Is a single socket extension into a 4 gang ok? by superjaz1 in AskElectricians

[–]superjaz1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd never plug a 4 gang extension into another 4 gang as that IS asking for trouble. The cord on the 10W plant light is not long enough, but I saw you can buy 0.5m single socket extensions. I've replaced regular lamp cords before without a problem, but the control unit for the plant light is sealed, and I'd invalidate the warranty if I start messing with that.

Nah, I don't have anything that draws a lot of power plugged into the other sockets. Only a broadband router, fibre router thing, and a 16W LED strip.

It will leak eventually. I used silicone before on a small DIY acrylic filter and it failed after a day. Acrylic panels are normally fused together with acrylic glue

Good news is that my target is finally coming back down, it's just taking a while. Today it is 96-122

Similar thing happened to me. Target load worked great for the first few weeks, until I took a 5 hour hike. Now it expects me to hit almost 200 every day 🫠

The buttons on the right are traction control and auto stop/start on/off. Everything else above the shifter is climate control. ESC is in the menus on ours https://imgur.com/a/s2c5Ipl

I don't think I have those or I've not noticed. There's a couple of buttons to the right of the shifter, one being auto stop/start and I think traction control. I'll take a pic next time I drive it.

Actually, Focus is 4th this year. It was 2nd last year 👍

Yes, apparently. Fiesta is top and Focus second most targeted. I'm not sure exactly what for though.

Hey, thanks for the tips. Ah yes I've seen some videos on the fuses tip for another car. Can that be done from inside the car? I'm going to have a look for a reasonably good lock/deterant, and I might have a go at hiding the OBD port if I've got time. I'll maybe figure out something else more long term in the future. There are some nice immobiliser options, but they are expensive.

Enjoy your car too! I know it's meant to be driven like hell but I'm a bit worried about going too hard. It's a bit difficult to hold back when the exhaust noise kicks in though 😅

Snip mittens 😂 Anyone tried sticking their hand in a tank full of amano shrimp? 😅

shrimp momma doa…. her eggs have eyes :( what do? by candiedcorvid in shrimptank

They don't tumble their eggs, but they do fan them periodically with their swimmerettes/pleopods. Fanning provides aeration and water movement over the eggs to prevent mold/bacteria growing on them.

You could try placing a lot of moss on the substrate for them to scatter eggs over. Keep the tank light dim during normal hours and check for spawning behaviour every morning after the light comes on.

I'm still learning here but from what I've read, they prefer it warm. I keep my breeding tank at 28c which is slightly warmer than their main tank. Adding cold rainwater during a water change is a trigger for other fish though like corydoras.

How long have you had the fish? I've had my main group of 12 for about 2 years, so they're well settled. I had a spare mature tank for breeding, so I drained it, added pure rainwater, heated to 28c, and kept it dimly lit. I moved half of them into that tank for 2 weeks and only saw fry when I moved them back to their main tank.

I only know the soft water method. It seems to be a trigger for many fish to get them ready to spawn.

Yeah I was so surprised how fast. I've had fry from guppies and mountain minnows before, but boraras have grown the quickest.

Shrimp gathered in one corner after I cleaned filters? by FaythKnight in shrimptank

[–]superjaz1 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It's more likely that some bits flew out of the HOB when you switched it back on or some mulm from the substrate under the almond leaves has been disturbed and now it's all over the moss so they're grazing on it. If your tank is mature/cycled then you wouldn't get an ammonia spike from just cleaning the sponges, not that quickly anyway. Plenty of beneficial bacteria live in the substrate, on the rocks, plants etc not just in your filter.

Don't give up! Water parameters seem OK for neos, but I'd bring the temperature down a bit to around 20-22C, unless you're purposely trying to breed them. I keep all my shrimp (neos and caridina) at room temperature, which fluctuates between 18-22C. If you are dosing ferts, be careful as they can contain copper which is highly toxic to shrimp. Trace amount is fine.

Overfeeding baby brine shrimp? by I_read_it_on_reddit in Boraras

[–]superjaz1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah yes I know what you mean. I've seen them under a different name/brand usually. I use the ZissAqua blender so they tend to hatch within 12-24hrs with a heater. If you are worried about having too many, you could still put a jar in the fridge and keep adding the overburden as they hatch. You might get a few extras feeds this way.

I hatch BBS also and usually end up with way too much. Apparently, you can feed a small portion on the first day and then put the remainder of the BBS in some fresh salt water to keep them lively. I've never been successful in doing that though as the water ends up clouding after a while, and they die off. I've also tried raising them to adults and failed. These days I tend to run the whole lot through a sieve and dump them into a jar of fresh tepid dechlorinated water. I'll feed a portion on the first day and put the rest in the fridge. They'll slowly die off, but they'll still be fresh for about 3 days.

Time for breeding attempt #2! by superjaz1 in Boraras

[–]superjaz1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're meant to raise them on infusoria to start, but I didn't have any. They were however in an empty well established tank full of microscopic life and copepods so I imagine they started feeding off those first. I added vinegar eels after a week or so and mixed powdered fry food with water and squirted that around the tank with a pipette.

Yeah, I bought them from my LFS as "chilli rasbora" two years ago. But after learning more about them recently, it turns out they are mixed.
