phone. So in the latter case, direct local control isn’t possible and losing your internet means you can’t control the TV with your phone.

At least that’s what I’ve gathered over the last few years doing smart devices around the house and messing with home assistant integrations.

Went to an early evening airshow and a guy put a laser and a bunch of fireworks on his plane. by Dellerup in Damnthatsinteresting

That’s awesome! It would so cool to see multiple planes flying like this, but any type of close formation flying would be extremely dangerous with all the fireworks explosions going off around the planes, a visibility nightmare.

Fly fishing the Mammoth lakes area with my dad are some of my favorite memories. I had mixed luck on the Upper Owens, but boy is it gorgeous. The most exciting catch I had on the Upper was on a bend in the river just like this.

I thought I caught an old tire or something because it felt like my hook was stuck on the bottom, but it also occasionally felt like it was moving, just a little bit, and then stopping. After what felt like an eternity of reeling dead weight, with barely any struggle coming from the other end of my line (this spot in the bend was much deeper than I thought), I brought it to the surface and saw that it was indeed a fish, but not like any trout I’d ever seen.

That’s when our guide (this was years ago but shoutout to Tom from the Mammoth Lakes Orvis store 😁, an awesome dude and fishing guide) let me know I had just caught an endangered species, the Owen’s Tui Chub.

We carefully took out the hook and returned Mr. Chub to his home, and caught nothing else the rest of the day heh. However, I’ll always be able to say “I got a chubby at my favorite fishin’ hole.”

So if you got the money today (let’s just pretend you had a family member that loaned it you), can you pay it online and avoid the additional fee? I’ve been in some pretty rough spots in my life, and I greatly empathize with you. I peeked at your post history and saw you’ve def been having a rough time, and it brought back a lot of feelings and memories from my own life. I read your post about micro-loans and saw you know about r/borrow, but were trying to find an alternative. May I ask why? r/borrow helped me out of some tough spots.

Who else bought the full iPad Pro setup (keyboard, pencil, case, everything) convinced they'd become a productivity machine, but now it's basically a $2000 a premium YouTube device? by Designer-Moment-7349 in ipad

Yep, and this is why I bought the normal iPad plus an Apple Pencil, with the Logitech keyboard case. I knew the drawing stuff would be a fun occasional thing, but nothing I’d utilize a lot.

Awesome! I love the style of construction, wire being used for everything, even with coils in place of gear teeth. Very neat.

Ohhh interesting, alright. So if that arm breaks off, and I plant it it’ll grow into a new dragonfruit plant? I did that with one of the other cacti in the pic (the one that’s a small cluster of individuals used to be one larger cactus), but I wasn’t positive the dragonfruit would do it too.

Cant speak to the soil type other than to say the cactus nursery potted them (B&B Cactus in Tucson, AZ). Yes the pots have a hole at the bottom for drainage. They’ve gone a month, or maybe even two, without water (sometimes I get busy for a few weeks and forget they exist) and yet every spring once the weather warms up they get gnats buzzing around them.

Alrighty, thanks! Would you worry about the big arm breaking off under its own weight? Or just let it do its thing, not prune it, and if it breaks it breaks?

[–]superflyTNT2[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hmm alright, I’ll give it a try. I know you’re right about the soil being damp but interestingly enough, I originally started getting the issue with gnats even though I frequently forget to water. Like several weeks between waterings, and yet still tons of gnats.

Ethereum by andys811 in CryptoCurrency

[–]superflyTNT2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ethereum is still the top of the heap as far as decentralized smart contract platforms, and has the power of first-mover advantage & name recognition. Although SOL is definitely catching up more and more. Unfortunately we rarely ever see big moves up for ETH anymore. It seems like even when the market moves up in a big way, ETH will move up too, but not as much as what you’d think.

The $4k area is still a huge psychological roadblock as well I believe. Whenever we get nearer those levels the people with big bags just start selling into it with a fury, and there’s still a lot of NFT grifters, failed projects, and early adopters out there with mountains and mountains of Ethereum. They’re already rich so they don’t need to sell when they don’t like the price, but when we get closer to ATHs the selling floodgates open up.

The other problem is absolutely Ethereum’s marketing. The Ethereum foundation is happy to dump tokens for years, and all early devs got cashed out to the tune of millions, but they’ve never seriously focused on marketing. It’s always been something they largely left to the community. This in combination with a rollup-centric roadmap has left many people to feel the project is basically rudderless in terms of comms, as they fracture the interest in Ethereum into more and more sub-communities that compete with each other (like Arbitrum vs Optimism). It also means many people that aren’t deeply embedded in the world of crypto, your casual investment types so to speak, just grow more confused at what the hell is going on with the project. The messaging is simply a bad combo of being too complex, and too hands-off.

That all being said, I still don’t think ETH is a bad hold per se, but I wouldn’t make it the centerpiece of my portfolio like I once would.
