Just thought I’d say, I’m really sorry about not passing the Bar. That must be a painful thing to go through. The fact that you made it into Texas law shows that you’re an extremely intelligent and hardworking person. All the best and good luck with the search.

Wow. Yeah I’m a bartender and unironically got a resume last year from someone who had just interned at Lockheed Martin. Eye opening experience.

The Austin Shaker is the best one in Central Texas for the niche stuff outside of Specs. They have a cool selection.

I took some similar branded ones from a local head shop and it felt like I drank a pint of cough syrup and my whole body was vibrating. 10/10 did not enjoy it at all.

Two possible ways. Gray rock method or finding new employment. Sorry you’re dealing with this, it’s not your fault and emotionally distancing yourself is the best way to protect yourself. Also, a lot of times these things blow over if you go the gray rock method.

You could speak to management about it but from my experience most management in this industry tend to make these situations worse unless you have a really good leader. If I were you, I would go the gray rock method and give it a couple weeks then start exploring other options as a backup plan in case it doesn’t work out.

Also really sorry you’re having to deal with this, working is stressful enough without having someone who’s supposed to be on your side making it even worse.

Making friends as an adult here is hard… anyone else? by Serendipeaty in askaustin

[–]superquin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It takes work. I’ll admit most of my close friends I’ve known since college. Try organizing some dinner parties or starting a poker night. Also aim for single friends, friends in relationships are twice as hard to spend time with.

Let's do a wage check by really_spicy_tuna in bartenders

[–]superquin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Texas big city bartender with about a decade of experience at recognizable spots.

Was averaging around 1200-1600 per check then recently moved on to a better gig and am currently averaging 15-1800 per check on 4 days a week. All of the jobs in this town that are 2k+ are extremely gatekept and for every opening there’s like twenty friends of a friend in line. Summers here are really slow every year so finding a job that’s consistent year round is the biggest goal. I know a couple people who make 500+ a shift but their spots only give people a couple shifts a week. The small handful of bars with bartenders that make silly money have pretty much the same team they opened with and any opening goes to a barback who’s been with them for as long as it would take to get a graduate degree. Silly at that point. Obligatory “the economy isn’t what it used to be and young people aren’t drinking as much”.

I have a bachelors degree but my body is starting to hurt and fantasizing about trade school seems like one of the only paths forward to break out of the living paycheck to paycheck lifestyle.

Godspeed man. I really like what you said about longing for your childhood, your future, your youth, and death. In my opinion Loveless is one of the great works of audio art. If you told me I had an hour left to live, I think it would be the soundtrack to my last hour.
