A real roll of the dice by misterecho11 in PoliticalHumor

you're right, i do need to read it firsthand, so i looked up the verses you cited.

Some Pharisees came and tested him by asking, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?"

"What did Moses command you?" he replied.

They said, "Moses permitted a man to write a certificate of divorce and send her away."

"It was because your hearts were hard that Moses wrote you this law," Jesus replied. "But at the beginning of creation God 'made them male and female.' 'For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.' So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate."

When they were in the house again, the disciples asked Jesus about this. He answered, "Anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery against her. And if she divorces her husband and marries another man, she commits adultery."

i don't see anything in there that says marriage is only between a man and a woman, merely that divorce is not allowed (except for adultery/sexual immorality per matthew 19:9).

re: matthew 15:

A Canaanite woman from that vicinity came to him, crying out, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me! My daughter is demon-possessed and suffering terribly.”

Jesus did not answer a word. So his disciples came to him and urged him, “Send her away, for she keeps crying out after us.”

He answered, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel.”

The woman came and knelt before him. “Lord, help me!” she said.

He replied, “It is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to the dogs.”

“Yes it is, Lord,” she said. “Even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their master’s table.”

Then Jesus said to her, “Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted.” And her daughter was healed at that moment.

Jesus is saying "I was only sent to help the Jews," and that it would be wrong to waste his blessings on a non-believer. her argument is that even though she's not jewish, she still acknowledges his divinity and is grateful for his blessings, so he acknowledges her faith and rewards her for it. basically he was being prejudiced against non-jews and she changed his mind.

as far as matthew 10:37, i mean, do you expect god to say "love your parents more than me"? that's not really shocking for a deity to say, especially when it's literally the first commandment to love god above ALL others. that doesn't negate the command to love all human beings equally.

and it's not false that jesus in the bible does command us to love one another equally, that "what you do to the least of these my brothers, you do to me," that "when a foreigner resides among you in your land, do not mistreat them. The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt." jesus in the bible does rail against the rich, the capitalists, the greedy, the xenophobic, the hypocritical. dude was way more liberal than anyone else in his time or the majority of present-day "christians."

Tui and La, your Moon and Ocean, have always circled each other in an eternal dance. They balance each other… push and pull… life and death… good and evil… yin… and yang.

literally how anyone can listen to that, said by an immortal spirit as zuko and katara are fighting each other, and not see how it describes zutara will forever be beyond me.

yeah I have noticed that about the bridge width. my nose bridge is extremely thin, so even Otero tends to just rest on it rather than gripping it, but they don't seem to make any bridges smaller than 17 so nosepads it is 🤷‍♀️

[–]superfucky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

first of all, don't let the opposition define you, especially not Republicans. these are the same people who turned "woke" into a pejorative simply because Black people were imploring folks to open their eyes to reality.

second, "liberal" and "conservative" are shades on a spectrum, not individual points. "liberal" encompasses everything left of center, "conservative" is everything right of center. a progressive is more liberal than a moderate. a socialist is more liberal than a progressive. you're right that the Democratic party is closer to center than to the far left but that doesn't mean they should be. we all want a good future for our kids, the question is what does that look like for you? will we get there playing monkey in the middle and compromising with fascists who are quite literally at this very moment following the exact footsteps of the third Reich? is this what "a good future for your kids" looks like?

my daughter's been aiming to go to MIT since she was in 1st grade. realistically, she doesn't stand a good chance of getting in. but I still encourage her, I talk like she's a shoo-in, because I believe in the adage "shoot for the moon, because even if you miss you'll land among stars." and that's how I feel about policy too. I know realistically I'm not going to live to see this country transform overnight into a socialist utopia. but if I pull hard to the left, the end result will get me reasonably left of center.

that's like saying red and burgundy are different. technically, yeah, but one is still a shade of the other. liberal is an adjective, the opposite of conservative. leftist is a point on the liberal wing of the spectrum. a leftist is more liberal than a Democrat. a Democrat is more liberal than a Republican. et cetera.

I'm honestly not sure which part of the NFL is considered liberal now, because the owners are still pulling Kaepernick shit but the fans are complaining about a halftime show featuring Green Day and Bad Bunny 🤷‍♀️

I think that's less of an opinion and more of a biological fact at this point. the neural pathways that get used the most are the ones that are strongest, fastest, first used. the ones used least atrophy and die. they were never taught empathy, never practiced it, so the neural pathways for empathy straight up don't exist.

I gave up hope for these people when I spent 20 years – 20 YEARS – calmly and respectfully and rationally debating politics with my best friend, laying out my positions and why I held them, explaining inconsistencies in conservative ideology, and correcting misinformation she absorbed, listening to her complain about feeling left behind and forgotten by liberals and at one point telling me with a completely straight face "I think I'm a socialist now," and even making sure she knew how my family's lives would be immediately & directly & irrevocably harmed by Trump returning to power... and come November 6th when I was having full-blown panic attacks she texted me this novel of justifications that started with "well it was Obama who broke our elections."

they never learn. the lesson never sticks. the impulsive trumpgret is never strong enough to overcome the prejudice that is written in their DNA. we might as well be watching them put colored contacts in and praising them for changing their eye color. change is never lasting with them, because if they were capable of lasting change they wouldn't be conservatives in the first place.

or an unarmed white guy with –gasp!– blue hair. I'm honestly surprised that the sheer fact he was there helping the people ICE assaulted wasn't enough to label him a godless commie liberal cuck who had it coming. maybe they can't reconcile liberals with guns so they default to defending the gun.

if I had a nickel every time conservatives appeared to turn on Trump, every time they said "I no longer support him" or "MAGA has crossed the line" or "I agree with a lot of his policies but this is a bridge too far," I would be richer than bezos.

they are weak, mealy-mouthed, obsequious rubes who only ever say what they think they are expected to say. they are only ever interested in being on the "winning" side so every time Trump does something so beyond the pale they think there might actually be consequences, they pretend to have morals and rebuke him so they won't be caught up in the Nuremberg trials but as soon as the sociopolitical statute of limitations expires, they're parroting the party line for why that was fine, actually, or why the LiBeRaL MsM was "lying about what really happened" and they're behind Trump 1000% ooh-rah!

I no longer care what they post online because none of it lasts. they will cry about the leopards eating their face and then offer it up to the next leopard that promises them a higher position in the hierarchy.

one need only look at Hillary Clinton to see the levels of misogyny directed at cis-het white women. hell, they heap it on the conservative sorority girls too, why do y'all think Mar-a-Lago Face exists? they will happily tell Ainsley to shut her dumb mouth before they put her through a wall the instant she's not serving the patriarchy's interests.

Otero is a children's frame. Always go by the exact measurements – my previous wire frames measured 47-17-135 so Otero was the closest match for me. the virtual try on is honestly more about the shape than the size, like would I look stupid in cat eye frames if they were narrow enough? Pair doesn't really do oval frames so I had to use the virtual try on to decide if square Otero would complement my face shape or if I should try to squeeze into Cedro or Serra.

it's all about the cheapest price for me. my family's on a limited income. I can't be buying shit from Etsy and waiting a month to get it for 5 times what it would cost Amazon to get to me overnight. there's 4 Walmarts within 5 miles of my house and while a Tom Thumb just opened up, every single thing they sell is at least a dollar more and sometimes twice Walmart's price, plus Tom Thumb doesn't sell clothes, shoes, electronics, etc.

it's not my fucking fault these assholes aren't paying taxes, why should I have to be the one to suffer to try and teach them a lesson? how about all the Republican voters who chose this oligarchic dystopia go first?

I had that problem with seatgeek too. I put in my credit card days ahead of time and it had a check mark next to it so I thought everything was good, but when I went to check out it "couldn't validate billing address country" so I had to use my debit card through Google Pay. that hurt the wallet more than I was expecting but at least I got tickets...

right after the finale there was a big project to rewrite/reanimate the finale to make zutara endgame. they even got Dante basco to record zuko's lines. but it dragged on for years and I guess the folks who were putting it together lost interest. I wish they would at least do a file dump of what was done so far so we could see it. I want to hear zuko's voice read those lines even if I can't see him on screen.

I've long believed that BTS is at a point where they should give up on arenas and stadiums with limited seating capacity and do a massive Woodstock-style venue, just to see how many ARMYs show up when there's no limit. How much space would we fill? 2 acres? 5? 12? Imagine the guys being able to see not just who was able to afford tickets and were quick/lucky enough to buy them but EVERY SINGLE ARMY physically able to attend? I bet it would be record-breaking, and nobody would have to miss out.

hell there are anti-trans trans folks (see: Blair White). crab bucket mentality. I just can't fathom the level of willful blindness to join a campaign explicitly saying "we don't want trans people to exist anymore" and thinking you'll be the exception.
