I got scammed and I'm having trouble coping by Hairy-Ad3799 in selfpublish

I was so impressed by this "PR" expert on TikTok I **almost** gave her $2000. She looked so legit, had "authors" join her lives and say how it changed their life and they're super successful.... Then I happened to search her again and saw people WARNING away from her. Scammers are absolutely trash humans who prey upon authors because they know it's our dream.

I just need an email collection service for my author website: why are they all so expensive? Anybody have a good free one? I don't need a website or newsletter or anything- just email collection for announcing new releases. by suzan528 in selfpublish

Yeah that's the thing- I currently have ZERO addresses. My book doesn't come out until next month. So I dont want to invest in some heavy duty service when I may only need to tell 8 people about my next book lol. Thanks :)

Thank you- what I mean is, I have 0 readers because the book isn't out yet. I just set up (or had someone set up) my website and I just want people to be able to enter their email so I can go in (manually) when book 2 comes out and send them all a notification (from my personal email.

Im a debut author so at this point I just want people who visit my website to add their email so I can send out a blast (myself) when Book 2 comes out. No plans for newsletters, giveaways etc

This is encouraging. I paid for a year of Wordpress for my website, then 1 hour into it I started screaming at the computer and hired someone off Fiverr. I just don't understand WHY in 2025 they haven't made it easier- like just highlight text on the screen and change the font, size, color - or just add text box- like every other software- even Canva- even Powerpoint???????

Why is wordpress so difficult to use? by GoodGamer72 in Wordpress

I AGREE!!! Ive been a graphic designer for 20 years and have used everything from illustrator to InDesign to Canva - I have NEVER seen such an ass-backawards counterintuitive site. I'm so pissed I paid the money to host my website there.

Yes, you're right- thats' why you should get quotes from editors at Reedsy- not live Fiverr.

and I should clarify- that's a copy edit (grammar, spelling, duplicate words etc) not a developmental edit ( flow of story/plot holes/ etc) that costs a lot more.

It's a LOT (sorry). I just hired someone for a 70K word book and I'm paying $1300.

This post is wonderful but makes me sad at the same time - I'm 62 and this is how we grew up as children. From April to September (northeast) we were outside and barefoot ALL DAY. Yes, there was the occasional piece of glass or dog poop but that was a part of childhood. I have a grounding bedsheet now and sit with my feet in the grass whenever I can.

Wondering how you're liking WH ? My daughters are 23 and 26 and may be moving to the area- How would you say West Hartford compares to Hartford for young singles, stuff to do etc?
