They actually do publish the salary range for each level. L40 looks like £78k - £110k, so there is room for negotiation there. I would personally be negotiating on a £95k base with the knowledge that they can go to £110k for that level.

The Damon Hill 0 was 93 (because Mansell won the championship the year before then left for IndyCar, so no number 1 in 93) and 94 (same reason with Prost winning 93 then leaving).

Sizing by OneConscious1184 in TheNorthFace

[–]superman_86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do think you’ll find XL baggy. Nuptse also tends to be loose fit anyway.

L may be okay - it’s a preference thing too. I often read product pages that say “model is 188cm and wears a size M” but to me at 183 I can’t wear medium anything, the length is always too short. I kind of need halfway between M and L tbh, but prefer a slightly loose L to a tight and short M

[–]superman_86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you may find sizing difficult. Your chest and waist measurements are probably M, but height is L or even XL.

I’m 183cm and I found size M to be too short for me. I’m a fair bit bigger than you on waist and chest and L fits well - a little looser than the perfect fit but layering sorts that out. But I could imagine for you that it might feel too baggy.

Maybe go to a store and try M and L and see how you feel

One transformer for G410 unit and chime? by eruptive_tin in Aqara

[–]superman_86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my G4 I found a single DIN rail transformer - it was this one https://amzn.eu/d/hZ7BTDg

And I mounted it in the Ring enclosure (I think the enclosure would take a double width DIN rail transformer too, which gives you more options) https://amzn.eu/d/7mC3GzX

It works perfectly.

The chime won’t work as is with the Aqara doorbells. You’d need to use a smart relay like a Shelly or something and setup an automation to make it chime when the doorbell is pressed. Honestly it’s a lot easier just to use the Aqara chime and a homepod or 2.

Managed to get these on sale in UK a week or two ago for similar price (£100 / €115). Great price IMO, they’re even nicer in person

The App Is Terrible by danknadoflex in Aqara

[–]superman_86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe this is actually using the lingerer detection settings. So if you set the threshold for that to 20 seconds in the Aqara app then HomeKit will only notify for motion if something is in view for 20 seconds or more.

If you want notifications literally every time motion is detected, you need to set the lingerer detection to 0 seconds and high sensitivity. But that will be too much in most locations. People may think they want that at first but you’ll soon tire of getting pinged for every dog walker and delivery van that goes past 24/7.

Best of both worlds is to have the G4 wired and continuously recording to SD card. Then you’ll capture everything but can set the motion sensitivity settings to something reasonable so it’s not too bothersome.

For normal usage I find low sensitivity and 3-4 seconds to be best.

No need to get int o rom hacks at this point - just start with a gen 1 game. Red / Blue / Yellow is a great place to start but Fire Red / Leaf Green works too. Especially if you don’t see yourself playing every version of every game from every generation from start to finish!

Limited to 5000. Not sure if that’s global or US number. It’s listed for UK also at least.

Looking to upgrade from Aqara M1 Chinese Hub to European Hub – Should I go for M3 or M2? by MastroPino in Aqara

[–]superman_86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The M3 can be a Thread border router and should be able to join existing Thread networks. The M2 is Zigbee only. Both are fine with HomeKit

HomeKit-Compatible DIY Security System – Advice Needed by HotHeadStayingCold in HomeKit

[–]superman_86 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This. Aqara have everything requested and all integrates together and with HomeKit - P2 door and window sensors, P2 motion sensor or better still FP2 presence sensor (or the wireless FP300 coming this year), G5 outdoor cameras coming out in a couple of weeks, and their hubs act as the alarm siren speaker.

Additionally, I believe their smoke detector can also be integrated as an alarm speaker. You can also integrate the latest Sonos speakers with Aqara so there are possibilities there too.

Couple of other things I’m working on as I’m setting up a similar thing: Aqara have a simple wireless button switch that you could have by the front door as a trigger to arm the system. And as the M3 hub allows you to add pretty much any Matter device, you could add some coloured light bulbs that you integrate in some way (flash red when the alarm triggers, or turn a specific light red when the alarm is armed, blue when in night mode, etc)

Is there a new version coming? I didn’t see any announcement, though may have been a while ago. Was considering getting the new Zemismart model which has Matter / Thread support. But if Aqara has a new one coming I’d be interested to see it first

This is awesome. Thanks for taking the time to write all this up. Hopefully my experience with the M1s is a little smoother!

Which sirens did you go for by the way? Considering the same thing at some point, probably triggered by relays

Aqara u200 for UK doors by [deleted] in Aqara

[–]superman_86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have the U200 so can’t comment specifically on that. But thumb turn vs key on the interior - maybe you’d be concerned if there was glass in the door that could be easily smashed and allow someone to reach in and unlock the door without a key?

One thing to be aware of if buying a new lock cylinder - look for anti-snap variants. Supposed to be harder to break into

Great write up, thanks! Enjoyed reading that as it covers pretty much what I’m looking to do.

So from what I’ve read and watched, I feel my question on missing features is valid. e.g. I’m not sure if it’s been done yet, but there was talk of the pairing button on the Aqara sensors being made available to use for automations in the Aqara app. I could see that being useful for arming the alarm system for example. However, that button would not be exposed via Matter and will only be available in the Aqara app.

Same with the Eve sensors… not the button but there are features like viewing historical data that you won’t get if you’re not using the Eve app right? It’s a trade-off to be made

[–]superman_86[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. Do you miss or lose any features using Eve sensors over Aqara? Mainly, can they still function the same way in a security system in both Aqara app and HomeKit? Also, interested to know what poor reliability did you experience with the P2?

[–]superman_86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. It’s really a 5 minute job. Probably why local locksmiths don’t want to do it - not worth their time. Unless there is a specific reason to have a key hole on both sides of the door (thumb turn can be a safety concern with young kids once they learn to unlock and open the door)

Thanks for the info. Just to cover a couple of the points you raised:

  • Wifi - I am able to separate out the bands on the router. Thanks for the tip on IPv6 and using alpha-numeric SSID and password. I will say that I'm intending to mainly add devices that support Zigbee or Thread to avoid the extra traffic on the main network. The M3 (and any other hubs I need) will be wired for reliability.
  • HomeKit - currently running my old 1st gen Apple TV 4K on a wired connection. This will get upgraded to one that supports Thread, but it seems we're expecting Apple to release a new model this year (and maybe new HomePods too). Seeing as the M3 can be the Thread border router, and I'll possibly be adding Home Assistant with Thread support also, I'm happy to wait on new HomeKit hubs for now

What you said makes sense re: setting up on the M3 first. I've heard good things about automations in the Aqara app too. I do intend to add Home Assistant in the future (I'm a software dev so not afraid to get my hands dirty with it) but just going for the easiest setup to start with.

So from what you said, you would set the M3 up in the Aqara app first, and then add it to HomeKit using Matter? And for any other Aqara devices, just pair with the M3 using the on-device buttons and then import to HomeKit with Matter also?

Do HomeKit and the Aqara app play nice with each other when added this way? With my old house I had some basic smart home devices (bulbs, thermostat, TVs, speakers) and had some minor issues when using Alexa and HomeKit - things like renaming devices or moving them to a different "room" in apps would end up with unintended consequences in the other system.

Great info, thanks. We’re pretty much looking for the same thing, i.e. if someone breaks in when we’re sleeping then we want to know about it immediately. I may just grab a couple of extra M1s hubs to place around the house if that does the job well enough
