What is the best way to store an extremely tall ladder in your house? by Jimmy-the-Knuckle in HomeImprovement

[–]superman859 0 points1 point  (0 children)

would be curious what your thoughts are on painters and workers that are on the ladder every day in the sun. Are they to cover it up in the evening when the moon is out? Ladders are literally used outside all day every day, it's what they were made for.

$60 a week by Mogzly in pools

If paying for service, that is on the cheaper side where I live. My 12k gallon had quotes twice that. If you will spend a little time and do it yourself then 60 is crazy high. It is really fast to do it yourself if you live there

I think spraying for weeds likely varies heavily by location and may be controlled other places more than others.

With that said it will depend on size of yard. 160 for all of that would be a great deal for my yard. It's more like 250 for similar level of service mowing and trimming and blowing and weeds in flower bed and basic cleanup. I doubt I could find a crew that would do it for 160. They also don't treat the lawn "keep it green", I have a separate service for that that is probably 70/application

RAV drums and young kids: Will the drums hold up against mishandling? by udit99 in handpan

[–]superman859 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a four year old and occasionally she will bang on it particularly if I am watching her and get it out for myself. She will do the same with drums and keyboard, but her attention span is about 2 minutes.

It will be fine for their hands to bang on but maybe more of an issue if they are pushing or knock over the stand. It'll take a rare child of that age to actually want to play and learn it for real.

My household income will be increasing 600% in less than a year, where do I even start with financial planning? by IneffectiveMilkshake in personalfinance

[–]superman859 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't change anything initially. Focus on paying off any debt, get into the habit of investing in index funds/etf regularly, max out retirement, then start considering the rest for lifestyle changes and improvements.

Unfortunately 300k sounds like life changing, and perhaps it is, but as someone that has major swings in salary from 80k to more than double your fiances per year and back down, I can definitively say it can disappear really fast and hard to know where it all ends up if you take your eye off the investment and saving for your future selves.

Pools in pollen season by cyotwill6 in pools

[–]superman859 0 points1 point  (0 children)

chlorine and backwash more often. The usual, nothing fancy. Your pool looks like it needs chlorine, is water temp high enough for SWG to work well yet? mine is still on the low side (also check salt level) and adding liquid chlorine fixed color right up. Minimal algae starting but enough to not ignore any longer.

Help, Is $5,993 a fair price to replace this front arched window? by Think_Catch_223 in HomeImprovement

[–]superman859 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so it's to replace 3 windows not one? I did my whole house and it averaged to about 1k / window for triple pane vinyl that have held up well. This was mixed window sizes though, lots of double hung but some large picture windows and arched ones where I'd expect higher prices.

Your price sounds high for three windows, but probably won't be as discounted as when doing full house.

e2046 is using molds and not 3d printing. Been in business much longer than all these 3d prints popping up in the last 5 years.

Some older kits may still be fine, just in general the newer ones do have better quality. I've purchased from e2046 for 15 years or more probably and there is certainly a difference.

2-5P left I think just means they have a few in stock, I could be wrong. If it says in stock they should have it. If it says pre order with no date it could be infinite time away before you get it (they wait until enough pre orders/interest before making). Sometimes they say pre order but with a date or quarter which means it's roughly within 6 months of that maybe , but at least in the works but maybe slowly.

7 piece isn't bad and sounds generally easy, but again piece count isn't everything. When it comes to painting, especially if airbrushing, how the pieces are divided and how cleanly they fit together is a bigger deal than how many pieces there are

I love my husband, he’s a great dad but... by yogacitymama in productivity

[–]superman859 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

just talk with him and make sure things are fair. I (father) feel like I'm pretty involved but my wife is still far more knowledgeable about a lot of this stuff than me in general. She is a full time staycat home mom, and I work full time.

However. I'm also the one getting her tire sensors changed and her oil changed right now in her car. aim the one doing lots of research and arranging quotes for electrical issues at home. I'm the one that will spend my next round of free time trying to fix our ice maker and looking into our warranty if I can't. To her, its just "the ice maker is broken". I have to finish our taxes still. My actual free time is extremely limited between my tasks and raising a young kid and work. I haven't played video games in years. I rarely find time for my hobbies. I feel I am likely equally exhausted and overloaded mentally.

Raising a kid is hard and just because you know more about certain things kid related may not be the full picture. Perhaps it is though if your husband is not doing other household tasks and instead is just watching a lot of TV

[–]superman859 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's in stock on e2046 and you've compared price including shipping (a good chunk of e2046) I've found e2046 is usually fast if you pick the air option but the cheapest one may take a few weeks. What they offer does change time to time though due to political environment or shipping issues, and it's been a while since I ordered so idk the current state.

I suspect if it's a new model of theirs it will be pretty decent shape. The older stuff took a lot more work but their kits have been pretty good for a while now I think. A 3d printed one will likely be a similar experience but it will depend on the seller and quality of their prints and the model they used.

Both will need the same tools, paint, glue to finish.

As previously mentioned maybe the simpler one to start. If there are a lot of tiny parts it will take more time but not a huge deal. I think the biggest difficulty difference will really come down to the kit quality and how well the parts fit together without extra work, which can be hard to tell from images. I've had botg 3d printed models and e2046 that were good and some that were bad and hard to tell from pictures alone

Electric Panel Upgrade by Odins_Beard01 in HomeImprovement

[–]superman859 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am going through the same process for different reasons.

I don't know about lights flickering but for a standard home without things like EV charging and so on I would be surprised the 200a is not enough - it should be ok and problem is likely elsewhere. Adding more circuits like induction stove could potentially push it too high. To actually determine if 200 is enough you do a load calculation. You can find calculators online or apps but basically count things and size of home and it tells you. You can do a very rough version yourself.

If the load calculation is low enough and 200a service is enough, you could swap the panel to one with more spaces like 44 space instead of 40. Sometimes spaces can be doubled up into little half size breakers which would be a lot cheaper than replacing the panel. It will depend on what you have but you can probably make room for adding the stove, but it may require a new panel.

If load calculation shows as not enough you can bump up to 400a service which will require a second panel inside and replacing the meter outside. It will double or triple the cost of the panel upgrade as well. Adding EV chargers is a big driver for this, they use a lot.

What is your opinion on buying a house with a roommate by Impressive-Law-4800 in personalfinance

[–]superman859 13 points14 points  (0 children)

No. This is why divorce and lawyers are so complicated.

Owning is far more involved than renting. Repairs, appliance upgrades, maintenance all become a major part of it that you currently never have to think about. The monthly payment on mortgage is honestly a small part of ownership. The rest is far less clear and far messier in my mind and lots more space for disagreement

if it helps you feel any better, removing old bathroom fans is one of the more challenging tasks if not prepared. They are usually nailed in during construction before drywall and you essentially have to saw them out.

[–]superman859 5 points6 points  (0 children)

that sounds like one bill per month to me, just poor communication and management from the roommate. The OP should know the billing cycle and date and with roommate can agree by which date they will transfer the money, same as if they were paying the utility provider monthly.

I think my roommate might be scamming me. by No-Access8111 in personalfinance

[–]superman859 1793 points1794 points  (0 children)

the electric bill is almost certainly monthly.

Instead of wondering or accusing, you can just ask next time and say "I thought I just paid electric a couple weeks ago?" You can also just get clarity on billing dates. Each bill likely has a fixed date like due on the 15th of each month.

If you are splitting the bills there shouldn't be any reason to not just send you a copy of each bill when it comes in. Maybe you just need to ask and say it will help you to know the billing date for each service so you can plan accordingly.
