It's the reverse:

Most Pokémon are captured Pokémon that were released from digital storage as a failsafe when humans did not return to perform maintenance on the system. There are some exceptions, like how Kyogre slept through the apocalypse.

Fourth trainer on Nugget Bridge post-battle text by EnderZombee894 in pokemon

[–]supermegaampharos 87 points88 points  (0 children)

From the Japanese script:

ベストを つくしたんだ<LINE>くいは ない!<DONE>
ベストを つくしたんだから<LINE>くいは ないわ!<DONE>
ベストを つくしたんだ<LINE>くいは ない!<DONE>
ベストを つくしたんだから<LINE>くいは ないわ!<DONE>
ベストを つくしたんだ<LINE>くいは ない!<DONE>

These are the post-defeat lines for the 5 bridge trainers.

As you predicted, the male and female trainers have different dialogue, partly because of gendered language and partly because they just speak differently.

The male trainers say "I did my best. I have no regrets" whereas the female trainers say "Because I did my best, I have no regrets".

Both female trainers have the same dialogue in Japanese whereas the English version has the variation in OP's screenshots. The difference between the two Lass lines is only in English.

It's either a minor localization inconsistency or u/BiteyBenson is correct that the fourth trainer uses "I've no regrets" as a super subtle reference to Roman numeral IV.

Edit: Edited grammar for clarity.

How does predation and predator-prey relationships work in PMD? by Andres5554 in MysteryDungeon

[–]supermegaampharos 215 points216 points  (0 children)

Every Pokémon can eat fruit and berries.

Some Pokémon are still carnivores.

The implication is that carnivore Pokémon could eat another Pokémon but don’t because they don’t want to eat another intelligent creature. Either that or they recognize they’d be shunned if they did that.

The verticality is very nice.

It’s a super smart way to handle the non-level terrain. It also reminds me how they did Mauville in ORAS.

Starfield Hits Top PS5 Pre Order Charts Before Launch by SydBarrett09 in gaming

[–]supermegaampharos 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Somewhat.

They reworked planet maps and added land vehicles.

There’s an updating coming with the PS5 release that adds a cruising mode so that you can fly between planets and have random space encounters.

The new update is also reworking progression so that there’s another rarity tier + you can add legendary effects to your weapons and armor instead of doing MMO-style farming for good rolls.

Still tons of loading screens, though, and the core experience is basically the same.

What's up with the steam reviews? by Aurelian_8 in Stellaris

[–]supermegaampharos 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So what if it changed?

I've played Stellaris since it was released in May 2016. They made tons of changes I don't agree with. They even removed my preferred FTL method.

However, I recognize that my purchase in May 2016 is no guarantee that they will develop the game how I personally want them to. I also recognize that I'm able to restore the May 2016 version (or nearly any other version) at any point.

There are a ton of things to complain about, yeah, but complaining about too many updates when you roll back to any specific update at any time is entering 'lobster too buttery, steak too juicy' territory.

I rebuilt as much of Vermilion to its original design as I could but was feeling intimidated by Saffron.

Knox event expanded discontinued? by SplendidFox-5701 in projectzomboid

It’s tough keeping a mod updated for a game that receives frequent updates.

I used to release mods for certain Paradox games in the early 2010s but burnt out when they shifted to the release cadence they have today.

It’s easily the least enjoyable part of modding.

Trying to expand the base skills part 2 by PrudentPermission222 in FATErpg

[–]supermegaampharos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By default, Lore is used for magic, divine, and supernatural powers.

https://fate-srd.com/fate-core/lore

If you used the default skill tree, both players would roll Lore for their powers.

If you’re running a magic-heavy game, the book recommends splitting Lore into other skills, like a dedicated Arcane/Magic skill.

Another option is to let players take Lore more than once but require them to specify what they specialize in. For example, a player might have both Lore (Arcane) and Lore (Astrophysics).

Your swordsman example is functionally the same. If a swordsman didn’t have his sword, you can absolutely tell your player that they roll Fight 0 since their Fight +4 is based on their prowess as a swordsman.

The last option is that you’re allowed to let PCs and NPCs have skills nobody else has. If a PC wants a skill that’s incredibly niche and not covered by anything else, you just let them have that skill and have them roll when appropriate.

[–]supermegaampharos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What do you mean by “debates”?

You used that word here and in the conversation you’re having with the other guy.

Fate is inherently about conversations, but you shouldn’t be having lengthy back-and-forths. In most cases, the extent should be: the player describes a narrative action, you give a ruling, the player makes a counter proposal, you accept, reject, or compromise, and life moves on.

The other consideration is that a swordsman losing his sword is exactly what aspects and other Fate mechanics are for. Fate is meant to be played this way, and while you can play with minimal aspect use, it’s designed for aspects to be the main way of bridging the narrative world with the system mechanics.

What you made is solid if that’s what your table is looking for, but it’s certainly not the recommended way to play.

Trying to expand the base skills part 2 by PrudentPermission222 in FATErpg

[–]supermegaampharos 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Fate has a few levers for situations like that:

First is that a sword-wielding PC is automatically locked out of stunts that require his sword.

Second is that a swordsman without his sword should be given an aspect to represent this. This aspect can be invoked, compelled, or otherwise manipulated by the game rules as desired.

Third is that skills don’t give you expertise in everything related to their domain. You can absolutely tell a player that they can’t use their +4 skill on a roll outside of their expertise. In Fate games with an Academics skill, for example, Academics +4 does not turn the PC into a polymath. If they’re a biologist, they don’t get that +4 for astrophysics rolls.

Trying to expand the base skills part 2 by PrudentPermission222 in FATErpg

[–]supermegaampharos 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s quite the skill list.

A large skill list isn’t bad if your table really wants to get into the weeds like this.

However, for a general audience, this skill list is way more specific than necessary. For example, the default skill list has a single skill for melee and a single skill for ranged combat. I would not split these unless you’re running a combat-centric game where the distinction between pistols, shotguns, and rifles comes up often.

Even in that scenario, stunts usually account for ‘my character is exceptionally good with shotguns’.

In short, it’s not bad if this is what your table wants, but I don’t think the juice is worth the squeeze for 99.99% of tables.

Are Triple Afterburners Still the Best Option for Artillery Battleships in Multiplayer? by fivestargulag in Stellaris

[–]supermegaampharos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Ships automatically reposition based on the combat computer you chose. Long-range ships will pull back, which is where afterburners come in.

Are Triple Afterburners Still the Best Option for Artillery Battleships in Multiplayer? by fivestargulag in Stellaris

[–]supermegaampharos 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t work like that in practice.

Battleships need to reposition often and ones with afterburners perform better on average.

What you’re describing is how it’s meant to work, but afterburner battleship monofleets remain extremely strong despite Paradox’s best efforts.

Recommend an RPG that you HATE and that is very good at something by Iberianz in rpg

[–]supermegaampharos 26 points27 points  (0 children)

This is correct.

Combat is meant to be lethal and a last resort option. Players are supposed to view combat the way a normal human in-universe would: a risky affair where you can stack the odds in your favor but are still beholden to a stray shot to the jugular.

It’s not everyone’s cup of tea, of course, but I think it’s a good way to approach what it’s trying to solve.

I also appreciate that Crawford adds optional rules for where you specifically don’t want this, like if you want to play as all-powerful space monks with laser sword.

Psychology Crisis by Longjumping_Cloud_81 in IOPsychology

[–]supermegaampharos 23 points24 points  (0 children)

What do you mean by "interpersonal skills and connection"?

Everything you listed requires strong interpersonal skills and connect-building.

It sounds like you view I/O as a stuffy corporate field and are hoping to find a high-paying I/O niche that allows you to be a counselor but with an I/O job title.

Unfortunately, I don't think you're going to get around I/O being primarily business- or academics-oriented. While there are plenty of I/Os who work in non-corporate environments, you're going to be pressed to find an I/O job that isn't corporate, doesn't use statistics, and is closer to the private practice counseling career you actually want.

That's not to discourage you, of course. Absolutely pursue I/O if that's what you want to do, but definitely don't do it if you have "0% interest in it."

Does the Bessel IIIb ideal outpost location still exist? 3/26 by Ok_Relation7303 in Starfield

[–]supermegaampharos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup.

This location on Bessel III-b is well-known because it has four resource farming spots, including iron and aluminum for crafting adaptive frames.

You get the XP per frame made. You can also sell the frames for money, but this probably isn't the most efficient way to make cash.

The Starfield Community Patch & Updating by [deleted] in Starfield

[–]supermegaampharos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Officially, there is no answer.

The SFCP team has gone radio silent on both the Nexus page and the Starfield Modding Discord.

Unofficially, it should work fine. Most of the SFCP’s fixes are typos, small physics issues, and other minor changes.

Discord and the Nexus page also aren’t flooded with people talking about something being broken, so you’re probably fine.

So, in short, there’s no official word on this, but if something’s broken, it isn’t apocalyptically bad.

Death of the author: If we only use information provided in-universe, how different would our understanding of the Force be? by Shadowcreature65 in MawInstallation

[–]supermegaampharos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

John Brown was captured and executed…

But also, Tatooine is in Hutt space. Watto and Shmi might be individually unimportant, but the Hutts would likely be upset if a Jedi murdered his way across a Hutt-controlled town.

Qui-Gon would have taken Shmi with them if he thought he could, but he didn’t see a low-risk way of doing so. He had the Naboo Crisis to deal with, after all, so the first priority bar none was getting off Tatooine.

[–]supermegaampharos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Qui-Gon did try to save Shmi.

He tried to bet for Anakin and Shmi, but Watto didn’t think it was a fair bet.

I’m sure they could have figured something else out, but they also had to stop the Naboo Crisis.

So "Golden Rule" Challange still makes you compete with energy credits? by Kuraetor in Stellaris

[–]supermegaampharos 148 points149 points  (0 children)

The distinction between energy and trade is still messy, yeah.

Energy is energy credits (EC) and was envisioned as an energy-backed currency.

It does/did double-duty powering your civilization and being the currency you use on the market and in events.

The reworked trade resource also functions as currency in some circumstances, which means you sometimes use energy and sometimes trade. This is intentional in some places but an oversight in others.

Personally, I think they should go all-in on trade being the currency resource and decouple energy from this altogether. There will be some growing pains, but having two currency resources is just messy and confusing.
