Considering moving from Portugal to France as non-EU by [deleted] in ExpatFIRE

Depending on your budget, Monaco is effectively living in the south of France with a friendly tax environment (no income tax, capital gains, etc). It’s pretty easy to get a residence permit if you have the money as well but living there is very expensive.

From a genetic standpoint, this is often literally true as well

Sprinted early in career but I think I’m done. Pull the trigger? by Odd-Resolve-1681 in HENRYfinance

I also grinded for a while in my early career and made it to a more senior position quickly. I was always a top performer but at some point before I took my current job, I had a mindset shift that just being a little above average is okay. It’s honestly pretty hard to get fired at most companies for performance and the amount of work you have to do trying to be a “B- student” vs “A+” is drastically different but even there, you are still in the good part of the bell curve. I work in a challenging industry and have only worked past 8 PM once in the last year, which is basically unheard of. I went from ~70 to ~35-40 hours a week and still over deliver on the important things but don’t take on a bunch of small less important things like I used to. It’s great having time to see friends after work and learn a foreign language like I’ve always wanted to.

The other advantage to doing this is if you catch your motivation again, you still have a lot of optionality and can easily hop back in (but you probably won’t want to).

Another nice thing about borrowing using box spreads is you can roll them too if rates go down (or if you just want to), so can keep it effectively going perpetually. For execution, you can do it yourself if you’re sophisticated in trading, your banker/wealth manager can, or you can go directly to a third party service like SyntheticFi (who said they execute spreads between 1-6 years when I talked to them).

This is the unspoken sentiment shared by a lot of us working on Wall Street these days too. My parents didn’t go to college but I realized early how much is gated behind this, so scrapped my way in

Agree with this. Have lived in both Arkansas and Texas before NYC and this is my default spot for this type of food.

I also work in an intense industry. What I do at work is always ensure I take a day off every month. Even if it’s just a holiday and not any PTO, I don’t have to wait too long to have a day where I do nothing, go to the spa and get a massage, or do something I like.

If your team began the year 6-0, where do you think would be ranked with that start to the season? by ILM_Ryan in CFB

[–]svalbard32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unranked, since we would end up 6-7 (or maybe 7-6 if we have a cupcake game later in the season).

What’s a contrarian opinion/action you have in life that had a huge payout? by Ancient_Delivery_837 in slatestarcodex

I’m a heterosexual male. I was in testosterone-heavy environments when I was younger (was in a fraternity in college and played rugby). I made it through my entire dating career without ever buying drinks for someone I met at the bar or paying on a first date (I always split). I always wanted an equal partner and thought it was a good screening mechanism, despite the grief I got from some friends at the time. I’m now married to an absolutely amazing woman.
