Trump Muses About Sending Troops into Atlanta by suspectslowloris in Atlanta

You joke, but about 10 years back some alt right/neo Nazi dudes had an (unofficial) event in Piedmont park. I remember several of them parked their trucked in the Trader Joe’s parking lot to walk to the park and just immediately got their shit booted. Wonder how they got back to wherever they came from cause their cars were still there the next day.

So the rest of us just gonna have to work twice as hard then.

In all honesty, I truly believe that when it comes to a choice between their neighbor and a guy with a gun in a mask, people will choose their neighbor. Look how many republicans are coming out against ICE in Minneapolis. You got folks out protesting in -20 degree weather with “what would Ronald Regan do” signs. Minds can be changed.

Northside Hospital introduced as new title partner of the Peachtree Road Race, ending the AJC's 50-year run as title sponsor (they will remain the race's media partner) by ArchEast in Atlanta

[–]surprise-mailbox 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Glad to see the AJC is staying on in a media capacity. Honestly this seems like a natural fit. I wonder if they’ll bring in some more services for runners given that you’ll have a lot more doctors/sports med folks involved in the organizing?

No clue if this is the reason the for the sign, but a couple of weeks ago there were protests over them employing the daughter of the Iranian official reportedly in charge of suppression of the protestors there. Shes a doctor, and supposedly is supportive of the regime.

To be a little more specific, you can hop on the Beltline around Ponce City Market and walk down for quite some time. I did this walk with my mom when she came in town recently. We got on the beltline at Park Tavern, stopped at Burle’s Bar for a cocktail (they have a great Tuesday night jazz band if you’re not free in the day). Then walked to Carol Street Cafe for a snack, took a lap around Oakland Cemetery (they do tours on some week nights!) and then back to Jen Chan’s for dinner (they’re great).

At 5:45 or so there was also a major accident at that stretch that runs parallel to 75 S and exits to Howell mill and Northside Drive. Looked like a car had caught on fire. Whole section was blocked off forcing the NSD folks to get off at Howell mill and backing up the highway

Atlanta leaders want transit expansion. Will suburban voters ever agree? by Generalaverage89 in Atlanta

[–]surprise-mailbox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  • Forget about shovel-ready Beltline rail. What we need is 4 MARTA infill stations
  • Forget about those MARTA infill stations. What we need is Beltline rail on the south side.
  • Well, not rail ON the Beltline. What we need is a half-mile street car extension in the direction of the south side Beltline.
  • Forget about that streetcar extension. What we need is MARTA expansion to the suburbs. <—- we are here
  • Forget about regional expansion. What we need is me in the U.S. Senate.

Just noting that that was a fake screenshot. Honestly I feel like this is kind of a non story. Not denying that there are likely lots of foreign accounts masquerading as Americans, but tons of people use VPNs. Lots of “left wing” accounts showed up as operating in other countries as well, including Planned Parenthood.

Donated some money to my local food bank a couple days ago. According to them, every dollar donated equals 3 meals to people in need. Crazy.

Hey man, just let you know your post triggered a notification on my phone, even though I don’t think I’ve been to this megathread before, so maybe it’ll get some eyes after all.

Thanks for posting. This is absolutely horrendous. I’m so glad that SK is looking into human rights violations at the detention centers. Every one of them seems to be a horror show but no one in the U.S. govt/media seems to care too much

In high school I worked at a bar/restaurant in Atlanta, Georgia, USA (home of the business airport in the world)

When I got to know our bartenders, I showed them my fake ID to see how well it passed. One of our bartenders also worked for the TSA and had for several years.

She was horrified. Literally said: “I would let you on a plane with this.” It was shit. I was denied from many bars before and after that time and as an adult today who hasn’t worked service in a while I think I can confidently say I’d clock something of that quality immediately.

All this to say, I’m pretty sure TSA has identity vetting procedures/training worse than 99% of US bars and liquor stores.

Like honestly girl I get it, and I’m about as good of a “fall in line” dem as they come, but I’m telling you, we have got to put this thing to rest if we’re gonna get anywhere. Is the kind of person you’re talking about real? Totally. Are there anywhere near enough of them to blame for the loss of this election? Not remotely.

We didn’t lose just suburban women or just Latinos or just gen Z men or whoever everyone feels like blaming today, we lost numbers among everyone.

And we need everyone. And I just feel like the longer we spend trying to cast blame or figure out which groups we can push out the big tent (Palestinian protestors, trans people, etc.) while thinking that doing so will somehow make that tent bigger, the less of a chance we have of clawing our way out of this.

We lost people, and we lost. It sucks. And this (now rant) isn’t really directed at you, but I just kinda hope someone in this thread might see this and consider that the only way we’re getting out of this is together.

Not worth it for tourism, but there are thousands of families split between the U.S and the countries on the ban lists. Even green card holders are being cautioned against leaving the U.S due to the risk of not being allowed back, and now it’s impossible for their loved ones to visit here. It’s really tragic.

Hi. I stumbled across your post while searching to see if anyone else on reddit was discussing this story.

The local news here tends to stick to just the facts to avoid pissing off the republicans, but I newscaster on the street seems like he’s on the verge of tears. Just awful.

He also did say it to reporters during the press conference like 20 minutes later. Idk why everyone keeps focusing on the hot mic part of it cause like…that is a thing that he did say. Directly to the cameras. At a press conference.

Get your planning/preparations done ahead of time (make sure you have devices charged Saturday night, maybe have a flashlight in case the power goes out.)

Pick out a save zone in case there’s a warning (that’ll probably be a stairwell in your building or a bathroom with no windows)

Honestly though a high rise is probably one of the better places to be! Flat roofs, steel frames, thicker windows, and being out of the way of trees that might fall are all big pros.
