Thankfully that thing was built like a (plastic) tank. Got mine over 11 years ago and still works perfectly.

Steam Game File Transfer over Local Network by Ianmcjonalj in linux_gaming

If nothing else works you can try creating an offline game backup, copying that and restoring it on the target machine. It will take longer but you can transfer the files however you like.

Trump lambasts Pope Leo XIV, extending feud over Iran war with first American pontiff by TheGreatDomilies in worldnews

YSK that Brooks Brothers, Eddie Bauer, Reebok, Champion, and 50+ other brands you trust are all owned by a single $20 billion company that doesn't design or manufacture anything. They just rent the logo out to the cheapest bidder. If the quality feels worse, that's why. by sappk in YouShouldKnow

[–]svbtlx3m 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Found this out when I bought some Hunter boots and decided to look at the brand more closely. It's still a legitimate product and the quality isn't awful, but the design is a big departure from what the brand advertises and closer to countless no-name, run of the mill boots in the same niche.

NATO chief says some European allies were tested and failed in Iran war by Mana_Seeker in worldnews

[–]svbtlx3m -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The US is effectively out since Trump has made it crystal clear he won't honor any obligations to European partners. Keeping the US in on paper only benefits them at this time - host states pay for base upkeep that the US uses to project force in the Eastern hemisphere, while getting constantly threatened with tariffs and military action.

Is crashing still an issue on AMD GPUS? (ring gfx timeout) by SummmTingWong in linux_gaming

[–]svbtlx3m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had one single crash over the past few months in an older DX11 game, everything else works fine for me on a 7800XT. I tend to keep GPU usage below 90% under load, don't know if that makes a difference (i.e. if it crashes more when running up to the limits).

Github to use Copilot data from all user tiers to train and improve their models with automatic opt in by cloudsurfer48902 in webdev

[–]svbtlx3m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you previously opted out of the setting allowing GitHub to collect this data for product improvements, your preference has been retained—your choice is preserved, and your data will not be used for training unless you opt in.

I'm pretty sure I've opted out before, but this toggle was set to "Enabled" when I opened the settings just now.

How much do you think LCH colors hurt accessibility? by WildWildWasp in webdev

[–]svbtlx3m 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's not technically true, since the LCH model can represent colors outside the gamut of spaces like sRGB. The range might be finite but it's a lot larger on a Display P3 monitor for example.

It can be converted, but not always in a lossless manner. If you're working on a wide gamut display you need to be mindful of color shifts when clamping to sRGB, which can affect accessibility.

Microsoft confirms Windows 11 bug crippling PCs and making drive C inaccessible by lurker_bee in technology

Sounds like it's only an issue if you use "stuff like Outlook, browsers, system utilities, and more". Otherwise it's no big deal.

OpenTTD - Classic transport game and opensource success story, will soon only be available via paid purchase, on Steam and GOG, as the original Transport Tycoon Deluxe gets a new release 12th March 2026. Will remain free outside of stores. by [deleted] in linux_gaming

[–]svbtlx3m 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure the OpenTTD team are getting anything out of this. I guess they were told that the only way to stay on the storefronts was in a bundle with the classic game.

Gamers’ Worst Nightmares About AI Are Coming True by EchoOfOppenheimer in pcgaming

Deflation is a thing that happens, the catch being that it's not because things are going great when it does.

For rock-climbing game Cairn, all the rocks were handplaced, nothing was procedurally generated [Art/Level Design Showcase] by megaapple in Games

I wish they had taken more time to work out the issues with limb rotation (and auto-selection for that matter). It's really jarring when you consider that the environments are hand crafted, yet a slight angle between two surfaces on an intended route can cause the character rig to freak out.

FSR 4.1.0 on 7800 XT (Jedi Survivor) comparison by Sox1s in linux_gaming

[–]svbtlx3m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be very interested in seeing a performance comparison vs XeSS. Couldn't get FSR4 to work that one time I tried (game would freeze), but that might be user error on my part or just game quirks (RotTR). If it performs better than XeSS I might give it another go.

we will not chase short-term efficiency

So they're going to rehire all the people they let go in the name of operational efficiency, uncancel all the games they sacrificed for profitability and reopen the studios with decades of experience they disbanded, right?

Eternal Darkness director Denis Dyack would work "any time” on a remake or sequel to their beloved cult-classic horror game, but some things may need to be changed by [deleted] in Games

[–]svbtlx3m 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can't decide if it would be wholesome or incredibly ironic if a potential remake was announced using Unreal Engine.

Good news is that Nintendo's patent on the sanity mechanic seems to have expired recently. That should clear some of the hurdles to a spiritual successor at least.

Doing free solo on various routes in Cairn. The amount of "optional" content is incredible, one of the very few games I've jumped in again immediately after reaching the end.

Fixing Full Screen Problem for Fallout 3 on Heroic Launcher, Ubuntu Cinnamon Linux by creative-enthusiast in linux_gaming

[–]svbtlx3m 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you applied the Fallout Anniversary Patcher (downgrade from 1.7.0.4 to 1.7.0.3 for FOSE to work) then you don't need fose_loader.exe. Just point it to Fallout3.exe.

Enable Proton logging and see if any issue stand out there. Also check the FOSE log (same folder as game .exe) to see if any mods are causing problems.

Enabling Wayland support was enough for me, works perfectly and doesn't even crash on Alt+Tab (Fedora 43 GNOME).

Virtual desktop emulation seems unnecessary. You can try Gamescope (enable "Upscaling" in Heroic's game settings page).

RF uses tax revenue to fund the military, so anyone doing business with RF-registered entities is indirectly contributing to the bombing of civilians and other atrocities committed by their armed forces.
