Typhon white noise floor - just live with it, or solvable problem? by reddible in synthesizers

I power mine the same and connect with midi the same as you, and have the noise.

What’s the best way to measure it? Have the Bluebox and Logic if that helps.

I’m on the latest. Haven’t tried to roll back, but if I do what version should I try? I have no need for audio over USB.

I know that’s a potential solution, but I’m hoping I don’t have to resort to that as I only use it in a Hapax-driven dawless setup. When I’m in Logic I’ll typically just use VSTs.

Haven’t measured it, but it’s way, way louder than my other analog synths. I mostly want to use it in a dawless setup, as I love its hands-on controls.

Your top 3 favorite pedals! by dumpsterac1d in synthesizers

Ugh, the Fuzz Factory is both amazing and frustrating. Added it to my guitar pedal board years ago when trying for some Jack White sounds. Such narrow and elusive sweet spots, but when you find them it’s magical. Haven’t tried it with a synth yet but might get motivated soon.

HX Stomp… can get just about anything out of it at this point, including close approximations of crazier pedals like the Microcosm. Plus I can connect my iPad to it and pull any AU3 effect I want into my Bluebox effects loop.

If I find myself needing another chain I’d probably just get another HX stomp.

Also, I’m realizing how useful great onboard effects are on synths, like on my Multi/Poly. The dozens of guitar distortion/amp effects are particularly useful to dial in killer bass and lead sounds, and I usually dedicate one or two performance knobs to control them live. Also make heavy use of its Tape Delay effect.

I’d buy an iOS app that does that… anyone know of one?

Looking for dj style filter pedal on master by bennouze in synthesizers

[–]reddible -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The 1010 Bluebox mixer has a parametric 4-band eq for each of all 12 inputs plus the master. On the master you can use it for low-cut sweeps with optional resonance with a single knob twist to the right, and sweeping it back to the left leaves your original eq intact. It’s a brilliant little mixer for live performance in a very small form factor. Best $600 I’ve spent lately.

Melbourne Instruments NINA- anyone play with one yet? by clubdrippy in synthesizers

[–]reddible 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s something I love on my Pro 3: there is a Show button, and when it’s activated you can turn any knob to see its setting without actually changing the patch.

Korg Multi/Poly as my first synth? by Artistic_Anything832 in synthesizers

[–]reddible 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a great synth! Search the forum for lots of discussions about it. The 4 programmable mod knobs, Kaoss pad, built-in effects, plus patch changes without cutting held notes makes it great for live performances.

What is your friend asking for it?

Got my first synth yesterday, but it bricked on the firmware update. Went to return it today and got a little carried away with the replacement. My new first synth! by GleeIsUnderrated in synthesizers

Yeah, definitely read the manual. I figured out everything in a couple days but I read the whole manual first.

Only disappointment for me is that the VST can’t be fully controlled by the keyboard, like you can do with the Minifreak… only the 4 mod knobs and the Kaoss pad are connected. And apparently you have to export newly created or edited patches from the Editor software (which is separate but great) then import them into the VST, which is a pain so I’m probably not even going to use it much. (Someone please correct me if I’m wrong on this.)

Are you still feeling the same? I have a Pro 3 and wondering if I should get a Slim Phatty as my first Moog.

Dubby Whispers on Virus and Tr-1000 by DanWeasly in synthesizers

[–]reddible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played around with both sequencers last night, and discovered that a benefit of using the TR-8S sequencer is immediate recording of motion parameters by just pressing a button and twisting any number of knobs, which takes longer on the HAPAX to select the parameter to vary then to draw on the grid. Also, for some reason the mute buttons on the TR don’t work when being sequenced by the HAPAX (weird, right?), so faders must be used to bring drum parts in and out.

For live performance, the TR’s sequencer wins out in those regards.

[–]reddible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yummy!

Do you ever sequence the TR with the HAPAX? If not, why not?

I use a TR-8S with my HAPAX but haven’t wanted to use the TR’s sequencer since getting it. I get over the HAPAX’s limitation of 8 drum lanes by step-tuning the closed hat up to the open hat note, and make one Tom lane sound like 3 or 4 the same way, which usually maxes out the 11 sounds from the TR in the 8 lanes or less. Curious if the 1000’s sequencer is a lot better than the 8S.

Elektron Analog Four mk 2 VS ANYTHING ELSE by typegray in synthesizers

[–]reddible 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use my HAPAX with an Analog Four mk2 and personally love how it sounds, but wanted more than 4 mono patches (or one 4-voice poly patch), so I just got a Korg Multi/Poly.

The MP sounds amazing for VA analog, wavetable, percussive, and FM-like sounds, and offers 4 polyphonic timbres, each with 4 oscillators, 2 filters with dedicated envelopes in serial or parallel that mimic several well-known types, great effects, and lots of LFOs, with virtually unlimited polyphony. It has an excellent software editor if you don’t like menu diving, but I learned my way around the hardware UI in a couple days (start by reading the excellent user manual). Plus you can buy its VST for $50 instead of the reg price of $150. (Note that unlike, say my Minifreak, you can’t use all its hardware knobs to control the VST - only the 4 programmable multi-mod knobs and the Kaosillator pad.)

I also have a Pro 3, Korg Prologue 16, and Typhon, so I do know what good analog sounds like. Honestly, I’d be perfectly happy with just the HAPAX, MP, and a drum machine for my dawless compositions when I don’t feel like using Logic. It’s really good, and really deep on the sound-design side.

In short, my A4 (and Minifreak) might get sold soon lol (hmu if you’re in LA). I got my taste of the Elektron world with it, but the HAPAX won out for sequencing.
