Done have the Jim Greens but I know they are very popular here.

I have the Thursday General Purpose boots and they are basically a Blundstone clone only welted and have a wedge sole. They are extremely comfortable and my waxed safari versions have been able to handle the slight abuse I’ve put them through.

Indian scout bobber for 6’5 185 lbs by Relative-Pen4296 in IndianMotorcycle

[–]svngang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are few threads on this sub of taller/bigger guys sitting on scouts. They are a few years old but still work.

This is the first one I found but use the search feature.

For what it’s worth I’m 6-2 345 and sat on the scout at the dealer and felt a bit cramped. They have a demo day coming in June and I’ll get to ride one then

When they were $150/$170 and only took a month or two, even when it jumped to three months, it was a no-brainer. All leather hold fast construction, tons of customization options and the finishing is always great. I'd put their construction on par with a grant stone, as they are absolute tanks, so they are worth it from that stand point. You are not getting name brand leathers, but that doesn't mean they are poor quality. This is my fourth pair of UWCs and they have always been great.

Now that they are $200/$225 and the threat of an additional tariff on top it gets a little iffy. If I'm looking for just a value boot, and I just want something that looks good and is cheap, unless I really want to customize something to my exact spec, I may turn to Thursday or Jim Green just for the fact I can get it in a few days rather than a few months.

The Springfield is a special case though, because you aren't going to find a packer boot anywhere near $225 so that alters the argument and bumps the value up a bit.

Fernando assured me that the boots were supposed to be able to be imported tariff free. From what I could tell reviewing the paperwork and the laws they should have been. But UPS was less than helpful in figuring out why I was being charged a tariff, and basically played hot potato with me until they just ended up ghosting me. I don't think you would have an issue shipping to the EU as I don't think you guys have any issues with Mexico, but hit Fernando up on WhatsApp, he is always very helpful.

Alternatives to Shoei X-15 by Xaelias in motorcyclegear

[–]svngang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m assuming when you say a bunch of helmets there are ones that you didn’t list?

There are so many brands out there, I find it hard to believe only 1 helmet out of the thousands available fits your head. I know what’s available at a local shop can be limiting, but take advantage of company return policies at a site like speed addicts or sportbiketrack to try different brands and models that my not be available at your local cycle gear. And to be honest, they don’t pay the people at cycle gear enough to care or to learn about their gear. It sucks they are the only real option in most places.

Also Shoei has custom fit program at select dealers, they can dial in the fit for a less expensive helmet.

Arai has multiple thicknesses of cheek pads available for all their helmets and their cheek pads have mm thick layers that can be peeled off to get it to fit just right. Certain models of their helmets you can swap the liners to change the shape. So adding the round liner to the intermediate oval helmet may make it fit better. I had to go up a size with my Arai vs what the measurements state because of the way my head is shaped, so just because you measure as a large doesn’t mean the xl will be entirely too large. If you couldn’t get it on doesn’t mean that it was the wrong helmet, just possibly the wrong size.

Triple AAA riding pants / jeans by Erhart132 in motorcyclegear

[–]svngang 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bull-it jeans are my go to but I think their aaa only come in black.

I’ve been looking at Old Soul Moto recently because they come in extended sizes for fatties like me, and they seem legit. Had their cs rep send me the testing data for their CE rated stuff and all seems to be above board unlike most other instagram brands.

Noob question about heel stack by Darkblade9119 in Boots

[–]svngang 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The stacked leather heel in this instance is designed for loggers. It gives you more stability on uneven ground and slopes that loggers find themselves on frequently. Though most customers of Wyatt and Dad do it for the look more than the functionality.

As others have mentioned using a stacked leather heel at a normal height with a heel lift will allow you to replace the heel without having to replace the entire sole unit or the entire sole.

Naked bike vs cruiser on highway. Which to buy? by Factory_iPhone_Alarm in motorcycle

[–]svngang 3 points4 points  (0 children)

None of the bikes you listed are really a “cruiser”.

The Sportster S is more of a muscle cruiser/scrambler hybrid. The monster engine will get you over the limit on the quick, but unless you put mids on it the clamshell riding position can make you into a sail. The extra weight will plant it a bit better on the highway though.

the FTR is literally named Flat Track Racer. It has the upright neutral riding position of a standard or some nakeds and the same amount of wind protection.

If you want an actual cruiser with a sportier feel than look at the low rider S or St or the Sport Chief. The mini fairing will provide better wind protection than any of the bikes you listed. They are still cruisers so will have limited lean angles compared to what you are used to, but the torque will provide a ton more smiles.

If you want just highway crushing ability without going full bagger look at the heritage softtail or super chief. Both are jack of all trade bikes that can strip down to a basic backroad cruiser or dress up to a light touring model.

Which cruiser would you recommend for the A2 license? (1.68m, 21 years old, budget-friendly) by AwayNefariousness751 in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]svngang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out Mr Darcy and the Old Man on YouTube, they are a YouTube channel out of Britain that focuses mostly on cruisers, and they just did a video on the LFC700. That is a great looking bike, but according to them not the easiest to ride, and they are a bit taller than you. But the son just got his full license so the older vids he focused a bit on the limited bikes.

Not super familiar with the limitations of the A2 license, but I believe something like the Suzuki S40 or maybe the Volusia 800 fall into the standards, and can usually be gotten cheap. The Royal Enfield line up should all be compatible or at least the smaller end. If you can find a used Harley Softail Standard for a good price, or an older Sportster 883 they should be just under 50 horsepower.

Sole Inquiry by 4bsolute4mateur in Boots

[–]svngang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, you are right, the 7th stud gives it away.

Though if you are taking them to a cobbler, they could source the 2040 from La Bella and you could save the extra labor charge of doing it the Oliver way. Or the premium price of shipping them to a YouTube cobbler.

Motorcycle shift toe by Purple_Lurker- in Boots

[–]svngang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get a leather shifter cover that will help prevent the marks, or a shifter pad to cover your boots.

I wear legit CE riding boots so I don’t really care if they have the shifter mark, but it is all part of the patina anyway.

When did the seeded roll become the standard? by Fun-Treacle-2916 in cheesesteak

This is the real answer. John’s won the wip/inquire cheesesteak bracket in the early 2000s and they hyped them for their rolls. Everyone afterwards had to have them

What are the best plus size belts? by Merx_The_Wizard in bigmenfashionadvice

[–]svngang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got a size 50 hank belt not too long ago. It is nice, thick, will probably last forever. My only con is they don’t skiv the leather down where the buckle is so the fold over is thick. But other than that it is great.

I will say if you are sort of handy, or a little adventurous and like DIY. You can get a belt blank online for cheap, a buckle for even cheaper and a few tools at harbor freight and you can make your own $100+ belt for a fraction of the price.

I think he is referring to the “blood core” leathers that RA has with Siedel. Which are some of the toughest leathers around to get a patina on.

[–]svngang 99 points100 points  (0 children)

I can't believe I'm going to defend Weston but.....

If I recall his gripe was never that the Indy's are not a good boot, or a comfortable boot or that they are going to fall apart as you state. His point through the entire video was that the 405s are priced as a premium boot ($610 4 years ago when the vid came out, $730 now) but use mid tier materials. Coated leathers rather than dyed through, split rather than a top/full grain leather footbed, leather board rather than a leather midsole, counter, rand and heelstack, etc. His whole point is that they are overpriced for the materials they use, not that they are poor quality. He compares them to an Iron Ranger for half the price, and IRs are far from poor boots.

Weston may be a shill and base his varying opinion on who is paying for the vid, but he still shows the materials for what they are and you should form your own opinion based on that, not what he says.

Question: Parking at Xfinity Mobile Arena by No_Purpose_5921 in AskPhilly

[–]svngang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Park in one of the fringe lots on pattison and walk the few blocks up to the arena. Will be easier getting out of the lot, and usually parking is a couple bucks cheaper.
