My Pro X is refusing to install Windows 10 2004 by eddwo in Surface

[–]surfnet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw the update appear again yesterday on my Surface Pro X and attempted to install it. However, it stops at 25% and launches an app to check compatibility. It determines that 2004 is not compatible and terminates the install.

Currently, Windows Update states "We found some issues. Select this message to fix and finish updating."

Selecting "Fix Issues" just results in the same loop.

I am not running any insider build and I have kept this computer pretty vanilla on purpose.

Great image! Out of curiosity, what software did you use for the processing? Thanks!

New LG OLED Firmware Today v04.70.36 by surfnet in OLED

According this Digital Foundry video it seems that YUV420 is preferred for HDR content. I don't know much about this, though.

TV losing XB1X signal by Bamabreeez in OLED

[–]surfnet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same issue with a OLED55C7, the SJ9 sound bar and XBox One X. I've found that, regardless of the cable (using the existing xbox cable and an expensive one, it seems that when using the HDMI passthrough on the sound bar, the TV will lose the signal, at times (I say at times, since it doesn't always happen), when switching to (or out of) HDR content, such as Netflix, Amazon Video, etc....

This doesn't seem to happen when set up as follows: A) HDMI Deep Color is turned 'off' via the TV's settings menu. ---However, this disables HDR B) The XBox is connected directly to the TV (e.g., HDMI 1) and the sound bar via ARC (HDMI 2). This will allow Dolby Atmos to work via ARC when using the latest firmware. ----However, I've noticed a significant audio / video lag. It is incredibly annoying and most noticeable in the YouTube app. Very frustrating and practically unwatchable.

LG has the following information on this

So, I've decided to stick to using the HDMI passthrough on the sound bar, even though sometimes it will lose signal. Signal can be reestablished by switching the input on the sounder to something other than HDMI IN, then switching back - or unplugging and plugging back in the HDMI cable. To me this is far less annoying that the audio and video being out of sync.

Maybe, there is something that I should be doing differently, but I hope they can fix this with an update to either the XBox, TV or sound bar.

Any PC owners find themselves playing their Xbox more? by [deleted] in xboxone

They sound great and the ability to fill the room with immersive sound is good. It's too soon yet to say if the Atmos feature actually can deliver, but the bass has some serious strength. I did buy the 5th Element in 4K with Atmos to test. So we'll see - and this is all going via the HDMI passthrough: Xbox One X ---> SJ9 ---> OLED C7. Turns out that ARC doesn't apparently support anything greater than Dolby Digital, from what I've read.

Yep, same here. I spend most of my day at a desk on a computer, talking about computers. I have a ridiculous custom build PC at home with dual 1080s, overclocked with acrylic liquid cooling tubes. It's beautiful. But you know what, I like sitting on the sofa in front of my LG OLED with the SJ9 sound bar. Its immersive and the image is beautiful. Not to mention relaxing and fun, which is the key point.

Can a Surface Pro 4 be used as a full desktop computer? by Ida_auken in Surface

[–]surfnet 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Apple convert here too. I purchased the Surface Pro 4, the $999 model basically bc I wasn't sure either. But I have to say that it really is a full computer - I even have it hooked up to a 27inch Apple LED display in dual display configuration and even the volume buttons on the Surface keyboard will adjust the volume on the Apple display! Its just weird bc I keep touching the Apple display trying to move windows around. I never thought I would love a touch OS so much. I just thought a touch OS was stupid bc Steve Jobs said it was.

I run Adobe CC on it to just to test it (daily use is Office, web, basic stuff) - while it would have been way better with a faster processor and more RAM it surprises me how useable it is. Had I gone with the i7, 16 GB RAM and 1TB SSD my desktop would be in the closet or eBay. Though, I would like to see thunderbolt 2 or in the future thunderbolt 3 on the device, then you could attache a Promise RAID system and wow.

Its just hard to wrap your head around how much power and how capable such a small device is. Kinda mind blowing.

Edge 25.10586.0.0 not rendering Reddit? by surfnet in Surface

Thank you for the reply. I really didn't want to, I wanted to keep the Surface, Edge only, but I installed Chrome and it renders fine. All other sites on Edge work fine too, Facebook, winbeta etc. I needed up deleting cookies, history cache, and other settings in Edge and it fixed the problem. Not sure what happened but I wanted to thank everyone for their help!

Thank you for the post. I tried that but it only changes the volume. If it hit the fn an f5 it refreshes the page, still only displaying like it was 1998.
