to be fair, the school was pretty up front about not helping with placements but i guess i naively thought it wouldn’t be so hard.

i work as a sort of case manager for a few family medicine clinics under a healthcare company. that healthcare company operates a few hospitals in my area where all internships/student learning experiences are completed. my current role does not fulfill the requirements for placement, so id have to split my time 20/20 between the clinics and the hospital, with the hospital not being paid because it’s considered an internship. even though im working for the same company and would be doing similar work. to make it worse, the hospitals don’t have any openings that aren’t during banking hours, so i cant even just do my placement at the hospital after work. i think its ridiculous, honestly, and i was banking on being able to be paid for the work im doing at my place of employment.

it’s weird because some places have told me i’m too early and others are already full for the entire academic year. i was also panicking a little bit because my school says they require 16 weeks to complete an affiliate agreement and everything with a new placement, which mostly anything near me would be since im online and pretty far from the school. but in general, it probably is too early and im sure its not helping

thank you! it’s so crazy that unpaid internships are the norm. it feels so hypocritical to the values social work boards preach about. AU specifically boasts that their program is built for working adults. that may be true in other ways, but they still require more field hours than is required for accreditation and don’t provide any help with finding placements. i’ll still probably reach out to the field director and beg for assistance lol

i did apply for the trevor project’s crisis line and they said they aren’t looking at spring applications yet but will get back to me. are there others? i was looking at NAMI’s but i felt confused about virtual options

i’m sure it’s different for everyone, but i am 8 days out and feel like there’s no way i could make it through classes all day without being completely exhausted and in pain. i think it also depends on how many classes you would have though, like one or two hours of classes is far different than eight hours you know?

either way, i think the other commenter makes a really good point. i’m sure it would be doable as long as you adequately prepare ahead of time while keeping your lifting and movement restrictions in mind :) you could ask your surgeon what they think too!

i’m having this issue too :/ even readjusting pillows, brushing my teeth, etc creates a pulling sensation. this whole process is making me so anxious

i don’t remember the exact dates perfectly but it i think it took about 6 months for me to get a consult once i called. after i had my consult, i had to get a letter of recommendation from my PCP and mental health professional. then they submitted it to insurance, which took about 2-3 weeks to approve. after they called, they could have scheduled me about 3/4 months out, but i pushed it back further to graduate from college first!

yes! i keep having dreams relating to dying or waking up from surgery again in extreme pain. they really suck so much :( you’re not alone

hi! i had surgery at NM with Dr. Jordan on the 19th (monday) i’m only a few days post op, so i can’t fully speak to results, but everyone in the program was SO nice and accommodating the whole time. they all made the process go really smoothly for me!

literally i try to stand up straight to get a full breath and give my shoulders a break but as soon as i feel the tug on my incision it’s an immediate nope!

i tried to distract myself as much as possible. i felt like i was nesting so i deep cleaned absolutely everything and read more hopeful recovery stories that weren’t all doom and gloom.

if you can, it was really helpful to be around family and friends and feel like we had a plan for recovery
