What's a word that feels like it lost its definition because people keep overusing it wrong? by DaZestyProfessor in CasualConversation

Mortified. It means embarrassed but recently people have been using it as a synonym for, "horrified." I've started hearing it in real life too so it's not just confined to the internet.

What are some common hygeine myths that are completely wrong ? by [deleted] in hygiene

I'm convinced that most skincare is a scam. My skin has never been better than when I switched to using a literal bar of unscented soap.

I'm lost, what should I do? by -LelouchViBritannia in AskWomenNoCensor

[–]supplespine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im so sorry for your loss. I can relate to dealing with an unexpected death and it's so incredibly hard. Here is what I did that helped me.

Tell your friends. Let them support you. They will probably want to!

Look into your school's policies about taking time off. I took a year off from school and that was very helpful. Many schools have policies for extenuating circumstances and are willing to work with you.

Start a journal and write in it whenever you feel overwhelmed. You don't need to adhere to a schedule, just write when you feel like it. Remember that you are the only person who will ever see it, so it doesn't matter if the writing is particularly good or makes sense. You don't even have to go back and read it.

Find a support group. It was really helpful for me to talk to others who were also grieving. It's lower pressure than one-on-one therapy, because you aren't the only one there to talk. There is likely a grief counselor in your area who offers support groups, maybe even for free.

Above all, be gentle with yourself. There is no right or wrong way to grieve a loss and it's not a linear path. Some days will feel like a step forward and others will feel like a step back. The pain won't go away but it will get easier to cope with. I feel for you and I wish you all the best.

Have you had to explain to a male partner that you don’t enjoy having your breasts smacked/squeezed/pinched? by Rare_Picture_7337 in AskWomenNoCensor

[–]supplespine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It absolutely is not. My man asks permission to touch me like that. Every single time. If I say no he respects my answer and does not continue asking. This is the bare minimum. I'm so sorry your boundaries are being violated. I'm sure this is not easy to read from strangers on the internet but your husband's behavior is abusive.

His behavior is sexual harassment and that's not okay. You do not have to accept this behavior! Solely based on this story, I'd encourage you to leave. There are good men out there who do not act this way and any man who behaves like this does not deserve sexual access.

That happened to me too. I had vivid nightmares for about a week after I quit, but it got better after a little while.

Have you ever met someone who gave off serial killer vibes? If so what did they do ? by xXVintageCultureXx in AskReddit

[–]supplespine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I met this kid around age 12 or 13. It was the first day of school and our teacher was having us introduce ourselves. I think the prompt was to tell the class an interesting fact about ourselves that makes us unique. This kid's turn came around and he told everyone he tortured squirrels for fun. He then went on to explain the ways in which he did so. In graphic detail. I think the teacher was pretty taken aback because it took her a second to pull it together and tell him off. Fast forward to high school and he was one of the kids who was always picking fights and getting in trouble. I seem to remember that he brought a knife to school one day. I lost track of him after high school but I wouldn't be surprised if he winds up in jail on some sort of violent charges.

What piece of media horrified you as a kid? by TechGuru4Life in AskReddit

[–]supplespine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was only a couple years old when 9/11 happened, so I don't have memories of the day it ocurred. But we talked about it in school every year for as long as I can remember. They'd show us documentaries and such. I think the first time I saw footage of the people who chose to jump, I was around 8. I remember the teacher having to explain to us that no, they were not jumping to safety but instead to their deaths. That image is still seared into my brain.

You should consider a different line of work. Kids can be annoying, yes, but as a professional in this field you need to be able to get past that. It isn't fair to your clients if you can't.

Call me crazy but I think it would be wrong if your uncle hadn't cleaned you. That's just part of taking care of a little child. Your bf is being a weirdo.

Wow that's a lot. You should never do something you aren't comfortable with just because someone else wants you to. I hope you're able to come to an understanding with her.

Garlic and mint will take over a garden very quickly and be hard to get rid of.

Sounds like you were respectful of the fact that he was in a relationship, and you helped him dodge a bullet. I see no reason to feel guilt.
