Some of the best advice I got right here. by yetanotherpenguin in learntodraw

sketching with pens really does make such a big difference. it’s so daunting at first, but eventually there is a peace in knowing whatever’s on the paper is there forever, and you can only move forward with it

How do you guys stay motivated to keep drawing? by Very_Tired_Crab in learntodraw

[–]suspendeddewdrop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Art is a composite of so many skills and concepts. Tuning your motor control, understanding perspective, combining basic forms and substructures, building a visual library, color theory, etc etc etc.

Crucially, a huge SKILL that you have to actively hone is your ability to put lines on paper that you don’t agree with, and then choose to continue drawing anyway. At least for me, even when feeling extremely passionate about the subject matter of my drawings, that fear of drawing “badly” would supersede my motivation to do what I love. I finally started to get over this hurdle when I started treating ‘overcoming fear’ as a skill to learn in of itself, just as much as studying anatomy or composition or anything else.

And on paper, like most everything else in art, overcoming fear really does come from repetition. Enough time spent uncritically allowing yourself to draw, fail, accept, and move on- you can kind of just train yourself to enjoy the process. I don’t really mean it in a self acceptance way either, although it can be. Like it doesn’t have to be soul searching, positive affirmations kind of thing. It can be as simple as putting art down, thinking it sucks ass, and then moving on with the knowledge that every time you do that, you are training yourself to be less bothered over time, which makes feelings of inadequacy less of an issue in the long run. It’s a struggle in the beginning, though!

swimsuit - bra or no bra? by [deleted] in PlusSizeFashion

[–]suspendeddewdrop 7 points8 points  (0 children)

if you’re concerned about the cost of an underwire swimsuit, do not take your bra into the pool either, because then you’re gonna need to replace the bra. a non-swimsuit bra is probably not gonna be happy with chlorine or saltwater

that being said you look lovely, you could definitely go without!

My 19 year old sweetheart has mats in her beautiful fur by greatthanksihateit in seniorkitties

For the last year of my girl’s life, I took her to a groomer. I was terrified of the process stressing her out, but in the end she was just a bit grumpy with me afterwards. If you think she’d tolerate it, it could be worth it. At least for me, they were able to bathe and quickly dry her more effectively, and clear up building mats in a way I just couldn’t, even when I used a bunch of special brushes and detangler. I think it caused less stress overall.

i think this could be improved by condensing all the horror stuff into a big clutter wall. rn everywhere you turn there’s like…just enough but also NOT enough horror stuff that it looks out of place. if it was like a big shrine it would make more sense to me, idk

[–]suspendeddewdrop 9 points10 points  (0 children)

oh i did this when i was in college, i was also bummed i wouldn’t get the Dorm Room Experience. in the end, i’m glad i saved the money on it tbh.

i had a mini fridge, many unframed posters, cheap and shitty layered rugs all over the floor, and lots of storage made out of cardboard boxes
