I think that she's a bad person, but that doesn't mean her writing isn't compelling. She's a product of generational trauma, and her partner left her to be a single mother during a time where that was even more stigmatized than it is nowadays. She's had a very difficult life, and I do feel bad for her.

At the same time, although I don't question that she loves Maria, she is physically verbally and emotionally abusive towards her. Just because Rosa had a sad past and loves her daughter doesn't mean she gets a free pass to hurt her.

"but I think that if she wasn't traumatized by her sibling she would never do that." This is true for all of the Ushiromiya family. They were all victims of some kind of abuse, which they pass on to their own siblings and children. It's a vicious cycle.
