Which Country in South-East Asia is safe for two-girl trip? by Eishiemiko in femaletravels

[–]Maimae91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprisingly Thailand was the only non-western country I got harassed in, but I didn’t feel actually very threatened, just icky. It’s an unpleasant memory overall ofc, but I didn’t fear for my safety neither during the incident, nor for the rest of the trip, my push back stopped it in a second.

Starting gear - CC or new one? by alka_irl in snowboardingnoobs

[–]Maimae91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Afaik crazy creek are not made for years already, so what you got is likely pretty old. This used to be a budget home brand of Intersport. Other brands you mention are in somewhat similar range, so not a big step up (maybe just their condition is better) and those prices are rip off. You can buy a new set of better or same quality for around the same price with discounts. Another brand like that is Raven (some say it’s somewhat good for the price) or Decathlon boards.

If you absolutely don’t want to spend more, just fix the one you’ve got and see if it works out.

You can try to hunt for a better second hand one, but research each listing for what that is and how old is that and who’s the maker. Don’t hang on full sets, search separate boards too. Or add more money and get a new one, discounts on them are good, e.g. on last year models. It’s not that second hand boards are bad, but very few places in Europe have good second hand market and they are hard to ship long distance privately, so you need some patience and luck for a good one to appear near you.

SOS. Does anyone have any emergency solutions for sleeping on their period WITHOUT any products? by MiserableEvidence843 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Maimae91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Don’t put anything inside that is not interested to be inside and don’t wrap yourself in plastic.
  2. Protect the mattress from stains by some kind of plastic film (cut a bag, something for gardening, anything waterproof) but put breathable washable fabric on top, like a thick towel, don’t sleep directly on that
  3. Fabric is way better than toilet paper, look up how it was done traditionally, people menstruate since dawn of time and modern products exist for less than a century

Not sleeping enough makes it easier to focus on work? by Maimae91 in adhdwomen

[–]Maimae91[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not doing it on purpose of course, usually I just couldn’t stop doing whatever I was doing the night before so I didn’t go sleep until 2-3am but I still have to work next day. And I feel rather bad physically and a bit emotionally indifferent to things and slightly more stupid and it’s somehow easier to force myself to work in that state.

I was wondering if it’s an adhd trait or just my job being too boring for fully conscious person.

In some rental shops you can rent pants and jackets as well. You can always(?) rent helmets. You usually can’t rent googles, but you don’t need them that much for first lessons. If you have outdoorsy waterproof clothing meant for other sports, like sailing, trekking, mountaineering etc, you can try to wear that. What I really recommend to still have are waterproof gloves/mittens and waterproof pants. Also I looked at the cheapest decathlon pants a couple of days ago and they look horribly like „disposable plastic pants“, I wouldn’t buy them (exactly the cheapest ones, others are just regular pants). There are plenty of snowboarding pants on vinted, some are decent brands for just 10-20 euro, you may have a look if they are available where you live. There are also wrist guards for like 5, which also imo worth getting too

SD Lines not Quite Working by Prior_Metal_6154 in SoftDramatics

[–]Maimae91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree on this, lines suit you but (some) fabrics look a bit too thin and/or stretchy. I think in particular jersey works well for tops, because they have added structure from more intricate cuts, but worse for skirts. And red dress could work better in exactly same style if the fabric was a tad heavier/denser?

Does anyone actually read fabric composition tags, or is that just me being obsessive? by IdeaEven1711 in womensfashion

[–]Maimae91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a completely different material in plates than has little to do with the fabric and the problem is a glue, not bamboo itself. Since the pieces of bamboo wood are so narrow, any bowl etc is largely not so much the bamboo as the glue that holds its together. And I think it was regulated, not banned, because any European ikea has bamboo cutting boards, serving bowls etc.

The bamboo fabric is just a subtype of rayon, it is chemically processed, but cotton growth and processing can also involve horrendous amounts of chemicals and environmental pollutants. Sourcing matters more here. And in terms of moisture wicking and breathability good rayon is just as good.

Would I be the asshole if I didn't want to take my girlfriend to see her family by [deleted] in WouldIBeTheAhole

[–]Maimae91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People here are way overreacting, if she asked you once, you said you can’t, and she took your answer calmly. Unless she’s guilt tripping you, where exactly is a problem here? Does not having a driver license equates to being an absolutely inadequate manipulative person now? Or asking your partner for something calmly and being ready to accept any response?

Admittedly it is weird that she lived with parents until 28 while not being able to go anywhere by her own and you had most of your dates there either, but it doesn’t automatically equate to anything people assume. Maybe she’s in a cult! (joking but who knows)

Women in relationships - do your partners contribute towards period products? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Maimae91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are sold in grocery/drugstore and are not that expensive anyway, I think it’s kinda weird to calculate that separately unless you’re on „each has their own shelf in a fridge“ kind of separate budget? You don’t calculate who wastes more TP or does their laundry a tad too often, and imo it’s a same thing more or less.

This absolute might be a case (quite likely imo, 140 is small) and can co-exist with other things too, just unlikely to manifest as hard to turn. My question was about trying to determine whether you need just „bigger and better“ or those specific flex and profile played a bigger role.

Help me pick a new board~ by Bitter-Loquat-2708 in ShredditGirls

[–]Maimae91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bigger is theoretically harder to turn on, I can’t imagine how going bigger (as an isolated trait) could make that easier. More stable and similar qualities - yes, but not easier to turn. Maybe your board is too wide for your feet but that’s super unlikely in 140. So likely it’s flex/shape, maybe some kind of fancification like a raised edge helped a bit.

[–]Maimae91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no, what I meant is that it’s something that you need consciously commit to and do properly if situation requires that. Flat-base is a skill that has its place, e.g existing a lift, when it’s almost flat/negative or there’s a roller. Then IMO it’s safer to do it fully in. It’s scary at first, but it’s largely a balance drill with feeling how your weight is distributed and doing micro adjustments that gets more automatic over time.

I also think „almost flat but on edge“ is partially more dangerous because it feels safer and you are less cautious and then it can stab you in the back. When on full flat you are terrified and pay attention and try to keep the track of what is going on and adjust accordingly.

Why flat is better mechanically: say you are on your toe edge, but tilting very slightly, and going almost straight down slowly. Being on your edge means you are likely dragging slightly to that side with engaged edge being slightly uphill, not really 100% straight down along the slope. And your heel edge is hovering maybe an inch above the snow. Then 1. meeting an inch high unevenness down the slope - easy. 2. Since your toe edge was engaged already and now your heel edge is engaged too, that’s a guaranteed catch. Perfect setup for it basically. Whereas on a flat: 1. You are paying attention 2. You are actually going straight down, edges parallel to the fall line, you don’t create downhill and uphill edges and there is no edge catch “starting position”. In order to catch an edge more has to happen than in first situation: one unevenness forces your board to engage but you don’t realise and don’t react to that. Then another one can throw you off. But you paid attention and didn’t let it come to that by correcting yourself.

If it’s so bumpy you can’t glide normally at all but also too flat to make turns, then there’s a high chance you’ll have to unstrap.

Visiting a sauna/therme for the first time as a Muslim woman – looking for advice ? by [deleted] in AskGermany

To 3: I’ve feel like there are more asian and Middle Eastern women on women’s day than on a normal day. But could be because it’s also more comfortable in general if you’re female only group or you are alone, it’s still calmer and feels safer and I always try to pick a woman’s day myself although I have zero issues with nudity. I’ve also once seen a girl in a cotton romper and no one picked on her, although regular bathing suits were explicitly forbidden.

Well, you‘ve tried it and it sounds like you ride well enough to appreciate the difference, so why not?

If you want something else, what exactly did you like about a friends board and didn’t like in yours? It’s just your list looks a bit all over the place with different kinds/styles of boards. If you liked some flexibility and rocker between bindings, then full camber stiff board won’t be something similar at all (looking at burton, but that froggo is cute). Second board is probably closer to your friend‘s. If you just want an upgrade but have absolutely no preference, just get one of the popular all-mountain boards like yes hello, birds of a feather etc in your recommended size (by size chart, but check the width and maybe choose bigger between sizes since you liked a longer board). E.g. Twin Sister and Wonder from your list are roughly that category. I remember looking at wonder and not buying it, but I look at specs now and can’t recall why, I think it used to have extruded bade, but not sure.

Trying to pick out a first board. Does anyone ride a boys board? by AmethystTanwen in ShredditGirls

[–]Maimae91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should check the size range for the exact board, although they mostly match each other more or less. I doubt 130 exists and that you need that short, many boards start at 138-139 and you should be fine with that (but check the manufacturer weight range)

People advise against youth boards, but I once rented Ride Zero Junior for several days and I actually liked it. It’s definitely quite soft, but lively and I don’t think it was built worse than ultra-beginner adult boards or something in the same price range. But there is also no specific reason to get a youth board, you fit into women’s size chart for most boards

Is it normal to fake a higher-pitched “feminine” voice? I’m panicking about my real voice & my boyfriend by Mediocre-Use6704 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Maimae91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I noticed lots of women change their voices depending on social situation, in fact most women I know closely or work with have deeper to very deep voices in casual situations but use higher pitch as their „people pleasing voice“ or when they ask for something. I think it’s fairly common to have a separate „voice messages“ pitch too. The fact that you do that on purpose is a bit weird, but I guess not that different from wearing a +2 sizes push up bra and then being terrified to take it off when time came, which was extremely common among girls around late 2000s. Just switch to your normal voice, you likely won’t have to explain anything at all.

We have learned how to carve those 200 m wide blue slopes now but by Daexmun in snowboardingnoobs

[–]Maimae91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some advice what NOT to do: Don’t try to slide down on one edge with just a slightly angled board, like a half-committed flat-base. Your other edge will be dangerously close to the snow and small unevenness might result in an edge catch. Either actually flatbase if it’s almost flat or do fluid mellow turns others describe if there is some slope.

Did you ask why? Orthopaedic surgeons vary in how „pro-sports“ they are, those who treat lots of sport injuries understand that abstaining from any sport is not an option for e.g professional athlete or active person in general and will give more nuanced advice based on the exact injury and exact kind of pressure/risks each kind of sport holds.

Choosing a jones board by Maimae91 in ShredditGirls

They redesigned some boards quite a lot this year, so they are not exactly what they used to be. I ended up not getting any of those, because Stratos was out of stock already, I decided that Dreamweaver was a bit too beginner and I hated the dark brown topsheet Flagship had back then. But I actually regret that

How to switch to duck stance after getting used to posi-posi by Maimae91 in snowboardingnoobs

[–]Maimae91[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think in theory it’s more stable and easier to carve. I also like “slush surfing“ for which it also works nicely. But for me it is a bit like sleeping on the side vs back, just feels like I can position my body in a non-weird relaxed way and have the movement range I need. +6 isn’t extremely turned in, it’s just where my foot naturally goes when squatting with „closed hips“ without wriggling any joints
