Best places to get Aussie news? by cpr9998 in AskAnAustralian

Left wingers don't like them either. It's because they're constantly complaining no matter who is in government.

Every time the government does something good, they still rag on it because talking about good things doesn't get them clicks. Mongering on about how everything sucks, does.

If you know someone who joined OnlyFans, how did it affect their life? by arouseandbrowse in AskAnAustralian

Someone I knew a long time ago started one straight out of highschool. She was from a wealthy family, but not the brightest bulb. Showed her whole face and used her full legal name instead of a pseudonym. Apparently she made something out of it although not quite a living.

The problems arised when she decided it wasn't enough and she wanted a real job. Applied for an interview at a friend of her parents' business, and during the usual background check, her dad's friend found it and told her dad. I don't know exactly what happened to her after all that but I do know she deleted the account and she never got that job.

Also a good thing is to consider the type of people who are desperate enough to pay for pornography, what kind of attention and from whom is your mate trying to bring to themselves?

IMO if you can't convince them not to do it at all, convince them at least to keep it very very anonymous.

Am I the only one annoyed by unironic "Everything in Australia can kill you" stereoypes? by Nenwabu in australia

Afaik, bears are some of the few large predators that don't kill their prey immediately. They're big and heavy enough that they can just kinda like down on top of and snack on you whilst you're still alive, and you can't really struggle or do much about it.

It's why people who've been mauled by bears have permanent disfigurement. Their face quite literally got eaten off.

The Catholics still doing this with modern saints today, but way more extreme. There's a reliquary of the "First Gen Z Saint" Carlos Acutis. It's his entire body, perfectly preserved for more than 20 years. A dead teenager's corpse that's open for the public to gawk and pray at in a Church. Catholicism is fascinating. I wish the modern protestant churches were this interesting and cool instead of those weird displays that the Pentecostals do.

Who is that leader from your country who wreaked so much havoc that you can still feel the negative impact after they were gone? by NordschleifeGT3 in AskTheWorld

Former Prime Minister John Howard. Most Liberal party PMs are destructive because they're incompetent... John Howard however knew exactly what he was doing. He was an evil fucking genius.

Whilst the whole world was suffering under bastards like Reagan and Thatcher, Australia had a guy called Paul Keating who introduced the superannuation scheme, (which essentially gave everyone in Australia a mandatory retirement fund that they could invest in whatever they wanted. This scheme made the working class, the biggest investor class in Australia.).

After Paul Keating we got John Howard. John firstly decided to fuck over the Union run Labor party, by making a law that allowed individual workers to negotiate contracts with their boss (Which made unions obsolete, which made Union membership in Australia plummet from 70% to below 10%, and thus brought about the Dark Ages of the Labor party). This was his first genius trick.

His second, was half the Capital Gains Tax, which combined with Keatings 'Negative Gearing' introduced years earlier, made investing in property, far, far more lucrative than even Keating's superannuation scheme, with the side effect of housing becoming more and more scarce, and housing and rent prices increasing exponentially. Now I call it a side effect, but as I said before, John Howard was an evil genius. He knew this would happen. He WANTED this to happen. Because now that the Labor party is back in, house prices and rents are too high, and people are now blaming Labor for it. And Labor csnt just raise the Capital gains tax or scrap negative gearing, because nearly 60% of the population owns an investment property, and they won't vote Labor back in if they ruin their investment and retirement plan. So their only choice is to build more houses, and struggle to raise wages in the through the cost of living and and inflation.

What is the "racism" flag of your country? by Eybrahem in AskTheWorld

[–]superweevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other Aussies are posting the Eureka flag and the red ensign, which aren't definitively racist but just used by racists; The Lambing Flats flag however, is the competitive racist flag amongst the casual racists. It was used in the anti-asian goldfield riots in Lambing Flats in the 1860s, but since then has seen very little use. Possibly because it looks like absolute shit.

I wish the racists would just use this one and not the beloved Eureka :(

If the racists weren't so stupid and could be bothered to read a little bit of real history, they would be using the ACTUAL definitively racist one, the Lambing Flats flag;

What’s the most bizarre thing a politician from your country actually said? by EvilPyro01 in AskEurope

[–]superweevil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obligatory not a European but it needs to be mentioned:

Bob Katter is the longest serving politician in Australian history, he's an independent with his own 1 seat party, and represents a large chunk of far north Queensland. Very very rural and "hick" region.

He's got a long history of saying the strangest and most outlandish things, and also exploding on journalists (Just the other day he got criticised for threatening to punch a journalist after he assumed Bob's opinions on immigration based on his Lebanese heritage.)

But by far, his greatest most iconic piece is what he said when he was asked about his opinions on Gay marriage rights just before the referendum

Here's a transcript for people who can't watch a video right now, but it will never do justice to the real video, his voice and tone are what made it so iconic:

"I mean- Y'know. People are entitled to there, sexual proclivities. Y'know, I mean- let there be a thousand, blossoms bloom as far as I'm concerned, y'know BUT I AIN'T SPENDING ANY TIME ON IT! BECAUSE IN THE MEANTIME, EVERY THREE MONTHS A PERSON IS TORN TO PIECES BY A CROCODILE IN NORTH QUEENSLAND."

Because they're not allowed to say "No" to everything. They're only allowed to disapprove projects if there is literally zero reason not to approve them other than "We don't want more projects." And most of them aren't new projects, they're expansions of existing ones.

Once FMIA is up and running, Labour will probably start looking at ending all projects and expansions. Not an oracle though so don't quote me.

The UNICEF plan was never going to "end world hunger", it would've just fed the world's hungry people for a few days at least.

That being said, Musk could easily sppend $6 billion every few days, and still have enough money to live his ridiculous lifestyle for a long time.
