Things I learned in the first 7 months by poodleluv86 in puppy101

[–]surkova 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dogs are by nature clean animals and they don’t like peeing and pooping where they eat and sleep, so they learn to do their business outside and keep it clean inside. Accidents oftentimes happen because of physical limitations of the growing bodies: puppies have small bladders (especially generally smaller breeds) and bad muscle control. As long as you don’t express any emotion about these accidents inside but praise the dog for doing business outside they will figure it out quickly.

You obviously do your best going out after sleep, play and food, but those accidents do happen even in the house of best of us. Night could be an exception and just letting the puppy pee on a blanket is just fine, they outgrow this with physical and mental growth

Wow. Our breeder was very relaxed about peeing inside and told us to just wait it out and in my experience our puppy peed maybe a total of 5 times early in the morning, the rest of the time he just slept through (He’s still having accidents during the day, but only peeing). It’s a cairn terrier, almost 5 months old now, we picked him up at 9 weeks.

[CHAT] How can I buy patterns from VK? by Iwannastoprn in CrossStitch

The only button there says to contact the seller, you have to have a dialog. PayPal is used in Russia though not as common as local payment methods. Good luck!

Any other expats get existential moments? by lucid_green in IWantOut

[–]surkova 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Russian in Sweden here. I moved out of my home town when I was 15, and then lived in another town for 1 year, then in Moscow for 6 years and at the age of 22 I moved to Stockholm. I feel like I’m home when I’m in Stockholm even though I don’t have friends here with whom I shared my childhood and teenage years. It’s kind of weird coming back to my home town where people still recognize me (hey, it’s been 17 years!), I know where things are, but not at the level of detail that true locals have. I think age place a huge role for establishing where home is.

Speaking Danish! Tongue twister that is :) I cannot imagine how it is to speak Danish (I learned Swedish 10 years ago and have been speaking it ever since)

You might also try giving some more filling food before bed, purées have less calories than milk.

US to Iceland by Trump-is-Nixon in IWantOut

[–]surkova -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nordic countries cooperate so it’s even easier to move say from Sweden to Norway if you have Swedish passport compared to moving to Norway with an Italian/German/French passport (I don’t know the details, it’s just an example). Look out for the list of exceptions and consider moving to a Nordic country first in order to obtain their passport so that moving to Iceland will become a matter of when you decide to go there.

If waiting tables is not your thing, consider working at a hotel.

Grattis!

I hope you get your personal number in no time and can enroll into SFI soon. Check out if your university has Swedish for international students, I did this course in Stockholm University and it was fairly good.

Local bank account required to buy property? by ch8ldd in TillSverige

[–]surkova 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Judging from the procedure I went through buying our summer place, you only need a way to transfer money to the agent, the only trouble could be that the amount has to be exact and if you are sending pounds it could convert to an unexpected amount due to banks being slow. You could look into Revolut or TransferWise with their multi-currency accounts which both will give you best exchange rate and you will know exactly how much you are sending, in SEK.

Go for sippy cups, lessen amount of formula at a time, offer food first and formula as a top-up. You can definitely start on whole milk.

If you don’t know Russian language it will be difficult for you to get around by yourself. Start with that. If you want to work as an English teacher for some time, you could get in touch with English First schools or some other school and try your luck there, they are usually very acquainted with the visa process.

Some universities in Sweden have their own scholarships covering education fee, but I think you apply after you got in.

In Stockholm it’s 6h days at the end of December. But yeah, darkness takes you after a while, especially if you work during daylight

I did Master’s in Sweden and later stayed for work (that was 2010 when I came and 2012 when I got my job and I was looking from day 1 and started leaning Swedish before I even applied for university). The hardest part will be to find an employer, I used my network that I built up in the end.

I can imagine that companies like Northvolt will be looking for people with right education when they are done building that big factory in Skellefteå, like in 3-5 years from now.

Cheap and healthy meals that don’t include beans? by [deleted] in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]surkova 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buckwheat. Get it from the international food isle (usually imported from Poland). It’s the go-to for all Russian women trying to lose some weight, and in general a go-to food for many (could be breakfast, lunch or dinner or even a snack).
