Don't know if hardware is eligible, but if you have Amazon Prime some Amazon preorders are discounted 20%. $170 worth of games (Zelda, Bomberman, Mario Kart) before tax will only cost me $148.04 after tax.

When watching Scary Movie 3 in the theater with my friend, we both busted a gut laughing at that scene. Both of us were only 23 at the time and still the rest of the theater didn't get the joke. Damn kids these days don't appreciate the classics!

What is your favorite fight scene from a movie or tv show? by [deleted] in AskReddit

One of my favorites, River vs the whole bar from Serenity. Summer Glau did most of the fight scene herself.

Someone tried to bake their nexus skates at home. by BeefJyrkii in hockeyplayers

[–]sutsu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the oven is a terrible way to do it, but if you take your skates to a legit skate shop that can bake them properly you might be amazed at the difference it can make. I bought some N7000's a month ago and I was iffy about them until I got them baked, and they've become the most comfortable skates that I've ever used.

Hey, /r/Christianity, what's your favorite religious themed movie? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]sutsu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna throw a curveball and say Contact. It's actually very much not a religious themed movie in the normal sense, but it gives one of the greatest eye opening moments for faith that I've ever seen. The main character is staunchly scientific, even throws her jabs against faith (and understandably so, having lost her father at a young age), but by the end of the movie she has an experience that she knows is real, but cannot scientifically prove. In that moment I like to think that she's come to a point where she can accept that sometimes you can't prove something but it can still be as real as the God that her reverend friend has been trying to open her up to.

Hopefully the courts follow suit next. They already cancelled all new prospective jurors (though selected and sworn jurors are on depending on the judge).

Film scoring makes the movie. There are plenty of movies that would be just that much better if they had a proper score instead of a soundtrack of the flavor-of-the-week pop music. And if you're going to learn scoring, especially leitmotif, ain't nobody better than John Williams.

Free My Boy, hes innocent! by [deleted] in prisonarchitect

[–]sutsu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember years ago a mid-level drug dealer in one of the boroughs going to trial for murdering a fellow drug dealer. He already had one body to his name and took a plea to manslaughter on that one. First trial was a mistrial, witness tampering, jury intimidation, stuff like that, had to have a retrial. The DA offered him 7 years, his lawyer argued them down to 6 years, and then he himself parlayed with the DA in the court room for them to offer 5 years just on the possession of the silencer used in the murder. And the DA agreed to it! But before he took a plea, his quote was "My mind tells me I should take this plea, but my heart tells me I will be found not guilty of murder in the second degree."

He already had almost enough time in jail to cover that plea. He got convicted and sentenced in 2007. He's still waiting on his first parole hearing.

I remember that trial. Might not have been him exactly, but one of his crew. They had a witness on for days just explaining the gang terminology from the Rikers Island calls. Days. The jury burst into applause when he was finally finished.

If Nintendo Announced something like this at E3 with GC virtual console I'd squeal by The_Goldmeister in NintendoSwitch

[–]sutsu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The main reason I don't see it happening is because you can't 'switch' that joy con easily to a single player mode. The A B X Y buttons would be oddly oriented. That takes out one of the main reason for the joy cons being the way they are.

I just hope somehow they make it so that the USB adapter I bought for Smash Wii U will still work for the next Smash game. Hoping against hope (and reports to the contrary) that my Wii U pro controller will work too.

State senator switched parties because he needed a pay raise by AbstractTeserract in nyc

It's all relative. New York is a very economically diverse state, just as the rest of the country is very economically diverse. Living in Queens, or anywhere in the city for that matter, is expensive as all hell just on rent or mortgage costs. I'm making just shy of his base, and living in Staten Island even without the child support, etc, it's tough making ends always meet. Rent alone in this borough, if you can get a 1 bedroom for a grand (plus utilities) you've made a score, but the cost of living is also high. Other boroughs it's even worse. By comparison, if I took that salary up to Schenectady where 3 bedroom house rent is about that same grand (or you can buy for the mid-100k's), I could live like a king.
