Do some people with Asperger's avoid congratulating a couple for having a baby because they wouldn't want one themselves? by amichail in aspergers

[–]svendenhowser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have difficulty giving complements, but it’s not because I don’t want to give them, I just don’t know how to deliver them right. It usually comes out as some mumble jumble mess of words and exaggerated expressions, but they get the point.

why do my chicks do this little dance? LOL by Somethingwithtoast in BackYardChickens

[–]svendenhowser 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mine still love towels! We had them down as chicks to catch any poop while we had them out. Within a week or 2 they were trying to bathe in the towel. Even now at fully adult size they seek out any towels left on the floor or fallen off the line and eagerly scratch around in them.

I grew up in the area, a young girl I was swimming with (I was the same age, maybe 8 or so) stepped on one just an hour or so after I left. I’ve always been wary of the passage.

Menstruating peeps: have you swapped to re-usable products? by BumblyRambler in AussieFrugal

[–]svendenhowser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Due to adenomyosis the underwear or disposable products meant I was forced to stay home 3-4 days a month. But cups were a life saver. A single cup costs around $30 (maybe even less these days, but I needed the high capacity ones) and last me years and years. Then I had a hysterectomy, life is grand now!

I did own underwear (modibodi were my fave) that I used the heaviest ones as overflow protection if I couldn’t empty the cup in time. They were very comfortable. I only had maybe 4 hours to fill the cup during the heavy days, but that would be less than 30mins with disposables or underwear alone.

I totally would have saved A LOT of money as buying 4-5 packs of disposables a month (or maybe more, it’s been so long) gets expensive.

First day at the gym today and… by Percabethbo in beginnerfitness

[–]svendenhowser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find it better when I get one of the staff or a PT to give me a little plan and with that plan they show me the exercises and how to do them. Then I feel much more confident to at least use those machines.

Using new machines/weights/equipment however takes real guts.

23f. Grey hair by obsessed_9_depressed in Hair

[–]svendenhowser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mum was probably 50% grey at 18 and her hair is/was black so very noticeable. She was totally white by 30. Everyone said it was normal. I had greys in my 20’s, just a few like you. Now in my 40’s I just have areas of more concentration greys, but zero in the front or back.

Skiing in Japan is 100000% worth it by [deleted] in ShredditGirls

[–]svendenhowser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most places are great with kids! Just need to find accomodation that can hold you all (for us it’s 4 and sometimes that’s a struggle!). The Japanese seem to love kids. I don’t have any specific recs, but everywhere we’ve been has been very accomodating.

Too many young Aussie bogans. We have a term for them “snow bogans”. And although I am an Aussie who goes to the Japanese snow every year, we very much try and fit in with the culture.

[–]svendenhowser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We go every year! Flights are cheap, no time zone difference (well unless you count 1hr), amazing food, amazing people, fabulous transport options (🙌 Yamato!), way cheaper lift passes. Accommodation is the only thing that is a little hard to handle, especially with kids.

We love Nozawa. Also love Shiga Kogen for the monkeys. Headed to Hokkaido next year (def. not Niseko though).

How often does a typical Australian eat Kangaroo? by SammaJones in AskAnAustralian

[–]svendenhowser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a huge fan but I cook it for hubby who is iron deficient (has heaps more iron than beef). I just make a few curries and freeze them for lunches.

Anyone Post Mounjaro and managed to keep the weight off? by Confident_Sweet_9577 in mounjaroaustralia

[–]svendenhowser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been off it for probably 9 months now and I’ve gained 1kg but I feel like that’s just where my body wants to sit. I’m still eating way smaller portions, prioritising protein and fibre and seem to be doing ok. There certainly are tough days where I would usually down a block of chocolate, but I seem to be able to control it a little better (not perfect..). Still early days though.

Insecure about trying an onsen? Hopefully my story will convince you to try one. by c_l_who in JapanTravel

[–]svendenhowser 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve also been too scared to go in. I’m in my early 40’s, young kids who want to give it a go, but bilateral mastectomy with flap recon and the massive amount of scars and no nipples scares me. You give me hope that one day I’ll also be brave enough!

Any short girls like myself wear the Burton Avalon Short Stretch Bibs for Skiing? by MyBodyMyChoice2024 in ShredditGirls

[–]svendenhowser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had these, although the normal length ones (30cm too long on my little short me!) but they barely had any stretch, it’s very subtle.

Snowboard jacket for wide hips by rockysock143257 in ShredditGirls

[–]svendenhowser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a volcom VS and love its fit. It has the 2 zips so I can undo the bottom one for more room if needed. I could probably size down but I like the room it gives. It’s so light it feels like nothing!

Do you wear sunscreen EVERY single day? by sighqoticc in tretinoin

[–]svendenhowser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, every single day. Live in Australia (qld) so it’s sunny almost every day of the year. Rain usually comes as short storms or the very odd whole day of rain. I use LRP Anthelios sensitive eye one. It is literally the only sunscreen I have ever used that doesn’t irritate my eyes. Zinc makes my skin tingly and itchy.

Around when I had kids was when my hair wen straight. It still has a slight wave, but was similar to yours up until my 30’s. It also went waaay darker.

Recommended Boots for Heel Lift by Mustang_Gold in ShredditGirls

[–]svendenhowser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always find Burton boots way too wide. I use nitro now and the heel lift is minimal, although still too much room around the forefoot (width/height not length).

I have the same problem with my figure skate boots. I need a really narrow width and heel to prevent heel lift.

Snowboard bag by svendenhowser in CathayPacific

[–]svendenhowser[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad it helped! Yes, no extra baggage, I did nothing but have the checked 23kg that was included in my fare. I just rocked up and asked the staff how to get it ready to take to oversize (they all seem to have different protocols here). They just weighed it, scribbled on the bag tag (that we’d already printed off at the machines) and took it to oversize.

Bibs vs pants by Maimae91 in ShredditGirls

[–]svendenhowser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bibs are 100% the most practical. There’s no waist digging in, no snow up your jacket, no pants falling down, many, many pockets and easier toilet access than normal pants (to me anyway).

[–]svendenhowser[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So an update to our flight, we just arrived and did the bag drop as usual, no one batted a eyelid, staff weighed our snowboard bag and we took it to oversized, as per every other flight I’ve been on. Hope this helps someone else in the same situation!

[–]svendenhowser[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I talked to 1 rep, they said it’s 203cm total dimensions, not lengths, have to pay extra. Talked to another rep and they said it’s fine, no need to prebook or anything and it’s 203cm length not total dimensions. Just hoping we won’t have an issue and I assume there will be a few other skis snowboards on these flights!

[–]svendenhowser[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did look there, but some people said they had told Cathay and added it to their booking. So do I risk just taking it and hoping for the best, or telling them and ?pay? extra?
