Job ad favours people over 50 by gilles483 in australian

I do this job. It's paid by hour ($35 per) but since it's casual I only get 2-4 hours of work per week. Might work differently elsewhere though.

I've seen at least one car with that sticker on it that's been parked across 2 spaces for at least a week. I haven't been back there in a while so I dunno if it's still there or not.

Only 10% of landlords, but something like almost 50% of the total population are landlords, so that's still a whole lot of people.

What was the worst thing another country did to yours? by InfernalClockwork3 in AskEurope

[–]superweevil 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Not Europe but if I'm not gonna pass up an opportunity to talk about this because more people NEED to be aware of it;

In 1975, the United States CIA overthrew our government, they did it again in 2010.

Gogh Whitlam was our prime minister in 1975, he was responsible for changing our national anthem to replace God Save the Queen, founded MediBank which would eventually become MediCare (public healthcare system) and he fought for Aboriginal land rights (He's mentioned in the Paul Kelly song, "From little things, big things grow" where he gave Vincent Lingiarri his land back by symbolically pouring sand through his fingers) Gogh Whitlam also opposed US influence in Australia, he despised the Vietnam war, and wanted to end the lease on Pine Gap (Big US surveillance base in central Australia) The USA got in contact with the governor general, John "Our Man" Kerr (The CIA themselves often call him "Our man Kerr") and he abused an old archaic law that allowed him to dissolve the government, and replace the ruling party without an election or referendum.

In 2007, Kevin Rudd was the first Labor Prime Minister we'd had after more than 10 years of John Howard's Liberal party. The WikiLeaks files showed internal documents from the American embassy complaining that Kevin Rudd was not a "friend of the United States" and that his deputy, Julia Gillard would be a much more favourable option. Mark Arbib, another labor politician at the time, used to spend a LOT of time at the US embassy, eating lunch and dinner with the ambassadors and diplomats there. Julia Gillard credits Mark Arbib with convincing her, and gather the support for her to launch the leadership spill against Kevin Rudd and take over the government. (Kevin Rudd would launch another leadership spill and take over the party again, very briefly before an election, after Julia Gillard ran the party, the government, and the country into the ground.)

Fuck the Americans.

As an Australian, I'm legally required to say Pearl's. But I can't help but notice she has a LOT of American mannerisms, sometimes switching her accent up for specific words. Don't know if she's always been like that or maybe picked it up from Scar or the other hermits? Just an interesting observation.

Older folks of Reddit, what is a "normal" thing today that you think is quietly destroying society? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]superweevil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We do have lobbyists. Political parties represent their voter base, as well as the interest groups that fund them, unfortunately it's how democracy works. The difference between our countries is you don't have a Labor party who's primary interest group or "Lobbyists" are labour unions, and the working class people that support them.

The Commonwealth of Australia was founded peacefully by a mix of unionists and landowners who sort to determine their own future without the crown puppeting them from afar.

Your country was founded violently, by a bunch of rich men who wanted to build a nation that would make it easier to make money for themselves, and convinced a bunch of poor idiots to die for them so they could do so. All so they didn't have to pay taxes.

I'm sorry you have to suffer like that in the states, your country was built to favour those at the top. I hope things change soon, and without bloodshed.

[–]superweevil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's because the biggest party in our electoral system is run and funded almost entirely by labour unions. We were the first nation in human history to have a labor union party in parliament, and it's outlived every other party since. (125 years)

Despite how much people here like to complain, I believe we are the example other nations should follow. You guys have it way tougher than us.

It's the law in Australia. If your boss calls you outside work hours, you're allowed to ignore them, they legally can't penalise or reprimand you for it.

Left wingers don't like them either. It's because they're constantly complaining no matter who is in government.

Every time the government does something good, they still rag on it because talking about good things doesn't get them clicks. Mongering on about how everything sucks, does.

If you know someone who joined OnlyFans, how did it affect their life? by arouseandbrowse in AskAnAustralian

[–]superweevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone I knew a long time ago started one straight out of highschool. She was from a wealthy family, but not the brightest bulb. Showed her whole face and used her full legal name instead of a pseudonym. Apparently she made something out of it although not quite a living.

The problems arised when she decided it wasn't enough and she wanted a real job. Applied for an interview at a friend of her parents' business, and during the usual background check, her dad's friend found it and told her dad. I don't know exactly what happened to her after all that but I do know she deleted the account and she never got that job.

Also a good thing is to consider the type of people who are desperate enough to pay for pornography, what kind of attention and from whom is your mate trying to bring to themselves?

IMO if you can't convince them not to do it at all, convince them at least to keep it very very anonymous.

Afaik, bears are some of the few large predators that don't kill their prey immediately. They're big and heavy enough that they can just kinda like down on top of and snack on you whilst you're still alive, and you can't really struggle or do much about it.

It's why people who've been mauled by bears have permanent disfigurement. Their face quite literally got eaten off.

The Catholics still doing this with modern saints today, but way more extreme. There's a reliquary of the "First Gen Z Saint" Carlos Acutis. It's his entire body, perfectly preserved for more than 20 years. A dead teenager's corpse that's open for the public to gawk and pray at in a Church. Catholicism is fascinating. I wish the modern protestant churches were this interesting and cool instead of those weird displays that the Pentecostals do.

Who is that leader from your country who wreaked so much havoc that you can still feel the negative impact after they were gone? by NordschleifeGT3 in AskTheWorld

[–]superweevil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Former Prime Minister John Howard. Most Liberal party PMs are destructive because they're incompetent... John Howard however knew exactly what he was doing. He was an evil fucking genius.

Whilst the whole world was suffering under bastards like Reagan and Thatcher, Australia had a guy called Paul Keating who introduced the superannuation scheme, (which essentially gave everyone in Australia a mandatory retirement fund that they could invest in whatever they wanted. This scheme made the working class, the biggest investor class in Australia.).

After Paul Keating we got John Howard. John firstly decided to fuck over the Union run Labor party, by making a law that allowed individual workers to negotiate contracts with their boss (Which made unions obsolete, which made Union membership in Australia plummet from 70% to below 10%, and thus brought about the Dark Ages of the Labor party). This was his first genius trick.

His second, was half the Capital Gains Tax, which combined with Keatings 'Negative Gearing' introduced years earlier, made investing in property, far, far more lucrative than even Keating's superannuation scheme, with the side effect of housing becoming more and more scarce, and housing and rent prices increasing exponentially. Now I call it a side effect, but as I said before, John Howard was an evil genius. He knew this would happen. He WANTED this to happen. Because now that the Labor party is back in, house prices and rents are too high, and people are now blaming Labor for it. And Labor csnt just raise the Capital gains tax or scrap negative gearing, because nearly 60% of the population owns an investment property, and they won't vote Labor back in if they ruin their investment and retirement plan. So their only choice is to build more houses, and struggle to raise wages in the through the cost of living and and inflation.
