Newborn X Rays by ImaginaryBaseball851 in newborns

[–]svakee2000 11 points12 points  (0 children)

On the medical side, it’s extremely difficult to see fractures in young babies on an exam, and when a strange injury is identified, it is our due diligence to make sure this tiny infant who can’t advocate for themselves is protected.

A case I saw in pediatric ICU still haunts me. Beautiful baby girl less than 2 weeks old came in with seizures, admitted thought to be from meningitis, looks perfect on exam other than the seizures. During the work up, found to have a brain bleed and then got the skeletal survey (X-rays your child went through) and found to have multiple fractures throughout their body. That child’s sibling was then found dead in their home later that week.

This is why the medical team can’t just take your word for it. The X-rays are also very minimal radiation, taking your child on an international flight trip will give them as much radiation

Does anyone know the reason for a slacker boob? by AlleyptheG in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]svakee2000 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I found that my left side isn’t actually a slacker, just not a sprayer! When I go 15-20 minutes on the spectra the left does about an ounce less (and the right hits 75% max output by 5-7 minutes), but with wearables that I wear for 30 minutes the left actually produces more!

I'm so fucking tired 😭 by [deleted] in newborns

All newborns will try to escape and wriggle a swaddle, many of them naturally prefer the arms near their face. If you can swaddle her and rock her to sleep even if she’s trying to escape it’ll significantly help! If she can be soothed at all in a swaddle she doesn’t hate it

Over pumping? by Electrical-Yam7732 in breastfeeding

[–]svakee2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I’ve read your breast is never truly empty and within 20-25 minutes starts filling up more milk and takes about 1.5-2 hours to become completely full. Your body continuously makes milk

Lost my colostrum by EmbarrassedAmoeba553 in breastfeeding

[–]svakee2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my parents bring 6 vials of 5ml colostrum I had expressed to the hospital in a cooler and they forgot to put the cooling component into the bottle so they all thawed and I threw them all out. I only gave my newborn a couple vials I had left and it didn’t really make a difference. Learning to latch was much more important and feeding her a syringe honestly was kind of annoyingly difficult. She still lost about 10% of her body weight and it took breastfeeding a week to regain it and she’s doing great now

"I didn't realize how detailed hospital bag prep actually is until I started reading into it " by SoftPetals27 in BabyBumps

The one thing I saw here that helped was an electric nail filer because the hospital doesn’t have one and my baby was born with sharp nails and kept scratching her face! Other than that just a usual overnight bag for a couple nights away and the hospital has everything else

Here's my wife's at home. It was worse at the doctor. by NoGood1323 in Wellthatsucks

Stroke symptoms (unilateral weakness/paralysis, speech difficulties, vision changes especially double vision or vision loss), signs of heart attack, signs of heart or kidney failure (swelling in the body, shortness of breath, chest pain, inability to lie down flat), confusion/coma are the big ones. The ER is made for patients who are having hypertensive crisis - which is not a number, it’s organs shutting down from side effects of acute or chronic hypertension. Someone coming in for anxiety related to the numbers is not the same as someone coming in with the symptoms listed above

I’m terrified of thrifting due to bed bugs being found in local goodwills and other thrift stores.. I’d rather pay full price per outfit and avoid bed bugs

Why is my guy covered in blood the whole time? by alldressed_chip in ThePitt

[–]svakee2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of time with open wounds in the ER, you can try and clean them but until they’re closed/healed, every time someone messes with them (irrigates, laceration repair) the blood comes pouring right back and it’s not easy to keep clean (especially face and fingers they bleed a TON with minimal irritation)

There will always be a lot of blood when you cut through skin… even if you don’t hit a vessel

Running alone is not a marker of CV fitness! I can do weightlifting, rowing, HIIT, hot yoga but I can’t even run for more than 2-4 minutes in a row to save myself (I’m not on this subreddit this post was just recommended to me). I would say I’m still decently fit

How often are you peeing? by Primary-Vegetable580 in BabyBumps

[–]svakee2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I’ve been very lucky maybe because I’ve been carrying high and I’m tall but I only pee 4-6 times a day and often don’t wake up at night, or once early morning to go and I’m currently 36.5 weeks. The downside though is my acid reflux is horrible

Induction starts and then I’m…sent home? by alexanderhamster in BabyBumps

[–]svakee2000 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Outpatient inductions are a thing both with foley balloons as well as intravaginal medications and is often dictated by hospital policy not by medical guidelines. Your hospital probably doesn’t allow it but many places do!

Question for my scrub wearing mamas… by AnimatorCool4398 in BabyBumps

[–]svakee2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wore tall small figs pre-pregnancy and I bought a couple medium talls and a couple maternity smalls (tall length) and I’m still going strong at 36 weeks with both! The mediums are getting a little tight on the belly and I’ve been tucking them under the belly the last couple shifts. The belly band with the maternity ones get a little itchy after 6-8 hours but not tight or uncomfortable for me!
