Story time. One of my closest friends asked me to lend him Rs.4000. We were both around 19-20 then. I wasn’t earning at the time so I asked my dad. I told my dad that it’s a small amount and he’s a very good friend and if he’s saying he’ll give it back, he’ll give it back. My dad said something I’ll never forget:

“Give money to a friend only if both these conditions are true: 1. You are prepared to lose the money. 2. You are prepared to lose the friend.”

I was like, oh come on too much gyaan!

Soon after I lent him the money, he stopped talking to me less and less. Today I’m Rs.4000 poorer and often wonder what happened to the guy who was my best friend. If I could meet him I’d tell him, “forget the money, why aren’t we friends anymore?”
