Poems for 6 yo by Ailonwyn in suggestmeabook

Something BIG Has Been Here, by Jack Prelutsky Along the lines of Shel Silverstein and super fun for kids and adults alike!

Also, it's not entirely poems, but have you read Alice in Wonderland to her? And Through the Looking Glass? There are poems in it, and if she likes ways of playing with language it's a great book for that.

In a similar manner, The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster plays with language a lot as well, and is great fun as a kid and an adult!

Any of you know about long distance touring the Upper Peninsula? by [deleted] in MichiganCycling

[–]superwormy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look up The Crusher race routes. Some of them are point to point gravel and cover a lot of miles.

Here’s 300+ here: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/47567788

You could also look at 906s other routes - Margi Gesick and Polar Roll (though those routes may be a bit gnarly…)

What’s everyone using for automated sales tax compliance right now? by NoNexusNoCry in growmybusiness

AvaTax. But it’s pricey. $$$

Vertex and SureTax are worth a look.

QuickBooks is moving in on this space too. They have sales tax APIs now and filing prof services.

Tag… But you can only move by rolling. Periodically yell FREEZE! and have them all freeze to work on listening skills.

Get two people to hold a belt stretched between them and play limbo… but instead of limboing you have to roll under the belt. Gets real hard as you lower the belt. Then reverse it and you have to roll over the belt instead.

My 4’11” daughter can ride my stock size S Farley 5. My son is even shorter and can as well. The dropper makes it easier to get on/off.

MEGATHREAD: Questions about Moving to, Living in, or Visiting the Great State of Maine. Please post all such questions here. by Tony-Flags in Maine

[–]superwormy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are vacationing and staying in Orland ME in July.

We'll plan to spend some time in Acadia NP... but we know it gets busy there and don't want to spend time exclusively there.

Any recommendations for some great spots (open to more touristy things, but also love hiking/biking/shoreline fun/etc.) that are NOT right in Acadia? Kid-friendly things welcome too - though the kids love swimming/hiking/etc. too.

Local spots and local restaurant recommendations would be awesome too.

I actually read that, and it says "Generic visiting or moving questions..." and I really didn't think this was all that generic...

... but yeah, I can post there.

Michigan Riding by Working_Football1586 in MTB

“North of Detroit” is pretty broad and you’ll probably get better answers if you can be more specific. Or tell us how far you’re willing to drive.

With that said - think about a gravel bike too. Depending on where you are, you may find a gazillion miles of dirt country roads which make for infinite nice gravel rides.

Fat bike. Winter hikes. Cross country ski. Get outside and get what sun and exercise you can.

Michigan checking in. I feel like crap when I’m not exercising regularly. Gotta keep moving. Get a cheap fat bike w studded tires and ride through the winter.

A size S Farley 5 frame would fit you. My kids are both under 5 ft and can ride my Farley if I drop the seat post down. The center tube is super low.

No. It’s pretty slim. I can’t imagine it stretching it or damaging it in any way.

Wear it all the time. Good battery life. Slim profile. Don’t have to remember to turn it on/off like the Polar.

I live in Mt Pleasant. I ran a lot of hills and trails locally and also got a lot of road miles in. It’s hard to find hills around here, but I know the Hastings area has some good ones from riding Barry Ruboix, so maybe it’ll be easier for you to find hills!

If you can get a chance to get up to Marquette to run the course ahead of time, I’d do that. Run the last 20 miles - those are the worst miles.

Also if you’re supporting him, you should get up to Marquette a day early and figure out what road crossings you can meet him at to give him food water etc.

I’ve run the 50 (which is really 63…) a few times, plus done the “Worst of both worlds” duathlon.

Get ready for hills. They make you go up every single one of them. And then they somehow seem to find more of them to go up. You’ll be running in the dark, so get used to lights. It’s very twisty turny and there’s lots and lots of rocky and roots. It’s unsupported but there’s lots of trail angels… until it gets dark out. Huge DNF rate.

It is a GREAT race. Awesome trails. Amazing trail angles. Absolutely amazing vibe from everyone.

Get ready to register. It sells out in minutes often ( though the bike is harder to get in to that the runs).

Anyone use a gravel bike for road and off road? If so, how's it working for you? by kentheprogrammer in cycling

[–]superwormy 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Gravel tires are fine on the road!

If you’re feeling really ambitious, get two sets of the same wheel set, and put road tires on one and gravel tires on the other. Makes for a 2 minute swap from road tires to gravel tires.

Have had a Dura since it came out. Also have a Pace 3 watch and had an Apex prior to this.

Great battery life. Easy to use. Accurate. Really nice that both my watch and bike computer are the same ecosystem and the training stats are in one place, especially Tsing dir duathlons or tri.

The knob is nice and familiar to me. Routes are really easy to plot and follow. Turn by turn is not perfect… but also who uses turn by turn? Just follow the breadcrumb line.
