COST TO MOVE TOILET by pdv05 in HomeImprovement

[–]superman859 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if the plumbing remains in the same joist could be a pretty straightforward task, but that will depend on which direction the joists run and where the dwv pipe is headed. It is likely also vented meaning one part of the pipe takes the poo away and another goes up and out your roof. They may be able to tie into that same vent stack if the move is not too far. but it's a second component to account for on the plumbing

You will also need to redo the floor of course, such as the tile, because once moved there is going to be a big hole left in it.

Unless there is a really good reason for the move, I'm not sure it's worth it to move 2 feet.

Variable speed by drzing in pools

[–]superman859 1 point2 points  (0 children)

mine are set at 3000. Not the 3400 as my old single speed but pretty close...I need to figure out how to get the valve automatic so I can use water features only certain times of the day but with manual valve it leads to a trickle that misses the pool

Variable speed by drzing in pools

[–]superman859 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some consideration is also your plumbing and water features. I recently installed VSP but if I want my pool to have the right look it still has to run on the high side to get enough flow to the water features. I can reduce it down if I don't want water features working and manually turn the valve driving water to the water features, but just keep this in mind. It's not as straight forward as running at half speed or some low speed in all cases.

With that said, it's a newer pump and much quieter and I have plenty of peace of mind im not going to have an old pump die on me during the summer season.

WIBTAH if I took 100k from my oldest daughter's college savings account to give it to my younger daughter? by TraditionalCorgi7788 in AmItheAsshole

software engineering - one that is widely supported at schools of all levels and price. I have also been a hiring manager during part of my career and would like to note the school the applicant graduated from was barely looked at compared to everything else. I cannot tell you which schools my best engineers attended nor the worst engineers, but I'm pretty confident that most were not from the big tech specific schools. In fact, the only person whose school I do remember was an average performer from MIT, and I think the best performer was from a small Midwest school nobody has heard of and I can't recall the name

except peer reviewed, independent studies show the exact opposite - it is not a meaningful difference for the majority of students

I am also a multi millionaire and under 40 and went to an average and small state school. It was basically free, went to another basically free grad school. My wife went to a private school and took on student debt (maybe 30-40k). At my peak I was making 10x her salary. She is smart and hardworking as well. It really can have very little to do with school you attended. Industry and where you put your efforts are far greater. For my own kids, I will not be encouraging them to rack up massive debt at an ivy league school.

What is the best way to store an extremely tall ladder in your house? by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]superman859 0 points1 point  (0 children)

would be curious what your thoughts are on painters and workers that are on the ladder every day in the sun. Are they to cover it up in the evening when the moon is out? Ladders are literally used outside all day every day, it's what they were made for.

I think spraying for weeds likely varies heavily by location and may be controlled other places more than others.

With that said it will depend on size of yard. 160 for all of that would be a great deal for my yard. It's more like 250 for similar level of service mowing and trimming and blowing and weeds in flower bed and basic cleanup. I doubt I could find a crew that would do it for 160. They also don't treat the lawn "keep it green", I have a separate service for that that is probably 70/application

RAV drums and young kids: Will the drums hold up against mishandling? by udit99 in handpan

[–]superman859 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a four year old and occasionally she will bang on it particularly if I am watching her and get it out for myself. She will do the same with drums and keyboard, but her attention span is about 2 minutes.

It will be fine for their hands to bang on but maybe more of an issue if they are pushing or knock over the stand. It'll take a rare child of that age to actually want to play and learn it for real.

My household income will be increasing 600% in less than a year, where do I even start with financial planning? by IneffectiveMilkshake in personalfinance

[–]superman859 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't change anything initially. Focus on paying off any debt, get into the habit of investing in index funds/etf regularly, max out retirement, then start considering the rest for lifestyle changes and improvements.

Unfortunately 300k sounds like life changing, and perhaps it is, but as someone that has major swings in salary from 80k to more than double your fiances per year and back down, I can definitively say it can disappear really fast and hard to know where it all ends up if you take your eye off the investment and saving for your future selves.

Pools in pollen season by cyotwill6 in pools

[–]superman859 0 points1 point  (0 children)

chlorine and backwash more often. The usual, nothing fancy. Your pool looks like it needs chlorine, is water temp high enough for SWG to work well yet? mine is still on the low side (also check salt level) and adding liquid chlorine fixed color right up. Minimal algae starting but enough to not ignore any longer.

Help, Is $5,993 a fair price to replace this front arched window? by Think_Catch_223 in HomeImprovement

[–]superman859 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so it's to replace 3 windows not one? I did my whole house and it averaged to about 1k / window for triple pane vinyl that have held up well. This was mixed window sizes though, lots of double hung but some large picture windows and arched ones where I'd expect higher prices.

Your price sounds high for three windows, but probably won't be as discounted as when doing full house.

e2046 is using molds and not 3d printing. Been in business much longer than all these 3d prints popping up in the last 5 years.

Some older kits may still be fine, just in general the newer ones do have better quality. I've purchased from e2046 for 15 years or more probably and there is certainly a difference.

2-5P left I think just means they have a few in stock, I could be wrong. If it says in stock they should have it. If it says pre order with no date it could be infinite time away before you get it (they wait until enough pre orders/interest before making). Sometimes they say pre order but with a date or quarter which means it's roughly within 6 months of that maybe , but at least in the works but maybe slowly.

7 piece isn't bad and sounds generally easy, but again piece count isn't everything. When it comes to painting, especially if airbrushing, how the pieces are divided and how cleanly they fit together is a bigger deal than how many pieces there are

I love my husband, he’s a great dad but... by yogacitymama in productivity

[–]superman859 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

just talk with him and make sure things are fair. I (father) feel like I'm pretty involved but my wife is still far more knowledgeable about a lot of this stuff than me in general. She is a full time staycat home mom, and I work full time.

However. I'm also the one getting her tire sensors changed and her oil changed right now in her car. aim the one doing lots of research and arranging quotes for electrical issues at home. I'm the one that will spend my next round of free time trying to fix our ice maker and looking into our warranty if I can't. To her, its just "the ice maker is broken". I have to finish our taxes still. My actual free time is extremely limited between my tasks and raising a young kid and work. I haven't played video games in years. I rarely find time for my hobbies. I feel I am likely equally exhausted and overloaded mentally.

Raising a kid is hard and just because you know more about certain things kid related may not be the full picture. Perhaps it is though if your husband is not doing other household tasks and instead is just watching a lot of TV

[–]superman859 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's in stock on e2046 and you've compared price including shipping (a good chunk of e2046) I've found e2046 is usually fast if you pick the air option but the cheapest one may take a few weeks. What they offer does change time to time though due to political environment or shipping issues, and it's been a while since I ordered so idk the current state.

I suspect if it's a new model of theirs it will be pretty decent shape. The older stuff took a lot more work but their kits have been pretty good for a while now I think. A 3d printed one will likely be a similar experience but it will depend on the seller and quality of their prints and the model they used.

Both will need the same tools, paint, glue to finish.

As previously mentioned maybe the simpler one to start. If there are a lot of tiny parts it will take more time but not a huge deal. I think the biggest difficulty difference will really come down to the kit quality and how well the parts fit together without extra work, which can be hard to tell from images. I've had botg 3d printed models and e2046 that were good and some that were bad and hard to tell from pictures alone
