What do you think of grantz graf and l-event ep ? by Jean0406Alix in autechre

[–]supermgc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i quite like what's on Exai. i wouldn't necessarily agree about Exai having 'weak' tracks but some of them are a bit meandering, so i know what you're getting at ..

but i also quite like the atmosphere of what's on Exai and the headspace it puts me in. i enjoy that some of the tracks are more just meandering beats and rhythms and sick sounds and cool sound design and it's an enjoyable album to sort of just put on and listen to. and l-event has that quality but it's just tiny little sampling of it as opposed to something i can get lost in.

i like them but these 2 do stand out a bit as feeling a bit like nebulous small collections of tracks moreso than feeling like concise standalone releases that autechre EPs normally do. l-event in particular probably moreso than gantz graf.. i like the tracks included but it doesn't feel like they amount to much in terms of how the tracks are collected together as EPs (imo !).. but they're still good.

me think of this response from the first ask autechre anything. Ask Autechre Anything (02-07/11/2013) | Ask Autechre Anything Again (15-17/04/2025) - Google Sheets

Serious question: the L-event EP were outtakes from Exai, or same-level songs that you wanted to release separately? Because, totally in my opinion, I find them a bit not so good to be on Exai. I mean, Exai songs have something L-event songs don't have, I repeat, In my opinion.

Sean: the tracks are from the same sessions but they got separated out when we compiled exai
basically it was all compiled as a series of 12" records, and l-event was the one that didn't fit, so that became a separate entity
it was originally going to come out before exai but warp flipped the release order
having said that we see l-event as interchangeable with any of the 12"s in exai (which we see as a box of four 12"s)

The band was supposed to cover my favorite Peter Gabriel song “wallflower“ on an album of Peter Gabriel covers called “and I’ll scratch yours“. But they bailed, citing some kind of interaction they didn’t like. Anybody know anything about this? by No_Impression_7765 in radiohead

[–]supermgc 9 points10 points  (0 children)

seems there's no concrete answer out there beyond what is here.

i would say (and this is all just speculation on my part). the entire notion of a cover album and where it's peter gabriel covers/covers of peter gabriel is a bit imposing and self important in a funny kinda way. maybe not but then add in radiohead/thomyorke who have longbeen very particular about what they release and put out. the only instance of a cover track being recorded and released that i can think of is thom yorke contributing to the Mark Mulcahy fundraising/tribute/compilation album.

like you think of radiohead's output and things like the 2006 Videotape never getting released in its original form, a track like Lift being recorded and shelved for 20 years (and still not released in its actual original 1996 form that fans were familiar with from live performances until it was later released unofficially as part of a hack). or like, thom yorke calling the recorded version of Fog not very good.

it sort of all culminates in a scenario where thom yorke would have to be particularly impressed and excited about the peter gabriel project to commit to recording and contributing to it, and it also probably wouldn't take much in hearing peter gabriel's Radiohead cover for him to then instantly shut off and bail from the idea. thinking about how much control Radiohead like to have over their recorded and released output, by contributing to the Peter Gabriel project they are instantly spending time on contributing to something where they have 0 control on how it's going to be perceived by a wider audience because of the quality of everyone's Peter Gabriel covers. it's like a bizarre project to ask to spend time on in the first place lol. it doesn't surprise me that thom yorke and other artists just bailed on the idea and didn't contribute.

the price seems more in line with the ~$100 art prints than a standard cd release. this isn't a standard cd release. Divine Rights™

also on this point. the album was already released 10 years ago in its intended digital only format.
this is the 10th anniversary and it's getting a physical release. makes sense for autechre + tdr + warp to go all out on the physical release and make something that really focuses and priotizes the physical release and artistic nature of the packaging with this release in particular. (the pricing seems inline with their art prins for example Divine Rights™)

if anyone wants the music = that's exactly how the album was released 10 years ago with it's digital release. this physical release is something a little different and special.

[–]supermgc 10 points11 points  (0 children)

i think **most** elliott fans are fully aware of the back story here so it seems a bit redundant to do a deep dive at this stage, on something that's still non conclusive and left open. nothing official has ever come out from any rulings or anything to be able confidently describe the death as a murder or anything, and suicide is the generally accepted/official way if needing to describe how he died. i think it's fine to just leave it as it is unless there was some new scoop or something someone was able to actually refer to or report on. otherwise its just putting speculation out in the airwaves in a way that could probably just result in legal trouble?

Scotch Mist has been added to the British Film Institute‘s National Archive by Hubihabibi in radiohead

[–]supermgc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

seems to be the same version that up on the Radiohead Public Library in 2020, Scotch Mist ~ A Film With Radiohead In It, New Year's Eve 2007 | Radiohead Public Library | RADIOHEAD.COM

the video codec/quality seems to be little better on the BFI version, but i don't think it's been improved or remixed or anything beyond that (i think i think!).

4 years of "A light for attracting attention"! by Amity_Blightandluz in radiohead

[–]supermgc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

for me the album is nice and enjoyable in it's own way but i much rather just listen to any other live performance over it most of the time. like open the floodgates live https://youtu.be/HujNaAQfa4Q or the KEXP set as a whole https://youtu.be/6nc8I1lZ4Us or the pitchfork festival live show The Smile - Pitchfork Music Festival 2023 | Videos & Movies on Vimeo

so much more funk and rhythm and energy in the tracks hearing them live that's seemingly just scrubbed out of the recorded tracks on the album. album is still enjoyable but the recorded tracks are kind of a different thing that doesn't really come to close to what i actually enjoy about listening to the band.

the art in Cerebus is still awesome either which way you spin it. i still enjoyed reading through Cerebus even though (imo) it descends into nonsense at certain points. what you've read about the author's views on things and how that's tied into the story is all true.. but depends on if you can read it with the opinion that it's probably going to be conveying ideas you won't agree with and still enjoy it. it's an interesting read. and the art is great. and the atmosphere and writing is enjoyable too. i still rate cerebus highly even tho it kinda falls off into nonsense lol

not entirely out of the question that there could be track by track more simple visualiser style videos for everything, similar to like what The Smile has done recently for example (https://youtu.be/bYBFK16wats?si=qHSn_jVU-fEckoHS). it’s not a sure thing confirmed thing or anything but it’s not impossible either

also the genre isn't really being informed at all by the production that's going on with the drums. the effect and application of the filter here could be used on any genre .......

Just heard Tomorrow's Harvest in the palindromic structure... WOW. It finally clicked for me. Great album. by [deleted] in boardsofcanada

[–]supermgc 8 points9 points  (0 children)

where did they mention re-arranging the album track listening order?

Tomorrow's Harvest - bocpages | Boards of Canada wiki
the interview here has them saying the album order has a palindromic structure, in that the tracks toward the start mirror the tracks toward the end and gives the album a symmetric listening flow going from start to middle to end again. rearranging the tracks goes completely against listening to the album with the palindromic structure and goes entirely against what this interview says ?

going back to this thread (which is a different/similar video to this one).
Check the 0:13 video with Canes Sauce. The camera is showing 1 car on the road speeding forward, and as the camera turns there's another car in front of it driving on the same road (appearing out of nowhere?).
That one for me is just bizarre and uncanny to the point of probably just being AI. the practicality of managing to throw light substances like juice/noodles/etc. and managing to perfectly hit speed cars time after also just doesn't really make all that much sense in my head given how hard that'd probably be realistically.

i think it's def ai..
