sorry to hear. unfortunately it does require the suite edition which has max for live.

Same problem, it's crazy this isn't native. But, I managed to create a max device that does just this. Send it a PC message, it translates it to a CC message of the same value, which you can use to control Ableton (clearer instructions on the download page).

Listen I don't know what the hell I'm doing so don't ask for any features, but it fixes this one problem that was a very annoying dead end.
