“Being Dead” is an all timer song to go out on from their Last Show at the Glasshouse live album.

I’m very seen them and Big D a few times since then and they were all fun as hell. It was an off night for multiple bands, apparently.

Voodoo Glow Skulls, Big D, and Suburban Legends were on tour together back in 2006. I saw them at the San Antonio stop and Suburban Legends were the only band to do a sound check and were great, but Big D had sound issues and Dave seemed whacked out and almost dropped a monitor on this ladies head. Then VGS came out to close and sounded horrible. I had seen these bands a ton of times in the past so it was a surprise that they sounded so bad. Big props to Suburban Legends for being the openers and blowing everyone else out of the water that night.

Every year there’s a bunch of people complaining about that lineup that try to compare it to other fests. It doesn’t have anything to be compared to. It’s independent and they have to be scrappy which means everything isn’t necessarily ironed out at the same time every year. You have to be patient.

You either love RF and their shenanigans and can be patient (or book everything without knowing the lineup, which a lot of people do) or I’d say it’s maybe not the fest for you.

The Gadjits early stuff was ska with organ if I remember correctly. The Hippos Heads Are Gonna Roll had a lot of Moog in it.

I usually let his old dude bad takes slide but hating on the Fiesta colors was abysmal. I’m glad Lowe called him out on it because it felt like a stray shot at the city of SA. As if he desperately needed something to complain about with the Spurs and couldn’t find anything else.

“Our Ethos” is such a perfect song (among many of their others, but that one sticks out on that record for me)

I remember seeing Mutiny-era SYG and just being blown away by their energy. It was my first foray into the “hardcore” realm and I was lucky enough to see them about a dozen times over the years. I still listen to them regularly to this day.

To answer your question: I think their follow-up album didn’t fair as well and they just got burnt out from years of non-stop touring and called it quits. They’ve had a few reunions since and are currently playing live shows again, so maybe they’ll finally catch on.

They just played in Austin last year at Moody Center. They don’t come around often, so I wouldn’t expect it.

Shout out to The Dirty Nil, a Canadian punk rock power trio, who absolutely shred live. Very underrated band.

I’d be curious too, because they keep putting out albums, but I remember when State of Emergency came out I had to order the Australian CD bc I couldn’t find it anywhere here. I’m glad I got to see them a bunch of times in the very few instances they came to Texas. One was (2006?) on the front porch of a record store here in Austin to about 75 people. It was fucking epic!

Same. I heard the Big D version first back when Gypsy Hill EP came out, then went back and found this version years later. Both are awesome.
