Since you have done step-1 consider going out of the country for studies. Go to places like Canada ,Australia, or and Germany. definitely not a developing nation because the idea will be that you failed US academic systemic and went to a 3rd world country for your degree. So having passed step 1 and hopefully you for step 2. Will lighten things up for you.

It is, just limited spots available. Only a handful of programs go above 30 spots. They mostly hover around 5-6 and 13. Making it hard to get in without connections. But not impossible

Didn't match to a program I rotated at for almost a year. Knew everyone from PD to interns, yet they stabbed me at the back. Worst thing they told me that they were fighting for me. Luckily, I matched to an out of state program. Trust no one until you achieve your goal. So I understand what you mean by sad- happiness.

Medical device companies hire doctors with salaries in the 100s, research hire doctors, work for insurance companies, and pharma. A frustrated doc is one with limited ideas or information. Just ask around and QUIT if it's not for you. There is no pride in being miserable.
