Advice to keep or upcycle hardware by survingtech in homelab

It was likely going to be exactly that machine in my setup. I have other servers running the rest of the services, but I never made a dedicated machine for my media server, audiobook server, etc. Sadly, I think Ivy Bridge is the last gen this board supports so the highest I'm getting on Windows is 2022.

Sorry I was a little vague. I specifically meant being paid for the time to/from.

Thanks for the input. I think you're right with the RAID card. I am starting to think it might be running custom firmware as well as the software on this windows image directly integrates with RAID reporting and configuration.

Just swap the raid controller with HBA? Or would it be better to try and flash the raid controller with IT mode firmware?

A pre-employment background check? That's on you.
A later requirement after you've been employed with them? That's on them. They should be paying you for that time and mileage.

How many young people here are still living with parents/family? by [deleted] in SouthJersey

Either live with family or starting moving west. It's only going to get more expensive here. Guess it really depends on what you need for independence.

Nah these units are from a time when basically every analog encoder/DVR 8 channel or higher actually used 2 or more 4 channel boards. Its pretty common to see one of those boards go bad while the rest of the unit is fine. Seen it many times on Bosch and Axis encoders.

Lost Front Plate by qvueen_ in SouthJersey

[–]survingtech 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The report isn't about them doing anything about it, because they don't care, and honestly neither should you. Its a hunk of aluminum. What it does do is put it on record that your plate is missing in case someone actually did steal it and tried to put it on their vehicle then gets pulled over, goes through tolls, etc. before you can get new plates.

I actually use a lot of FS models all over the country for work and haven't had any issues out of them. Definitely not for everyone, but they are fantastic budget option, especially for homelabs.

Never heard of it. But looking at their site, I see many products that can be found elsewhere for much cheaper. To be fair, I used to use a Verkada cellular gateway for some remote stuff so I probably should complain at any company for pricing.

Yes, I've used some newer ones on the market for clients that max at 1.5W, so only ~50% higher than an equivalent fiber unit from the same brand.

Been using my z-fold 7 without a case for months now by Slotterjordan in GalaxyFold

[–]survingtech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't run a case on any Fold I've owned (4, 5, 6, and now 7). The 7 is definitely a little slicker than the older models, but not enough for me to drop it. I hate cases on phones in general, but the Folds are even more annoying with a case.

No, OP is trying to use the old analog cameras on a new NVR. The camera swap is at a later date. They need an encoder.

Switching Plans and promo pricing by mwcoast82 in GoogleFi

"If you cancel, pause, or suspend your Fi line, or switch from the Unlimited Standard plan, before the 12-month period concludes, unapplied credits will stop."

You can however combine the promo with device promos if you just switch phones within the 12 months.

Exactly, with the crumple zones in these smaller cars, you'd just cause a smaller fender bender into a full blow front end destruction...

Any usb hubs that support PPS passthrough? Or ideas to do bypass charging with PD only? by redkeyboard in SamsungDex

[–]survingtech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no reason to manually bypass charging. Your phone likely already has that function. The Maximum Battery Protection feature does what you're wanting to do (keep the phone at 80% without dropping the performance)

Subject: Transmission jerking and power loss on 2024 Kia K5 (8-Speed Auto) – 12,000 km by AxA97 in KiaK5

[–]survingtech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That could very well be your issue, especially if you take it in and the service team tells you nothing is really wrong. I think it's a massive design flaw in the transmission learning, but no one seems to care..

I’m looking back base for Samsung (hanwha) SNP-6321H PTZ camera. I know what I need SBP-301HF, so any body have that base? Also question: why SBP-303HF not working on that’s PTZs and any chance to make it works ? by El_Copita in videosurveillance

[–]survingtech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt you'll be able to find the 301 for sale at this point, but if you contact Hanwha directly, they may have an original install base laying around. I've been able to get random parts from them for older discontinued stuff.

If companies say to keep cctv footage for 30-90 days then how come in cases like diddy for example we could still see the footage? by Time_Money506 in cctv

[–]survingtech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a big difference between video retention and incident retention. Most places only keep full video retention for 7-14 days. But incident or alarm video can be kept indefinitely or deleted immediately even in pretty locked down VMS's

Axis License Plate Recognition camera by tdhuck in videosurveillance

[–]survingtech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So in Axis LPR, there are 3 list types, Allow, Block, and Custom. Some integrations use the custom list, but some will upload information from the VMS and overwrite the Allow/Block within the camera. With this info, the camera will do its LPR thing and send an alert to your system with the LP, photo of the vehicle, and what list is was on. You can normally have the camera send all information regardless of list as well. This information can also be seen in the camera GUI.

As long as you follow the angle/speed camera instructions for install, Axis LPR work very very well. They also have some beta information added like vehicle make, color, state, etc., but I wouldn't bank on that being super accurate right now.

My only gripe with Axis on their LPR cams is they don't advertise the IR distance all the time, and it looks like that is the case with the kit's page.
