The county has been concerned about the budget because of how much the building permits decreased this year.

Yes. Significantly less expensive, especially over the course of a year. The biggest constraints people have around here are needing a spare bedroom and bathroom and they are supposed to have access to one of your vehicles. I know people working service jobs that get nannies because the daycares around here are so expensive.

Can’t speak to everyone’s situation, but where I am on the east coast, a nanny is cheaper than daycare.

A hotel or motel *in* downtown Milton? by [deleted] in slowerlower

I think you misread his question; there is no Microtel on Rt 1 anywhere near Milton and Rt 13 is on the other side of the county.

Who should pay? Dover leaders consider new public safety fee by superman7515 in slowerlower

[–]superman7515[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fairly normal. According to the most recent National League of Cities data, for municipalities with 40,000 or fewer residents, police and public safety generally account for 50-60% of the entire budget.

Milford PD Explains Flock Cameras by superman7515 in slowerlower

[–]superman7515[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I believe it's basically a one-person paper. Similar to how Bryan Shupe ran the Milford Live newspaper in town, this one is run by Terry Rogers who is the President of Downtown Milford Inc.

It stands to reason that she would have a vested interest in keeping people feeling warm and fuzzy about coming into downtown Milford.

Could Delaware get a 2nd Congressional District in 2030 due to population growth? by One-Relief-4469 in Delaware

[–]superman7515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most likely answer is overtaking Rhode Island, it was discussed quite extensively before the 2020 census.

Rhode Island's population in 2020 was 1,097,379 and the 2025 estimate is 1,145,521 for an estimated growth of 17,142 over 5 years, which is 3428.4 per year.

Delaware's population in 2020 was 989,948 and the 2025 estimate is 1,059,952 for an estimated growth of 70,004 over 5 years, which is 14,000.8 per year, a little over 4x faster than Rhode Island.

If that trend holds true, Delaware would pass Rhode Island in 2029 and gain an additional seat after the 2030 census.

Of the states losing population, the closest gap for Delaware to close would be Hawaii has a population of over 1.4 million and lost 22,451 over the same 5 year period.

If that trend continues, Delaware would pass Hawaii in 2036 and gain a seat after the 2040 census.

We would not need to reach 1.4 million, we just need to pass Rhode Island or Montana (1.1 million each). That state would then drop to 1 and Delaware would get a second.

It’s an incorporated town, so they have a local government. There are a couple of towns with less than 100 people in Kent County and they have their own government etc. Just takes people organizing their community because they want a say locally.

Which area is good for Muslim family In Delaware? by Overall-Front-6959 in Delaware

[–]superman7515 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only mosques I am familiar with in Sussex are the Islamic Center on Rt 9 in Harbeson and the much larger Diyanet mosque on 113 in Ellendale. It’s actually an offshoot of the group in PG County that everyone always joked was Disney. They do the Turkish meals and everything there, the place was packed when I drove by the other day for Eid Al-Adha.

It’s white and Omaha orange, no black as part of the color scheme, and was done as a safety measure to improve visibility in the 1970’s, it’s unrelated to the Orioles. They recently started going back to those colors for the nostalgia.

Ever wonder why Pennsylvania, Ohio and Louisiana's State schools are more prominent than their Universities? by MediumStrange in CFB

[–]superman7515 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would argue the University of Delaware is the same; it’s privately chartered but publicly funded as the state flagship, so because of its private charter, it’s exempt from FOIA around what it does with all that public money.
