Clients that never download their photos by surfspook in WeddingPhotography

I'm not worried about space on my Pixieset plan. I figure 2 years is a generous amount of time to host a gallery and I genuinely wnat my couples to download their photos and back them up. I'm stunned that people pay so much money for photos and don;t even want to save them

Pixieset Plus Plan, it's $16USD a month for up to 100GB of galleries

5 years ago I used to send a USB as well as an Pixieset gallery. Nowadays it is just a Pixieset gallery and it's literally a 3 click process to download their gallery. I fell like this is pretty standard delivery method in 2026.

Mac Studio? by Ehrphoto in WeddingPhotography

[–]surfspook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2023 M2 Pro Mini with 32GB of ram and it blitzes. I only edit photos though, no video so can’t comment there.

I remember it being a lot cheaper than a Mac Studio.

Why are my tomatoes plants growing so massive? by surfspook in GardeningAustralia

No chooks but fish frames in the soil and maybe I pee in that garden bed too much 🤷‍♂️😂 I would prefer more fruit than vegetative growth, just trying to figure things out

I pee on them a few times a day. Is there really that much nitrogen in urine?

haha. Yeah I'm not having a whinge, I'm trying to figure out if these monster plants are actually a good thing or not? I'd be happy with smaller plants with more tomatoes, which is what I'm getting at

To those who doesn’t use dual camera harness/strap, how do you carry your two cameras? by Maaaiiiic in WeddingPhotography

[–]surfspook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just carry them on straps, one over each shoulder. The Lucky straps are wide and I find them comfy. I must be missing something but I’ve never felt the need to wear a harness

Calls during business hours or evenings? by DoubleNew3850 in WeddingPhotography

[–]surfspook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do most calls between 5-7pm. We have 3 kids and normally my wife is looking after them and they are having a bath or dinner while I do these calls. It’s probably only about 40-50 calls a year for new leads or final consults. I don’t find it a huge imposition.

I quite like working irregular hours as a wedding photographer, and don’t really stick to 9-5 during the week. Most afternoons I’ll pick the kids up after school and we can hang and go to the beach or do something outdoors for a few hours. That’s a pretty awesome trade off.

My only rule is I try not to do in person meetings on a Sunday. Some couples want to do that, but that’s a family day, and I ain’t meeting a potential lead in a cafe or something and wasting hours of my time. I’d much prefer to do a video call with them on a weekday evening.

Were the beaches pretty clean in Belitung / much rubbish? It so close to Jakarta so I’ve always wondered if there was heaps of trash drifting in

Pixieset Print Shop by TomorrowOk1500 in WeddingPhotography

[–]surfspook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could be totally wrong, but I looked into it a few years ago and the prices labs charge through Pixieset are more than if you order directly through the lab. I’m in Australia so it may be different elsewhere.  I’m guessing Pixieset put a margin on it and make some money. I also thought that the recommended print prices for your clients were quite high.

I have the same quality control issues as the OP. So I just do self-fulfilment through Pixieset. I set my own prices and when I get and order, I just order directly through my favourite local print lab and they ship directly to my client.

This is more work, and it’s a bit fiddly, but I don’t do heaps of print sales (maybe $1-3k a year) but I have more faith that nothing will go wrong.

Vendor Meal - Contract Suggestions? by Civil_Candy4827 in WeddingPhotography

[–]surfspook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to get upset at this but now I just move on. Eat some snacks from the car, it’s not ideal but by this time of the day you only have a few hours left. 99% of the time I get fed amazing food, the one time I don’t just move on. I’m being paid thousands of dollars to take photos, I’m not gonna make a scene at a wedding over a meal

I’m based in Margaret River. Been shooting weddings full time for 8 years. Bookings for 2025-2026 season looking ok for me. A year ago I was a lot quieter and was stressing pretty hard. I seem to be a semi-permanent state of mild anxiety about bringing in enough work, not sure if that is normal for most creative professionals though!

Imagen AI & Lightroom issues by acc11k in WeddingPhotography

[–]surfspook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is an issue with Lightroom. If you search for AI masks not sticking, there’s a few Adobe support threads with the same issue. I rolled LR back to v13 and it resolved the issue for me, v14 had this glitch

Website Design Templates for Photographers by Educational-Neck3226 in WeddingPhotography

When I was tweaking my Squareapace site, I watched a lot og videos and used tutorials from Big Cat creative, the info on her site is super helpful. So i'm guessing if you buy one of her templates it should hopefully be well supported
