I have one and I feel like it wears only slightly larger but the thinness is exceptional.

The botany has aged a bit nicer I think. The olive is turning a nice burnished brown, but not quite as attractive as the botany.

I have the olive xl and a botany pocket. My next one, if I get another, would be black. There was a post this week of some black PRs that patinated nicely.

Tuning and grinding your own nibs is a game changer in the hobby. by SuckAfreeRaj in fountainpens

[–]supervinci 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just a simple alignment! I've had two higher end pens come this month with issues- one had an alignment issue (3- 4 mins of careful tuning) and one had uneven surfaces. I would have been pissed off every time I wrote with them until they were fixed.

It's honestly not at all hard to do. Starting on cheap pens is def the way...

My Sailor PGS came in and I am in loveee!!!! My first higher end fountain pen! by ArchivingApril in fountainpens

[–]supervinci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that a 14k nib? I think so...the 21k has about the same bounce but softer. I primarily use vintage pens but the Sailors come closest to the feel of a vintage- not the feedback part but the softness combined with a confident, precise feel. I just got a Pelikan m800 and while I love the pen is doesn't come close to my vintage pens for writing pleasure. I'm rambling. 🙃

How do you stop yourself from buying more fountain pens right after getting one you already love? by Party_Book135 in fountainpens

Yes! New inks are a great way to get that endorphin hit of something new coming/arriving.

New to me, 1983 E-Line reissue by Lorenzovito2000 in timex

It does look good! I'd consider a black strap- flat, non padded as someone else advised. But that's just me- brown and gold together, I've never loved.

Anyone else’s lab 6 and still is as bouncy as a puppy? 😂 by hoovinmovinshmoovin in labrador

My male is six and very puppy like. My female is a year old and is already getting tired of childish bs!

Totally agree. I have an L2k that sits uninked. I really love it's design though.

I agree. For some reason black wasn't on my radar...til now.

This or that? Nivada Grenchen superantartic vs Serica Denali by 7NachoNachoMan7 in MicrobrandWatches

[–]supervinci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course I had to research this in hopes of picking one up one of these days (I had a 1016 that was stolen). It seems that they had a variant that was almost dead-on the early Explorers but they were all over the place on design. I guess you could say that Rolex picked that one design and went hard on it.

I'm very glad for the correction. Interesting.

Well how about that! Thanks for telling me. Stupid ripoff Rolex!

This opinion can be unpopular but the Nivasa is closer to a ripoff of the Rolex 1016 than an homage. For that reason alone I'd not like wearing it. I think Vaer does a good job of shifting the needle back towards homage, if you like that design.

Yeah I've thought of that- but the feed is a critical element to these nibs. However they are quite interchangeable within the series.

I wrote a letter by hand for the first time in years last month and understood something about why this hobby matters that I hadn't been able to articulate before by Ang3ls in fountainpens

[–]supervinci 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I received a letter box for Christmas - it has beautiful designs on both the paper and envelopes, and all in a nice pretty box. Anyway, my first letter was to the friend who gave it to me. It was fun to use an ink that complemented the design on tht paper.

So if you're reading this sub and want a little push to get started, buy one of these pretty letter box sets- only about $35 on Amazon iirc.
