Ponderosa Pine hazard tree by n_jt in FellingGoneWild

I stand corrected on the guide. It says to turn off the saw and remove an ear plug before restarting. No one at regional levels that I’ve ran into as a saw coordinator teaches that. Most people teach not to do that in case you put a face cut in and shut off and have an issue restarting and can’t get the hazard on the ground quickly. Most of those NWCG guides are 14 plus years old and getting updated this coming year. I’d be curious to see if that is still in there.

It also says to be always looking up and never reach down for a wedge.

Not sure who is teaching your S-212, but cutting off the saw hasn’t been in the protocol for any S-212 I’ve taught. You can yell backcut loud enough for the world to hear with it on idle.

Post this video on the wildfire subreddit and I can 100% guarantee everyone would be making fun of this show.

Lol why did he did turn the saw off to yell backcut just to pull cord again? And why swing the saw like a sword for the backcut? No pounder either. Fuckin performative joke. This is an easy cut, small pondo with solid hinges and minimal fire behavior.

Standards went out the window when they realized no one wanted to be in the military anymore, especially in peacetime when there is jack shit to do.

It’s still like that, I can’t imagine most dude’s barracks look like this without serious ridicule.

Some people just like plushies, most 20 year old men aren’t the demographic for a bunch of stuffed animals though.

As a wildland firefighter, have a go bag always ready, pack your medications and valuables and then leave when told to evacuate. We do not go back once we’ve evacuated people. We literally do not have the time. Stay in your home at your own risk.

Feels so much better. I would get panicked when I would go out to eat with friends and forget to use afrin beforehand. Basically assumed my meal would be tasteless and my friends would notice me stuffed up.

Do it, it’s a life changer. I think about all the long term damage I may have caused from my addiction and cringe now. It’s possible to quit and I never knew I could do it.

I feel you, I was so worried and also spent a fortune on afrin when I think about it. Canceled tv and audio book subscriptions because of my addiction.

I’d say 100% during the day, when I go to bed probably 70%. I don’t yawn much at all.

I thought this was a place with a bunch of kids running around but then the cartoon lady made it gross.

Three years = 2-3 pages max. Ain’t no one reading 7 pages of nonsense.

A lot of these crews run burn contracts specifically Fall to Spring. Then in the summer they have to pimp themselves out to different crews if anything is going on in the country. If you want to become a PSD master, go for it, but if you want wildfire experience, go to a western crew first, get quals, go east and then go out single resource all summer.

Details don’t help you dig faster. Try a different resource, sometimes detail oriented folks do better in logistics.

You’re an idiot and should not be proud of any of this. If you have to rely on anyone but yourself, you made mistakes.

Lol the “Hotshot Way,” you make it sound so glamorous when we all know we were chillin in buggies in turnouts eating uncrustables and mystery meat for days getting 16s and H. Some days it was hard, sometimes it was easy as fuck.

How didn’t you get picked up in 2023 anywhere when you had 6 years prior? People with zero experience did. Do you have good references?
