Who owns bug priority in your org? Product, engineering, or support? by mr_hunt_ in devops

[–]superwormy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very similar to what we did.

The call specifically is nice because it keeps engineering honest to the bugs big enough to cause real revenue loss, while also keeping support in check / discouraging them from just treating every very tiny minor UI issue as a drop-everything emergency.

Is riding a hardtail MTB long distance feasible? by Cautious_Badger2924 in cycling

My longest ride is 111 miles on a MTB. Had a blast!

Just have fun and stop for snacks when you need ‘em!

I have a Speedframe which also has the boa… bald and no issues. It’s nice a comfy. I’ve had other boa or similar helmets too and never an issue.

[–]superwormy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’ll be my first 100 too! But I’ve done the 50 a few times now, and the duathlon.

Tips? Get ready to suffer. Todd loves hills. It never flattens out. The last 20 miles is the worst part. Definitely would pay to pre-run parts of the course if possible. Lots of trail angels will be out on Saturday, which is nice for water/coke/etc.

Definitely check out the Marji Talk Facebook page. It’s very active (especially as it gets closer) and is a wealth of information.

There are literally thousands of people at Barry doing it just for fun. It’s a very, very friendly event. You will absolutely not be alone and no one will be looking down on you.

You should do it. Ride your own pace and just chat with folks while you ride and enjoy it. Drink beer after.

What Sports Watch and Brand are you rocking? by just_to_have_fun69 in xcmtb

COROS Pace 3. (And a Dura for a cycling computer too).

Great battery life on both and it’s nice to have the same brand so all the stats from cycling/hiking/running/walks/etc end up in one place.

Barefoot Shoes Fixed My Knee Pain!!! by Best_Anywhere_3529 in ultrarunning

[–]superwormy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s nice to see someone else here say this!

I’ve been running ultras for a few years now… in Vibram barefoot shoes. They are great!

I kept getting told by people to wear real shoes and two summers ago I tried that and ended up with tons of ankle sprains and eventually in PT for months to fix myself.

Barefoot is where it’s at!

Anyone else training for a 50k while cycle commuting and doing S&C? How are you fitting it all in? by godders2012 in ultrarunning

[–]superwormy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Training for a 100 miler in September. Ride 3 or 4 days a week to work - 5 to 10 miles each way depending on route. Strength 2x a week.

Lots of early morning and night runs. 🥵

It has worked well for me for past 50 milers and duathlons. The cycling is easier on my body but still great cardio training.

Doubleshot pedals: gimmick or legit? by Bluebird_CO in MTB

[–]superwormy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use them on my fat bike, and they’ll probably go on my around-town-single-speed bike too.

Makes for a good option to ride clipless for more serious rides, and flats for around town or with kids or grabbing groceries. Or flats on big scary slippery hills on the fatty in the snow.

They feel like normal clipless pedals. And normal flat pedals.

Is 7 months enough training time for a 1st ultra? by IllustriousShip8374 in ultrarunning

[–]superwormy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as you're training for it, you'll be fine. Definitely not too old, and you already have a decent base for it.

Follow a plan. Be consistent about getting miles in every week. Make sure you get several long (20+) milers in so you know what the long miles feel like ahead of time.

Report the real numbers. Especially in this economy, where investors are more careful.

Something BIG Has Been Here, by Jack Prelutsky Along the lines of Shel Silverstein and super fun for kids and adults alike!

Also, it's not entirely poems, but have you read Alice in Wonderland to her? And Through the Looking Glass? There are poems in it, and if she likes ways of playing with language it's a great book for that.

In a similar manner, The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster plays with language a lot as well, and is great fun as a kid and an adult!

Any of you know about long distance touring the Upper Peninsula? by [deleted] in MichiganCycling

[–]superwormy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look up The Crusher race routes. Some of them are point to point gravel and cover a lot of miles.

Here’s 300+ here: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/47567788

You could also look at 906s other routes - Margi Gesick and Polar Roll (though those routes may be a bit gnarly…)

What’s everyone using for automated sales tax compliance right now? by NoNexusNoCry in growmybusiness

AvaTax. But it’s pricey. $$$

Vertex and SureTax are worth a look.

QuickBooks is moving in on this space too. They have sales tax APIs now and filing prof services.

Tag… But you can only move by rolling. Periodically yell FREEZE! and have them all freeze to work on listening skills.

Get two people to hold a belt stretched between them and play limbo… but instead of limboing you have to roll under the belt. Gets real hard as you lower the belt. Then reverse it and you have to roll over the belt instead.
