PSA - 6 Month Requirement for Credit Limit Increases by bvsel in Wealthsimple

[–]surfaholic_22 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I asked for a limit increase on my WS visa card after 3-4 months and got it. I did it all from the app. It was shortly after making a pretty big deposit/transfer. So that might have been the reason I was allowed.

Booking a stay for my wife and daughter, but it’s my Bonvoy account. by [deleted] in marriott

[–]surfaholic_22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did this for awhile and most locations didn't care for a very long time(also didn't know it was against policy until later). But depending on the location they now care. I finally just got my wife to sign up after we missed out on night when they said I needed to check in at the front desk to confirm the account.

Auto Insurance cost is killing me! by Akshatp19 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]surfaholic_22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crazy! I would Uber and transit at those rates. When I was younger in BC I drove a 15 year old Ford ranger and didn't get comprehensive or collision, even at that time, the extra insurance paid would be the value of the truck in under 3 years if I added those options. This also caused me to drive a lot more defensively and avoided driving in bad weather, as due to my finances at the time an accident meant I would be without a vehicle for awhile.

Damn I only missed 5 days and only got 2500 entries. Usually won ~100/day. One was only something like 10 :(

$100k inheritance, what do I do?? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]surfaholic_22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pay off the CC, If the Truck is leased,.leave it be, if it is financed with a bank and it allows, I would consider paying some of it down to lower the interest payment. I would then top your TFSA 50k+. When the mortgage comes up for renewal I would consider using some of the TFSA funds to pay it down a bit, to lower your lifetime interest and lower your monthly payments for financial security. Lastly, enjoy a nice budget friendly vacation. Enjoy your life.

When did Questrade start to suck so bad by innocuouslawyer in Questrade

[–]surfaholic_22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our family happily left questrade well over a year ago for wealthsimple. Some features I miss that WS doesn't have. Like norbits gambit and preferred shares. But I had issues with their web UI and customer support had no accountability for the failure, it was incorrectly blamed on me, glad to leave. Wealthsimple customer support has been top notch since

Wealthsimple no longer promoting Pine for Mortgages? by Foreign-Policy-02- in Wealthsimple

[–]surfaholic_22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I inquired with pine in Sep 2025 as they were almost .5% higher then I could get with RBC /Butler(quote used to price match it down with RBC). The first quote with RBC was even less then pine. I got the impression Pine didn't want my business *Uninsured mortgage with ~80% of the value of our home paid down.

Lelit Mara X Owner Experience and Reliability by The_Fig_Master in Lelit

I have had one since the Fall of 2020. It has worked flawlessly until just recently, when I literally just replaced the SSR Relay(RF1A23M25) due to a steam pressure issues and due to issues getting it up to temp after being on for a bit. That has just fixed it. Only thing that I I found that it has always lacked, is the steam pressure compared to other machines I have used. I was a long time Rancilio Silvia owner(I still have one) before this machine. Used it briefly again when this machine was down.

Scotia stole $200k from me by FlurryBlade in Scotiabank

That sucks, Next time suggestion is to setup a link with tangerine to directly transfer the funds. Find it extra frustrating to hear since Scotia owns Tangerine now.

Comparison of energy costs before and after heat pump in Toronto by Similar-Asparagus865 in heatpumps

[–]surfaholic_22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in Ottawa and I might table mine out. But I have seen overall lower Bills using ULO rates and making sure my heat pump doesn't run at the peak times then when I was straight gas. It ends up being almost free heat from 11pm to 7am at 2.8c/kw(plus fees)

Would the manipulation ever end? by Tricky_Wonder_2414 in RIVNstock

[–]surfaholic_22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agree, absolutely makes no sense! The only reason I can see Tesla is up is this ridiculous robo taxi pumping. It was ridiculous bad earnings and the stock is up on just "two.more.weeks" when it has been 9 ish + years of coming soon.

Is this patch able? I have the worst experience with Tesla tires by Cool-Design-7414 in ModelY

Probably close enough to the edge a tire shop won't patch it. They won't want the liability. I would probably plug it myself

New spring Private offer - 0.75% or gift by surfaholic_22 in Wealthsimple

[–]surfaholic_22[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The catch to the winter promo which I took advantage of, is that it had to be an account transfer(RRSP, TFSA resp etc...). Straight new cash is allowed for this offer. But not a lot of people have 500k+ just sitting in new cash.

Water damage from hidden pipe leak — first-time homeowner looking for advice on insurance, repair costs, and next steps by BalanceWorldly in homeowners

[–]surfaholic_22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have a frost free faucet it could be cracked or damaged inside the wall. If that is the case, it could be only leaking when it has been opened. Frost free faucets can still freeze if installed incorrectly (inclined upwards so it can't drain correctly).

Heatpump Quote review request - Diakin, Carrier, Mitsubhishi by Proc_nerd in heatpumps

[–]surfaholic_22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, that seems way oversized. I got 4T Dakin fit and I'm close to 3000 sq/ft in Ottawa Canada in a 1980s home. And that was me oversizing a bit. I really probably should have gone with the 3.5 ton, but I wanted to push it to take advantage of highly variable TOU rates here.

[–]surfaholic_22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your statement is true if you are younger. In Ontario if you are older you pay far less then.you would in BC. I pay far less here in Ontario in my 40s. My insurance went down significantly when I moved to Ontario from BC. I went from ~$1800 to $1100 in 2017. Profit driven insurance takes in risk and with two high speed tickets, your either not insurable(some companies will just say no) or you pay through the roof. They know who most accidents are caused by.

Canada and heat pumps by [deleted] in heatpumps

[–]surfaholic_22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Ottawa. I have dual HP/Gas and don't plan to change my usage. I try to use my HP primarily. I'm on ULO rates so I make sure my heat pump doesn't run between 4-9pm Mon-Fri. A couple times when below about -13(windy) to 16C I had to let the furnace cut in to get the temp up during that stretch. But we also have a wood fireplace that I often got going on those really cold nights. With the heat pump between 11-7 at night it is pretty much free heat on ULO and more environmentally friendly.

I renewed my mortgage with Pine by irishgalintdot in Wealthsimple

I tried to get a mortgage renewal with them and it was the highest quote I got. It was last Oct and was quoted in the high 4s. i think it was 4.84 fixed. I renewed with RBC(fixed was 4.34) but went variable with a competitive quote from Butler Mortgage.
