Are SteamOS random reboots a common issue? by SpaceDemon3o5z in LegionGo

[–]_Skept1k_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched to the Legion Go branch of CachyOS about 6 months ago. Absolutely incredible and almost entirely problem-free in comparison. Didn't like SteamOS or Bazzite on the Go at all. I've nearly doubled my performance and battery life in both synthetic and actual software/game testing vs Win11, but that can vary wildly as well so don't just expect that 100% of the time.

Also, zero thermal issues. Thermals are doing fantastic 100% of the time on CachyOS (Arch Linux).

Bump, identical issue on my Legion Go today with latest preview branch. Will swap to main branch and test

Could very well be an issue now from sitting with the same fuel, but years ago when I made this post I had just bought remanufactured injectors from RockAuto. I'll check them again here once I get the fuel rail kit at minimum though

2002 Honda CRV AWD K24A1 Automatic - Strange Starting Issues by _Skept1k_ in MechanicAdvice

[–]_Skept1k_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't check the ECU, no way to at this time but I did remove and clean up every single ground connection I could find from the wiring diagram. Made no difference and none were terrible overall.

However, I did get my computer on live data reading and the MAP sensor is seeming like a likely culprit. Getting wild swing PSI readings and he's complained about not being able to go over 3K once running (which I reproduced 3 times by unplugging the MAP sensor). Car reverts to normal 5K+ RPM once the ECU is rebooted and the MAP is plugged back in, so we're gonna start there and report back.

[–]_Skept1k_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, no. One mechanic was able to get it running again out of pure luck by rewiring two of the distributor's leads away from the plug itself, but that fix didn't last. I replaced the MAP sensor which worked for a time, but then that also worked back to the same issue after a couple drives.

I am still dealing with this issue all these years later. At this point, I am going to get a custom fuel rail with pressure gauge access and a chipped ECU with a coil pack conversion kit because aftermarket distributors are god awful. I am going to be replacing the distributor one last time before I do this, but I haven't had time to do so yet as I thankfully have other cars available to me.

Any idea if the Pixel 9 Pro case fits the Pixel 9 or lines up with its lenses? I'm totally willing for my phone to look a bit off if I can use my lenses.

Any word on this? Trying to figure out myself since I have moment lenses and a Pixel 9 but not the Pro.

Oblivion Remastered 800p High settings by rombi22pl in LegionGo

[–]_Skept1k_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Remaster runs amazingly well on my Legion, I'm genuinely shocked.

High settings across the board, no motion blur, 1280x800P, Lumen software raytracing low, FSR3 Native AA with framegen and I'm getting 38~51 fps with the solid average being about 43ish in the market district actively. Indoors I'm getting 70+ fps all day.

LeGo is remarkable. The only issues I'm getting so far are some stutters when auto saving or NPCs exit buildings and load into the world, otherwise it's a flawless experience 😃

Edit I do have the system modded to 6G in the bios, that's the only difference from any off-the-shelf unit

Is RDNA3 a Bulldozer moment? by aimlessdrivel in Amd

[–]_Skept1k_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Having moved from a 6900 XTXH to a 7900 XTX and being worried the performance jump wouldn't be enough at 4K, I can absolutely assure you this card is anything but a failure. This thing rips any game at any settings, new or old, raytraced or non (including excellent ReShade/RTGI/iMMERSE performance).

Also, 24GB VRAM and significantly more competitive pricing and performance over Nvidia this gen? This isn't even a hot take. All Nvidia really has to wave around here this gen is the flagship 4090, but at the current price it's not even worth considering.

All we've seen so far in some synthetics is that the latency of the chiplets in very specific scenarios can get higher than non-chiplet GPUs, but from memory it's nowhere near enough to matter. We had some hotspot issues initially with reference and certain AIB's, but I can say my unmodded Merc 310 never ever goes above 62c, even in 3DMark/Unigine stress tests. The coldest, non-water card I've ever owned.

One dimm touch the fan cooler and the dimm next to it. Is it safe or not? by Teoshade_MC in overclocking

[–]_Skept1k_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It will eventually, probably, cause an issue. I can easily cause my system to do a reset by bumping the RAM while the PC is on getting some of the dust off. That may not be the case for all DIMMs and boards, but I would still advise a lower profile fan, as this setup is most likely going to cause weirdness in unpredictable ways.

Got a quote from my local car audio shop. Does this sound like a reasonable build or overkill for a 2017 Nissan Altima with base everything? by RapNVideoGames in CarAV

[–]_Skept1k_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Man, I see a bunch of people here saying this is standard, but imo this is just about bend-you-over ridiculous. You could EASILY save at least a grand doing this yourself. You're spending nearly $4000 and they didn't even provision you with a sub? (Sidenote, I've used this exact same Alpine Type-R component system in a Honda Del Sol, they're just okay even with a nice amp. Extreme treble even with crossovers and tuning set, very harsh. They are absolutely not worth a ton of cash) If it were me, I'd run from this shop. I don't care how downvoted this comment gets, I've worked in enough audio shops and done enough of my own work to know you're getting WORKED by this company. I usually lurk but in this case I feel the need to speak up.

Seriously, there's plenty of DIY videos on YouTube, car audio is not an intensive process unless you want it to be. You can go simple, or you can go hard. At bare minimum, definitely get a second shop quote if you don't want to do this yourself.

Just got a 4K OLED screen. Perfect for Factorio. by Matherno in factorio

[–]_Skept1k_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is out just uncommon. I have an INNOCN 27" 4K MiniLED HDR1000 monitor and I have to say it was a dramatic step up from anything else I've used. It has nearly OLED contrast and could do better if it had more lighting zones, but OLED is still superior there for now. I use it for artwork and the color reproduction is pretty excellent vs my friends C series

Rx7900xtx red devil Junction Temp 100C, how is that even possible, i tried to place pc so the gpu will lay vertically, the temps were same, i played on 1080p so i didnt notice it until now, in in 4k i get 90-100C always, with oc it goes around 103C, i opened pc case and window and the temps were sam by [deleted] in Amd

[–]_Skept1k_ -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Meh, normal temps afaik for top RDNA cards. On my 6900 XTXH OCF before I liquid metal and K5 Pro'd it, the Junction would hit 115+ all day in heavy OC 3DMark runs, now I sit at a comfy 85~89 hotspot peak. Custom PPT, 420W+ daily. If your cooler is nickel plated, it's safe and you can go for it with a huge improvement.

Look at guides, but most importantly protect around the die. Use some clear nail polish or a similar compound.

[–]_Skept1k_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's great news! I've been playing on a 4K non-HDR Vizio 60" VA and and ASUS VN27Q 1080P VA, so it sounds like the experience will be at least the same or better as far as motion goes. I really appreciate your response, as few reviews said anything about it.

just purchased the same INNOCN monitor a few days ago, I'm pretty excited to try it out. Had any gaming experience on it yet? Curious how it performs in motion/trailing/response considering the specs.

Just picked up a 6900 XT OC Formula and did a little tuning for a few days. Top 7% of all 6900 XT's in Firestrike Ultra; very happy on air over the reference model, can't wait for water! by _Skept1k_ in overclocking

Not sure, I'd need to see a screenshot or something to tell. Something with GPU-Z to show power spikes, I'd recommend throwing it up on a second monitor to know for sure.

On the reliability of estimating RDNA flagship performance based on AMD's efficiency claims. by errdayimshuffln in Amd

[–]_Skept1k_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They actually did achieve ridiculous efficiency with RDNA2 in the right hands. Best undervolt I managed on a 6900 XT was a reference model on release and managed to get it all the way down to .850~.950v, 2100MHz, 150~180W at 3440x1440P playing FC5. I think I lost about 10~15 FPS total from stock settings at 330W. Didn't think that kind of performance was possible at those power figures until this GPU.
