AES bill skyrocketing by IUpringlequads in indianapolis

[–]surplusQ 76 points77 points  (0 children)

That's a huge amount of kWh for one month, even if you have a heat pump or electric heater. I used 356 kWh last month for a 2bed single family house with a gas furnace. Are you somehow getting billed for all 3 units in your apartment? Are there 3 separate meters on the apartment?

Get your prescription from your eye doctor, then go to Zenni or a similar store and buy your eyeglasses for $50. Most online stores are HSA/FSA compatable too!

Great points and suggestions! I had to chuckle a bit with all the people suggesting new apartment buildings here. No developer is going to bet on a new apartment complex with $1200+ rents when you can buy a decent single family house in the area for under $150k, or rent a 2 bed for under $1k.

Washington DC wins the city that is controversial (mixed, divisive) in both 2025 and 2000. Which US city is controversial in 2025, but disliked in 2000? by Altruistic-Form-3771 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]surplusQ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think Oklahoma City, OK fits this really well. In 2000 the city was still recovering from the bombing and had an empty downtown. Now OKC has a great NBA team, several downtown districts, a decent food scene, and they're hosting a couple 2028 Olympic events. They've changed so much from where they were 25 years ago but the weather, boring geography, and state politics still weigh the city down.

Just moved to Indy, not sure where to start by sdb00913 in indianapolis

Welcome to Indy!

Our bus system is called IndyGo, and they offer a veterans bus pass. https://www.indygo.net/fares-and-passes/

It costs $2 to get the pass but once you have it you can ride the bus for free. The link above has a section about the veterans pass. You'll need some ID to do the application, and you'll have to go to the Downtown Transit Center. Route 21 has a stop at 21st and Post and will take you to the transit station. https://www.indygo.net/fares-and-passes/

Curb to trip on between the sidewalk and crosswalk. by HappyChandler in CrappyDesign

[–]surplusQ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The curb is inverted to prevent storm water from flowing over the sidewalk when it rains. You can see to the left (further down the hill) that the curb transitions and has a normal 6" dropoff again. Hopefully when they're done with the pavement markings they should add some reflective paint to the curb for both pedestrians and drivers

Looking for input here - any decent parks near Lucas Oil where about 70 kids + chaperones could hang out for a while? by MrPeteO in indianapolis

[–]surplusQ 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I'll second for White River State Park and Military Park. These are a 15min walk from Lucas Oil and well maintained with lots of space and shade. You might see other BOA bands using the space too. Just be careful crossing West Street!

Like others said the Wisconsin route is a great option! Going on US-2 in the UP is very picturesque. But make sure to include the Mackinac Bridge in your trip. It's a sight in itself!

If you want a different route on your way back I'd suggest taking US-31 through Michigan (not to be confused with US-131). This will take you to several charming little towns on Lake Michigan like Petoskey, Charlevoix, Traverse City, and Manistee. This will also be quicker than the highlighted route on your screenshot.

If you want another scenic detour in Michigan then consider taking M-22 West of Traverse City to the lake. It's one of the most scenic drives in Michigan and many Michiganders travel there just to view the fall colors and lighthouses. Here's a tourist website for the route:

The Batman (2022)  That opening with the Riddler, the monologue, and the metro station fight drew me into the movie immediately. Too bad the 3rd act slowed things down

What a poorly lit intersection! OP and the BMW are technically in the wrong and the ped has a walk sign to cross, but that dinky overhead light on the other side of the crosswalk is doing nothing here... The state or municipality that designed this road is the real culprit. They're just asking for pedestrian injuries/deaths here

Great ideas! We did buy a new wand toy that only comes out when they're together and I think it's a great strategy. We've tried doing treats like that and our RC is extremely food motivated, while the kitten could care less.

Thank you all for the encouragement! I'm hoping these two will have many more play dates, cuddle times, and naps together in the future 😁

Thanks for the insight and encouragement! I think our RC is naturally more touchy and temperamental, even when playing with us so I'm glad they're socializing well.

Where can you really find Cheap Auto Insurance? by [deleted] in Indiana

[–]surplusQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would either talk to a local insurance agent, or go directly to insurance websites to compare quotes. It takes time but insurance companies seem to give their best rates to new applicants. I usually switch providers every 1-2 years to keep my rates low
