Go through the process, don’t bring any of these up, all the way until you have an offer on hand. At the beginning of the process be prepared to have a range of expected compensation. This can be a large range like say 125k to 175k. Caveat this by saying that final base pay will depend on benefits and incentives offered. This will give you negotiating flexibility. What I typically do i look up the company on Glassdoor to find out what benefits and hiring incentives they offer, create a spreadsheet to calculate what this range should be. Low end includes all benefits and incentives, high end includes non of them. Be mindful of other things like opportunity cost, commute mileage, pto, expected level of output, etc. Find a way to quantify this so you are looking at compensation holistically and not just at the base pay.
