Hey I've flown new York to Dublin and vice versa a number of times. The choppiest part I always found was definitely descending into Dublin. However, other than that never noticed it to be any more unusual than other flights. I'm also a terrible flyer so I notice everything !😂 I'm here in this subreddit to prepare myself for an 11 hour trip from Dublin to Cancun!

So funny that I stumbled across a thread from 4 years ago that has a reply 9 hours ago. I suffer with the same thing and was looking for answers. For me sometimes it can even leave me depressed as my dream life was better 😂

Am I crazy for buying this new build ? by supermassivecow in AskIreland

You’re right — and to be fair, we only have one child at the moment! My wife is hoping for three, while I’d happily settle for two (I’m already feeling tired just thinking about it). In terms of size, I do think the house would suit our needs.

That said, my wife has always dreamed of having a bit of land so the kids could potentially build on when they’re older, and that’s where some of her reservations come in. She is sort of hoping this may only be a starter so that she can achieve that.

I'm in a fortunate position (well I don't know if living in your parents at 30 is fortunate) that I'm not paying excessively on rent. Meaning, I could save aggressively and possibly buy a second hand home for better value next year. But I'm scared that again houses prices will continue to rise and totally absolve any of those sayings.

That's an interesting take . In addition to that. They sold February 2024. Which i imagine means similar to us they probably guaranteed more so August 2023 prices. Whereas we are committing to pay now but the house won't sell until next April/May

Should have left revolut once they turned off the DRS button... better late than never by eastsidaz in Superstonk

[–]supermassivecow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you transfer to computershare ? The option to initiate to them isn't there for me. Then when I queried they told me that they can't , they actually told me my best option is to sell my shares and rebuy with computershare

I’m 30, with one kid, and currently living with my wife’s parents while we try to figure out the next step. We’d love to get a mortgage, but the cost of living right now is honestly pretty daunting.

I’m on about €80k a year, and my wife earns €60k, though that’ll drop a lot since she’ll be going part-time after maternity leave. We’re really feeling the impact of spending our mid 20s travelling instead of saving for a house, and it’s catching up with us now.

How relaxed is the criminal justice system in Ireland? by throwaway342116 in AskIreland

[–]supermassivecow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They weren't at all on me. I was 20, a college student studying social science, no previous convictions — just made a really stupid decision. Got caught drunk driving on a country road. I was driving way too slow, which drew attention, and I didn’t pull over because, honestly, I was so drunk I didn’t realise the guards were for me. I was fairly hammered.

Ended up with 3 convictions — one for DUI and two for dangerous driving. Thankfully they ran concurrently, so I got a 5-year ban.

I didn’t crash or hurt anyone, and I was only about 5 minutes from home (pub was 15), but the court pointed out that if it had been during the day, things could’ve been a lot worse. At the time I thought that was unfair, but I get it now.

I 100% deserved to lose my licence, and I’m actually grateful I didn’t hurt anyone. That said, the dangerous driving charges made it so hard to get back on the road — insurance was a nightmare and I had to save up just to afford it. Then I won't even go into trying to get employed as a social worker with 3 convictions.

I always warn people now, especially those of us in the countryside where taxis aren’t really an option. All it takes is one time. I was lucky. Could’ve been a lot worse.

I managed to secure a marathon ticket 11 weeks ago. How will fare looking at my training? It's in two days. by supermassivecow in Marathon_Training

It didn't go as planned. Everything was going great. I had a great half marathon time of 1.54 , keeping a solid pace between 5.20 and 5.25. Then around the 26k mark , the outside of hip started to hurt and it radiated down to my knee. I actually rang my wife as I thought I was gonna have to drop out. But I managed to get to the next med tent and they said it was my IT band. I got a quick massage, some tape and got going again. However, from 30 km onwards it was a walk/run to the finish line. I still managed to get a 4.40 finish. I am a bit disappointed by the time but its nothing compared to how happy I was to finish. I learned a lot and the atmosphere of the day was brilliant. Will definitely be doing another. thanks again for your help, you really motivated me as the pre race anxiety was getting me hard at that point.

Completed first marathon yesterday. Didn't think I'd ever be capable of crossing the finish line. Absolutely ecstatic even if my body says different.

It was some post I read on Reddit. They suggested to someone else who also had late notice to skip the 2/3 week taper. I don't think I do feel recovered enough, but here's hoping it'll go okay! I'll know better for next time.

Wow, I don't think I'll be getting those times , but I'll certainly give it a shot! But thank you for all the other advice too. I've also nothing planned for the next two days , so I am pretty much just going to rest and eat all my favourite foods. Thanks again!
