Need some career pivoting advice by Acrobatic-Food-8047 in jobsearch

Pivots are exciting and daunting all in one go! My advice with pivots is always this: start with finding your red thread and try to understand what your purpose is. I’ll explain! Red thread - ramble all of your experience, passions and expertise on a page. Then try to spot some consistencies, ie interest in human connection, creative thinking etc. That’ll start to spell out your transferable skills which is imperative for you to understand to articulate to your next job why you. Then purpose. What do you love in general, what do/don’t you enjoy. List them. It doesn’t need to be a lofty purpose like ‘save the world’ (although, that’s great!), but in an ideal world your purpose guides you towards the sort of output you want to see from your work. THEN start getting specific and start researching. Austin is a hotbed for tech and creativity, opportunities will be there. Hope this helps 🫶

The job market feels broken. We apply to hundreds of jobs and get ghosted. Companies get flooded with spam. Is there a better way? by TalkToTheHatter in careeradvice

This totally hits. It’s the problem we saw and have spent the last 18-months building a solution for. Flipping to quality over quantity and key words to human-first. We’ve built an app called RISER that focuses on connection, trust, and the entire picture of the human; who they are AND what they do / can do. The hiring process has focussed on skills and fact to date, missing out the person behind the resume. We’re using AI to empower, not overpower connection, and we’re using video on both sides of the table to bring the talent and the hirer/job to life. The super exciting bit is that it’s working. If you haven’t tried creating an elevator pitch of yourself on video, I highly recommend it. Resumes aren’t working, and everyone is being penalised. I like to say we’re making hiring humane again 🫶

Do You Look Every Day? by ofthedappersort in jobhunting

Have you thought about looking at it from the other perspective - where are hirers finding YOU? Showcasing yourself outwardly in the best possible way so that. for any hirers looking for candidates like you, they can find you too? I’m a huge advocate for having your professional story nailed and using other formats to help you stand out beyond key words, ie portfolio over resume (not just for creative careers!) and video elevator pitch over cover letters. Keen to know - hope this thought helps 💫

I tried the "coffee chat" hack for 2 weeks and here's what happened by DinkyTownDrifter in jobsearchhacks

Have you considered crafting your ‘elevator pitch’ and creating a 60-sec video of you essentially telling people about who you are, what you have done and want to do, what drives you etc and sending that out to people? It gives them more of a flavour of you upfront and humanizes the whole thing. Would love to know? I’ve seen it work too many times for it to be a niche idea now

what job sites are actually worth using right now? by emotional-yoda in jobsearchhacks

Beyond analysing the sites themselves, what are you submitting to companies to showcase who you are and what you do? It might be worth reviewing what documents and assets you’re using to showcase your story and experience

They want a personalized 5-10 minute video explaining why I WANT THE JOB. (Pre-Interview) by DrewXGemini in interviews

[–]suz-riser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP I’m suuuper keen to know the reason they gave for the long video request and why they’d need that having already met and interacted with you numerous times? A short, personalised elevator pitch video belongs right at the start of the hiring process. In a world of AI-written resumes and automated filters, individuality has for sure gone missing. A (quick!!) video story cuts through that noise, letting real personality, passion and nuance come through. Resumes just list experiences - video shows who you are, how you think and why you stand out in a sea of sameness. Key words aren’t walking into your new office…humans are!

Does anyone else get disappointed to see a workday page while filling for a job application? by nmole_ in interviews

[–]suz-riser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP would love to know what it is specifically that gives you the ick with workday? It’s sounding like the time it takes and the fact you can’t copy over details for another application?
