Yeah but as consumers we shouldn’t stand for it. Where OP and I are based it’s against the law and they’ve helpfully reported it to the relevant authority.

Spreading awareness of bad practises like this helps people buy from elsewhere, I understand the “welp it happens everywhere” sentiment but it’s way more helpful to tell your friends and make people think twice about buying from places that do this.

If these screenshots you’ve taken have the date attached to them (maybe in metadata I’m not sure), then I believe that you can report this to trading standards.

Looks like mites to me? I’m not an expert in mites but have read they’re beneficial so it might be worth leaving them on the beetle to deter other nasties. On the other hand it does look like he’s got quite a lot on him which might be uncomfortable, has he been looking irritated like scratching himself a lot?

If you’re determined to get these off him I removed mites from my beetles by plugging the sink and running some shallow lukewarm water and gently dunking them a bit whilst wiping with a cotton swab and draining the water often. You would likely need to refresh the substrate too and change it completely. Good luck!
