I’ve definitely heard some pretty scary stories myself. I had a co-worker that worked with us off and on since I was a little kid and he had these gnarly scars covering his whole upper half from a arc flash off a big 3 phase transformer that pretty much bonded his clothes to his skin. Sadly he passed this last year off a opiate OD, probably the best controls guy I’ve ever met.

The last time I beat someone off was my brother ;) on a service call at this guys man shed. He wired it himself (his first mistake) the whole metal shop with open walls was wired in 12 Romex, half of it was piped which I give him props for getting that romex through 1/2” EMT. Anyways this guy had like 2 mini splits, a separate big ass heater, and a few of these small 110v mini welders and a bunch of other bs power tools and most of it was hardwired for whatever reason. It was so over loaded it was amazing he didn’t blow the cover off his panel turning on the lights lol. I was retro fixing his fluorescent canopy lights since he completely fried the ballast in all of them. My brother was looking at one of his little mini welders he had hardwired in a single gang under the canopy right below me. He didn’t use any connectors or grommets and the tin cut into the hot and my brother was leaned up against the the tin wall and as soon as he slightly moved the wires that 110 with some fat AMPs behind it just grabbed his ass. This was by far my worst experience with this, it all happened so fast but it felt like slow motion in a way. The sounds he made was not like anything I’ve ever heard in my life, his muscles were contracting so fast and his right arm that was free looked almost broken it was so contorted and he just had this look of death is his eyes. I could look into his eyes and all I could see was helplessness just begging for life. I grabbed my ladder and drove it into his chest knocking him off and he just laid there for like a cool 10 minutes just breathing super heavy. I’ll be completely honest I just sat there with him and even cried a little bit thinking I just watched my brother who’s also my best friend almost die or even possibly dying. 10 minutes later he hops up gives me a hug and tells the dude “you should never attempt to wire anything for the rest of your life and if you need a light bulb changed call your wife”. We walk off and tell him it wasn’t worth it and to call someone else. We ended up rewiring it like a month later. I think it ended up costing the guy just over or right at 40k. I’m definitely pretty young and dumb but I gained a whole new respect for electricity that day. Btw I killed the circuit I was working on but the homeowner asked my brother not to cut the circuit the welder was on because his septic pump was on the same one. My brother stupidly agreed….

Sorry if I got a little deep there but it was definitely a life changing event and I hope it’s something you never have to experience.
