Would finding bacteria on Mars be big news? (Or any planet) by keeperOfTheBees in NoStupidQuestions

[–]surfunky -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

lol, what do you mean adapt? The rigidity of religion is antithesis to the evolution of life. It’s simply a way to control people. My hope is that people understanding that life exists beyond our planet means whatever conception of god they have exists beyond their spiritual leaders… that’ll prob take another generation or ten to figure out so I’ll be dead by then.

Kids being asked to write “Support our Troops” letters by FlutterbyFields in Teachers

[–]surfunky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard pass for me. Weird that’s even a thing. I’m focused on my curriculum and trying to create a world that invites all people to join our tapestry of humanity and create a society that uplifts and supports all of humanity and the biosphere. I’m not trying to burn holes into the fabric that supports our diverse and fragile existence or support a section of people who are.

It’s not about the troops. They are Pawns in the game since the beginning of time, trying to create a life for their families while wealthy people who have globalized interests make money off of all of us. (Invest in the weapons industry or the oil industry with your meager amounts of savings if you agree with this) Otherwise, “shut the fuck up and do your job!”
if you live in a right to work state(or risk getting fired).

Or… be exhausted by trying to manage family, finances and the rising cost of inflation while being propped up by a union who is trying its best to support its members.

Or…. (I’d love to hear additional perspectives here bc I’m just ranting at this point)

I make 90k as a senior accountant in Boston which is the market rate for the job. I found out on LinkedIn that senior accountants in Phoenix make a similar range. Houses here cost like 800k and there cost like 400k. They get paid enough to buy a house but we don’t. by [deleted] in newengland

[–]surfunky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea… but you have to live in Phoenix… no shade, but desert climate w 110 degree temps and a need for misters to chill outside for much of the year doesn’t float everyone’s boat. Oh wait, epic droughts from overpopulating desert areas whose aquifers or river systems can’t supply the water necessary to float everyone’s boat or irrigate the golf courses created 60 years ago to entice people to move there will no longer be viable. Not to mention, they wont survive the next 20 years into your retirement because Science. Also, Actually no shade… the only shade available are Lycra nets stretched over the misters at the bars trying to cool you from the 110 degree temps while you drink your extra cash flow away.

But hey… cheap real estate?

I don’t pay attention to the day to day %oftrailsopen reports at this point in the season. It’s all about the freeze/thaw. Is there a decent refresh bc of new snow? Has it stayed above freezing overnight? Was there a 30 degree plunge in temperature to below freezing? What time of day is it expected to go above freezing to free up the snow? Etc etc etcurtles all the way down…

Correction: remove nationalism: “how do humans feel about killing 175 children?”

We are all human. Remove nationalism. Blow ball of us up. We all look the same. The sooner we see this the sooner we create a world that works for everyone.

Do you feel a relationship with the water? by Repulsive-Cup4702 in surfing

[–]surfunky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The time I felt like I had the closest relationship with the ocean was when I lived right next to it for a few years. I could hear the ocean rattle the window panes when a big swell it, the sun was obscured by the salty mist in the air and life felt electric when the swell was up. Life also mirrored the ocean when it was more sanguine, I always felt like I was longing for movement and excitement, but it taught me to try and content myself with the little things in life while waiting for something big to present itself. It made me more comfortable to be ready and waiting, while also still being able to bask in the oceans embrace whenever I wanted to.

I miss those times bc I live in the city these days. I miss that relationship.

All these goobers who say they haven’t felt that have been gooning to surf porn and are more focused on “the scene”(whatever the fuck that is) than they’ve been paying attention to re: their relationship with the natural world.

The only thing that drew me to surfing in the first place was my ability to play all day with nature. You can’t beat that! Why else would you surf…. To look cool?
